Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

I'm going to speculate a bit, just for fun.

So far, every game in the same Generation has taken place at roughly the same time in the Pokémon games' timeline (with the exception of Gen 5, but BW2 were always meant to be sequels and still remain to this day an unprecedented move).

This means that in every generation that got a remake...:

Gen 3 -- Ruby and Sapphire take place at the same time as FireRed and LeafGreen;
Gen 4 -- Diamond/Pearl/Platinum take place at the same time as HeartGold and SoulSilver (HeartGold/SoulSilver take place 3 years after FireRed and LeafGreen).

If they were to keep the trend, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire would take place at the same time as X and Y.

But, we know X and Y take place after Black and White, which take place after HeartGold and SoulSilver, which take place after Ruby and Sapphire.

So, if ORAS are direct RS remakes, they can't happen close to the events of X and Y.

But are they direct remakes?

Let's look at the press release:

_________
BELLEVUE, WA — May 7, 2014 — The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo announced today that Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire will launch worldwide in November 2014, exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Pokémon fans will collect, battle, and trade Pokémon in a new adventure.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are a fresh take on Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, which launched in 2003 and were fan-favorite hits on the Game Boy Advance system. The new titles promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world.

And, if they follow the trend set in Generations 3 and 4...

This could mean that it's completely possible that ORAS still happen in the year X and Y take place in, and they're more of an alternative take on Ruby and Sapphire -- set in the future with different protagonists.

tl;dr: There's a chance these new games are a new Hoenn adventure instead of direct remakes of Ruby and Sapphire.

They're probably just remakes anyway, lol

Maybe they can incorporate the rocket in mossdeep city now.

Like there could be an event where you can take it up to PokeMoon to catch deoxys or jirachi

Holy shit!

I... I'll have to buy a 3DS now, just like I said I would if a remake was announced a couple of weeks ago.

Damn it hahaha!

I'll get Omega Ruby again.

Even though we all knew these were coming, this still somehow caught me by surprise. I think I might go for Ruby this time around, FUCKING HYPED!

YEAH AND THEN BUILD SOME SECRET BASES AND GO DIVING AND HNNGNHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHHGHGHHHHHHHH

PLEASE HAVE FULL 3D GAME FREAK PLEASE. Best region deserves no less!

Box art says the same thing about 3D mode as X/Y said. Hopefully that's not final and they do enable 3D throughout the whole game without framerate problems

It seemed like they wouldn't do a remake of these games. There were a lot of parallels to RS in XY including Pokemon locations and encounter areas. I guess in the end its easy money so why not. Unless they reboot the encounters this game is going to initially disappoint a majority of players all over again. Most people would be rushing to get to the post game to get to the other Pokemon.

Was also reminded of how shitty the rivals were in this game. I am praying they fix this.

This could have been a mega reveal at E3, Nintendo don't give a fuck this year confirmed.

Anyway, it isn't ALPHA if there isn't a hard mode. Don't fuck this up Gamefreak.

Based trumpets. Can't wait for that remixed Team Magma/Aqua battle themes.

Hopefully they fixed the slowdown issues from X/Y like when Platinum fixed the issues in the previous titles.

Ok so pokemon Y and now this.

Thanks nintendo, now I HAVE TO buy a 3ds.

welp, there goes my savings...

Buy the almost gaurateed new console+Pokemon bundle and pick up a used copy of Y, you'll be able to save some on that.

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are such stupid names. Oh well, either way, this is pretty exciting to hear about! 3rd gen was the only set of games I never got to play. Will be nice to finally get to experience them in some form.

The team aqua and magma logos actually looks like stylized versions of the alpha and omega symbols so it's actually pretty neat. Especially combined with how they have highlighted the symbols on the mascots.

Crossposting from the community thread:
Interestingly, the Japanese logos for the games have the Omega and Alpha symbols in the same place where the Mega symbol went on the X and Y logo. These same symbols can be seen on Groudon and Kyogre's arms, respectively.

Omega and Alpha Evolution confirmed?

Called it in my first comment without having seen the logos yet!

I think Mega Evolutions are still in, but this time rather than using X and Y for "differences", they're using Omega and Alpha

I smell Blaziken Alpha and Blaziken Omega

Yeah, I am pretty sure they're just remakes. I can't imagine the Pokemon Company bothering to rewrite new dialogue for the game when the point of a remake for them is supposed to be a fairly low-cost fanservice.

I would be completely down for a new story. However, I really want to see the opening scene in the moving truck with the Machokes carrying around boxes running on XY's engine.

Um... unless they want to throw compatibility with X/Y out the window, there shouldn't be any new Mega Evolutions, right?

The only new Mega Evolutions will probably be Latios and Latias... since we know those exist since the game was hacked.

We already have a bunch of Megas from Gen III anyway.

Groudon and Kyogre are getting new forms though, I guess. Don't know exactly how that works in the compatibility sense either.

I still can't believe this is happening.

Hoenn. With 6th gen additions.

Physical and special split

Gen 4+ evolutions

My god, this is the best thing ever

Maybe they can patch the game now so this isn't an issue

Pokemon Emerald had one of best commercials ever loved the music. Or was that XD Gale of Darkness?

Nah, the best Pokemon commercial was definitely the Ruby and Sapphire commercial. Great music, and I loved seeing people with Pokemon that looked like them.

We need mega evolutions for Treecko and Mudkips' lines. That way every starter has a mega.

Also, Gamefreak had better add more Pokemon to the routes. I love the diversity in X and Y and I want to see that diversity stay. Fill those oceans with Frillish, Mantine, Alomomola, Goldeen, Tynamo, etc.

So what is the official timeline of the Pokemon?

I've waited like 10 years to play one of the Hoenn games, and I still don't know who to use in my team :lol.
Everyone knew it was coming though, but it's great to have some confirmation.

Probably and hopefully patch it.

Or do what Platinum did with all the new Rotom forms and etc, they couldn't be used in Wi-Fi.

Yeah, like I mentioned earlier Gen 3 has a metric ton of stuff that it screwed up. If they pull a FrLg and restrict you to only the pokemon that were in the original games, it's going to upset a lot of people. And, like you said, it'd just force people to burn through the league challenge just so they can gain access to their favorites.

I have to second you on that bit about the rival situation in Gen 3. Complete ass. They should either make both full fledged rivals with multiple encounters like Bianca and Cheren, or focus on one of them.

Looking at this thread makes me feel like I'm the only one who doesn't like the mega evolution. They're cool but I dislike the temporary aspect of it. Note that I'm not an competitive player.

Nope I'm in the same boat, probably because you didn't really need such strong mons in the X/Y game because it was piss easy.

And I'm also no competive pvp player.

So what is the official timeline of the Pokemon?

All we know is:

FireRed/LeafGreen/Emerald ---3 years---> Platinum/HeartGold/SoulSilver ---? years---> Black/White ---2 years---> Black2/White2 ---? years---> X/Y

Red/Blue/Yellow are superseded by FireRed/LeafGreen
Gold/Silver/Crystal are superseded by HeartGold/SoulSilver
Ruby/Sapphire are superseded by Emerald
Diamond/Pearl are superseded by Platinum

So what's next? The Red and Blue remakes are almost as old as Ruby and Sapphire them selves. Are we gonna get a FireRed and LeafGreen remake or a Diamond and Pearl remake first?

IIRC it was something like

RBG/RSE -> GSC

And I don't know the rest lol. Well, BW -> BW2.
RBGFrLg/RSE->GSCHgSs/DPP>BW->BW2->XY

Pokemon World Tournament in BW2 should be treated as a case of sprite reuse, because otherwise nobody aged from HgSs and DPP.

Don't ask me about Colosseum or Ranger. :-P

EDIT: And someone else said it better before me.
