Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

I can't believe people actually want a remake of a remake :/ really? Kanto has had its time, it's time to let go. Not to mention it also appears in HG/SS too.

What we really need is a vc release with some special treatment (trading and battling enabled).

I'm interested if they'll make this set after the events of the originals, or just say "screw it" to the almost fan made timeline and have them be straight remakes.

We'll finally be able to see if they actually care about the timeline or not.

Have such fond memories of playing Ruby and Sapphire back more than a decade ago, how time flies. If these remakes are as good as HG/SS, we're in for a treat.

I got Sapphire on GBA. I think I'll go Ruby this time.

I'll have to go back to Pokebank and see if I can get my collection on there. getting Pokemon in from the DS games was such a pain that I only did a couple of batches.

How many eight-year olds post on NeoGAF? Seems like a strange question to ask.

IDK, how old are you?

I really didn't think this question was so hard to parse. No one here is eight years old. No one here is a kid. Everyone here is an adult (or at least beyond the age one might associate with the pre-teen Pokemon demographic) and clearly people aren't creating gifs because they're excited Nintendo is releasing games that children will play. People who were both alive and old enough to remember these games being released are buying the remakes.

This is fine, but some of you should bear this reaction in mind before you post about how the industry is in trouble because companies never make anything new or innovative. This isn't Nintendo resting on its laurels with Skyward Sword. This is the least innovative and most iterative series in the industry trotting out its third remake in just a few years. This is also software that is compatible with the modern series and could have easily been re-released on Virtual Console. The only reason Nintendo and Game Freak are making this instead of something else is because you are going to buy this.

This announcement thrilled me. We all knew it was coming, but now it's just more exciting. Pokemon Sapphire was my first Pokemon game and I stopped after Leaf Green, but I had tons of fun. I'm very tempted to buy a 3DS just for this game. Especially since it looks like it's a remake + more.

They're just as deserving as Hoenn is; based on the best-selling games in the series and the same obsolescent hardware stands in the way of easy transferring. Hoenn already had its time, Johto already had its time before HGSS, bringing things back to capitalized on people's nostalgia is the essence of why remakes happen for the most part, it doesn't suddenly disappear once they get remakes, especially when those remakes are already themselves nearly a decade old.

My god, I hope they don't fuck up the soundtrack. If they remove the trumpets I will flip a table.
Either they put in brass samples the match the punchiness of the originals or they go with studio-recorded music. I will not accept that pink slime I've heard since Gen IV for my trumpets!

Maybe contests will be more interactive.
I hope they're both more complex and less luck-of-the-draw than before. DPPt simplified Contests to the point that Pokéathlon seemed rightly superior. Being able to coach your Pokes from the sidelines during a Contest, in addition to planning out their turn, could help add interactivity and repeatable strategy to the events, which is important if anyone wishes to play Contests competitively (to think of it as alternative battle system, basically).

Thank you. I named my Pokémon music thread after this, since it's pretty funny and relevant to conversation.

I think this may also explain why Go Ichinose wasn't involved with X/Y. He's got to do his best work some justice for the new generation.

I hope I'm right, I love his music.
Ichinose's been the lead musician for each of the remakes, so there's precedent for him to be involved with this project already. On top of this, it's his best soundtrack and the first of two mainline titles he led; now that his pet project Soriti Horse is done (funny how his first design credit for Bushi Seiryuuden is actually legit now), he should be putting out amazing arrangements of the original soundtrack.

I grew up with RSE, but I'm willing to admit it has flaws. There's not enough Pokémon variety out on the sea routes, two of the water towns are underutilized (Dewford and Pacifidlog, though the latter has options for redemption, like a better Mirage Island), Pokémon design quality's all over the place, you name it. One thing that should either be fixed or taken out is this game's rival, who's got a pathetic team up to the last battle with him/her. Maybe they could emphasize Wally's story arc a lot more, or Brendan/May could be surprisingly good at matching many common late-game teams, but there needs to be no half-heartedness like in the originals. More interaction with Birch would also help, as would Steven as champion. The Elite 4 for Hoenn's lacking, though only Sidney should be scrapped for simply being...generic as hell; Drake alone is one of the coolest trainers in the main lore, so he should be the penultimate fighter around which the group gravitates.

Secret Bases need StreetPass options, more specific restrictions on where they can be built in the overworld (can build anywhere, though), and a lot more item content and the ability to leave messages for players. My hope is that, with enough complexity, amateur gym leagues will become a thing, in addition to the legitimization of Contests. Being able to create secret underground bases with Dive and Secret Power would be fucking awesome, since StreetPass would pick the base up and drop it into another player's world for them to discover and explore. If the water half of the region isn't being downsized and/or modified to integrate more landmass, then Dive needs to be expanded upon a good deal; if we don't want to use HMs if they can be avoided, then diving at least needs to be worthwhile for more than the occasional loot and unique monster encounter(s). Speaking of movement, how 'bout them bikes? An integrated Mach-Acro Bike that takes skill with the analog pad to use would be really cool, since it could move both according to the map grid for max traction or the player could freestyle their way up to secret areas in routes. More advanced exploration in the routes would expand on the variety of awesome, memorable routes present in the originals.

I feel the same way. Guys we have been to kanto since 98. Isnt it time we said goodbye?

wait have they even confirmed these are gonna be in hoenn

they keep mentioning a new world

which i'm taking as a different region

#ORRECONFIRMED

Well, they don't have as drastic design changes as existing Mega Evolutions; for example, their silhouettes are identical to their original designs, while every other Mega Evolution has a drastically different silhouette.

My (out there) theory is that OR/AS aren't direct remakes of R/S. So far, the games in each generation have taken place at the same time (barring the explicit sequels B2/W2), with the chronology R/B/Y = R/S/E = FR/LG -> G/S/C = D/P/Pt = HG/SS -> B/W -> B2/W2 -> X/Y.

If OR/AS follow this trend and take place after Ruby/Sapphire, it might be the case that the Groudon/Kyogre in OR/AS aren't the same Groudon/Kyogre that were in the originals.

This is all most likely rubbish, but the new Groudon/Kyogre designs don't necessarily have to be Mega Evolutions.

I also wouldn't say that Venusaur and Absol's silhouettes are drastically different. Ampharos's is pretty different but the change is still small.

Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby

Sapphire - Kyogre
Ruby - Groudon
Alpha - Arceus
Omega - Giratina

Hoenn AND Sinnoh confirmed!
maybe the second region is Sinnoh after you beat the game ?

The only reason Nintendo and Game Freak are making this instead of something else is because you are going to buy this.

Basically, though, the *only* reason companies ever do anything is because they hope you are going to buy stuff from them. I'm not exactly sure what your point is?

I honestly am sick of the remakes (played this game already) and remake of a remake?.. What?

But to be honest x and y were so good that if it is done in the same vein as x and y, I may bite.

Guys why do let speculations run rampant especially to be so woefully wrong everytime? These are remakes. Remakes. These guys come every ten years or so. Stop bringing up bw2 as a precendent. Those games were just a different kind of sequel. These are remakes.

I gotta say a love it when an awesome game is made even more awesome. No complaints for me. Let ninty announce galaxy or Metroid Prime in HD. Hell. Let ea announced an hd edition of nba street 1.

Ruby/Sapphire where so long ago. I haven't played them in at least 9 years, Emerald more recently but not the originals.

This is by far the strangest announcement for a flagship pokemon game I've ever seen. No Nintendo Direct, no E3, no screenshots or information, just a trailer with boxart.

Weird.

The best thing about this game is going to be the soundtrack. Finally, these tracks will no longer be ruined by the trumpets.

I just learned about this through some random shit on my FB, even though this was announced before I woke up.

Like what the fuck am I doing

That said, Day 1 of course.

Ruby and Sapphire came out 11 years ago (12 in Japan). So now is a good time to be doing some remakes for them.

I hope we still get lots of brass while adding in some new types of instrumentation.

No shit. Do you have anything useful to say?

Alpha Sapphire will be mine! I remember my Mom getting me and my twin this when I was 9. My 9 year old self played the heck out of this! It's my favorite Pokemon game! : D I had Sapphire and my twin has Ruby. I played Blue and Crystal before, but didn't really "get it". I remember being at the mall with my Dad, eating Sbarro's pizza and I didn't touch my food at ALL because my Mom told my Dad to go to the car for a surprise, grab the game and let me play it. Haha.
I still have the Kyorge Coin that came with Pokemon Sapphire. Been waiting for this remake. : D
