To be fair, Nintendo has really never been "games only."
Gaming is still their main focus, but they have had side businesses since they started.
 
According to Google Translate the Mario Kart 8 smartphone app is actually scheduled for the game's launch… not sure why David Gibson mentioned the fiscal year

I wonder if X really will release this year outside of Japan. I would jump for joy if it has a late year release in NA/EU. :)

I still do not understand why they are keeping the name a secret, though.. I mean, for what purpose? Makes no sense unless they really are still undecided, lol.

For Nintendo as a company and their mission statement, current staff and creative pipeline? Yes. Haven't you been reading the thread?

The company would have to have some big layoffs and organizational changes before anything else shifts drastically, I say that all the time. Untill that happens why do people expect anything else?
 
Iwata - need something special for emerging markets to reach mass market, not about localising existing products which have higher price
for emerging markets $30-60 game prices are difficult. Need something new but won't be this fiscal year, studying China changes

They wanted to be realistic that's the correct statement. They decided to go for a low forecast number this year and every other Wii U console that exceeds that number thanks to MK8 and Smash would be a win. Like, finally! Either way... was an Ok meeting, I'm looking forward to see how those figurines will work and on wich games so yeah, everything would come into place at E3. 1 month to go...


...and 3 weeks for Mario Kart 8. Yay!

Because it is called Xenogears 2 or Xenosaga 4 obviously.

While I agree that you shouldn't really blame the consumer, I don't think Nintendo could have done anything to make that game sell. It's so god damned niche. It doesn't even appeal to most Nintendo fans. Maybe it would have been better off with Nintendo characters. :/

Oh I definitely am! I just don't know why they didn't reveal the name back when they first showed off the game. Well, maybe not the initial teaser trailer, but it's been a while since then. The only thing I can think of is they really hadn't decided on a name yet (besides Xeno____).

Yep. But i rather have them trying some new businesses as a safety net for gaming (Iwata) and still remain independend than going 3rd party and lose control over everything.

If its coming to Japan this year no reason for it to not come to the West this year, only other game we know of are Smash, Hyrule Warriors, Bayo 2, and the NFC game, the game is being localized with development
 
Watch Iwata have a higher approval rating than last year. Meeting was basically "we are gonna try to get some profit, expand into new markets, and wait out the generation till we can launch our new hardware platform and hopefully use some of the things we tried out and were successful to enhance our next generation of consoles." You know similar to how Sony tried PS Move and PS+ for the PS3, but only PS+ ended up working so they stuck with it.

Honestly I'm just waiting for John Harker to post his analysis on the meeting.
 
Based on the comments today I take it we will get a second wave of software for current gen from studios like Retro and EAD Tokyo, can't wait.

The PS4 is barely "powerful enough" and is going to treat VR as a peripheral. This way, Sony can continue to make the AAA games they like, and then make smaller artsy dedicated games to VR.

Nintendo has a tendency to fully committing to their "gimmick" of the generation, so I can't see them designing a console around VR, that's what I was getting at with my comment. They'd have to completely change up the way they approach games, since it wouldn't be powerful enough to create a new Smash/Kart that looks as good as the WiiU versions.

Depends how long the localization takes if it makes it this year outside of Japan, but if it really is being localized while developed, that's cool. I wish more games did that.
 
NFC is starting to really blow up and honestly isn't a bad decision at this point. Lots of people are seeing VR stuff as the "next big thing" but Skylanders has proven that NFC is here right now to be the next big thing.

I had expected them to have NFC figures out by now honestly, but it's better late than never I suppose. I'm interested to see what they'll use them for. Save states? Unlocking things in other games?

It'd be cool if for instance, you had a Kirby figure, and you could use it to download a free copy of Kirby's Adventure to your Wii U or 3DS, and then use it in multiple games to unlock Kirby as a character.

What does EA have to do with this? They aren't obligated to save Nintendo's ass, nor are they at fault for the Wii U's failure

Because Nintendo isn't to blame in this. Right. Because corporations DESERVE to have people purchase their product regardless of whether they are interested in said product. Because Nintendo created a piece of hardware that was SOOOO marketable. Right.

Until the Yamauchi Era Staff is dead. Nintendo will languish. The fact even now Iwata still quotes and praises Yamauchis strategies years after they were proven disasters just shows how out of touch the structure is at Nintendo

If X and Bayo 2 are coming out this year I think I might grab a refurb if that even exists when their store comes back online. I think I would enjoy enough games on the system to justify the purchase now. Plus I am sick of fighting with Nintendo fans.

To this day I am strongly suspicious that Wii U was originally intended to be Pachter's fabled Wii HD and it was meant to have come out sooner. It was intended to merely compete with the final years of the PS360 and offer and upgrade path to Wii owners rather than what happened. (They got abandoned.)

But Nintendo realized too late Things Are Hard. The whole thing spiraled out of control as they struggled to expand and build a new facility at the same time they had to save the 3DS and launch a new home console.
