Sunset Overdrive Gameplay Footage [Up: Official Trailer released!]

After watching the full video I am impressed.

A shooter at it's core, just blow shit up, and shoot hordes of enemies.

The presentation is great, and a perfect match for the Gameplay. I really hope they don't fuck this up, with some boring ass story or dumb quests.

It's kind of a third person open world Bullestorm, what else can you ask?

First game that really makes me want an Xbone, and while it's too early to know if it's actually going to be any good, they seem to be focus on the right direction; and they could make great things with a good multiplayer design here.

Lastly I am also intrigued about the technical side of this, the trailer looks great in 1080p, and some of the bull shots are fantastic:

But, how is the final game going to look and run on the xbone? I just don't see 1080p@60fps possible with this quality on that machine, so it's going to be interesting to see the game running on the real world.

Unlikely it is going to be 1080p or 60FPS. As for bullshots, there is aliasing present and some dithering on shadows in some of the grabs so I'd say they're definitely plausible.

From the title always assumed this was a racing game. Just saw the trailer and am incredibly impressed. I really don't want to buy an Xbone, but if exclusives like this, Dead Rising and Titanfall keep piling up I guess I'm going to have to.

Man it looks fuckingtastic, it looks exactly like an Insomniac Games game, so damn fun. Which makes me wonder what the fuck happened with Fuse and how much EA had to do with that mess of a product.

What a great looking game. Can't wait to see a demo at Microsoft's E3 press conference.

It's good to know that this won't get focus group'd to death like Overstrike did.

speculation time.

Talk to me about the advantages of developing on the Xbox One.

This is a big game. There’s a giant city. There’s a lot to explore. We’re pushing things further visually than on any of our games previously, so you need powerful hardware for that. That’s the obvious answer. And I know a lot of Xbox One owners out there will tell you it’s a powerful machine. There are other aspects of it that I can’t get into right now, but we can talk about them at a later date that would be beneficial for us as a developer.

What if he is talking about AR glasses support - it would be falling in line with the footage missing any HUD and the rumored Sunset Overdrive Bundle. (which might include those glasses)

Quite honestly. In some ways. The best looking next gen game yet. It looks stunning.

Doubt that. It was addressed earlier in this or the other thread, but Microsoft gave Insomniac an award for the worst HUD ever and they are in the process of redesigning it, which is why it isn't in the vids so far.

I don't get why people are so hyped about this. Nothing in the trailer made it stand out and honestly it looks kind of boring. I need to see more of it but that didn't do much for me.

I think it more that it is scratching the Crackdown itch more than anything else, at least that is what it is doing for me. I'm not that hyped by the gameplay though as to be honest it does seem a bit so so depending on what the actual combat mechanics are when it comes to story missions and such.

But it has a nice style to it and unique gameplay elements I think visually it is very nice but from the technical standpoint it seems a little flat but that is how open world games are :D

Looking forward to seeing more, it isn't something I'll be playing anytime soon myself though due to not having an Xbox One but it does look like something worth picking up when the I get an Xbox One (probably in a year or two once there are more games out to justify owning two next gen consoles).

Motion blur perhaps and it has a very cohesive visual style. IQ, AA, lighting and level of detail are more impressive in Infamous though, as are character models and effects I would say. Bah, I am doing both a disservice though, they are great looking games.

And there is the Order I suppose. On a micro scale it looks quite a bit more impressive than either.

One thing I like about Insomniac, is that they are pretty open and interact with the community well.

I don't get why people are not insanely hyped about this. Everything in the trailer made it stand out and honestly it looks like a guaranteed GotY. I don't need to see more of it, that caused me to have to change my underwear.

Calm down now. It's just a game.

The game looks fun but it's really sad for me to see just how slow the freestyle movement seemed to look, why put gust of wind behind the character if he's so god damned slow?

I've read in one interview, that there won't be any Kinect integration. I don't know if this was only in terms on controlling the player or a general statement.
The only thing I see working with Kinect in this game is character creation. Something like Kinect Sports Rivals .

Thanks for the info.

What? Really? Do you have a link to this? I'm curious now, lol.

I think I figured out what was bothering me about the wall run. In nearly every other game with wall-run (Prince of Persia, Titan Fall, Mirrors Edge etc) the player goes upward and then descends downward in an arc formation.

In Sunset Overdrive, the player is awkwardly locked in and just continues to run at the same elevation. It looks rather stiff/rigid because of this. The speed of everything in the parkour also seems rather slow, it doesn't seem to capture the feeling of the initial CGI trailer.

for a game focused on movement and momentum, it does seem pretty slow. i'd imagie that this is because you are expected to do most of your gaming (shooting and platforming) while doing the parkour stuff. if it were much faster aiming would certainly be far more difficult.

of course i havent had any hands on with the title, but yeah, even still i'd like to see the speed turned up a bit.

@jstevenson the guy that did the weapons for the first Resistance isn't working on this, is he? He wouldn't respond to me when I asked yesterday on Twitter, which makes me think something's up. :P

Looks good.

I liked Resistance 1 and Ratchet and Clank (TOD) on PS3.

I'm getting that vibe with this game.

Wonder if it's 60 fps?

Concept seemed better in my head than in the trailer. Also I was not a fan of the narrator.

However, I am still very interested in this game.

I'll be interested to see what is shown at E3.

i love the small details easily missed from thiese videos. things like that random npc bolting by with the OD'd scrambling after. or later, some survivors battling it out with OD in the city beneath the grinding player. i cant wait to see how the different factions are incorporated too. i think "lifeless" will be a silly way to describe this (even more so than it is now) when we've seen more

So this could happen right?

September: Sunset Overdrive
October: Forza Horizon 2
November: Quantum Break and Halo 2 Anniversary
