I much prefer the Fizzie cover edition.

Hey, @insomniacgames @ilovedust. I improved your boxart in like 5 seconds. Thank me later. No, actually, thank me now

The trailer is even more impressive upon repeated viewings. Gameplay just looks so damn good. Love the fluidity during the various transitions.

Cannot wait to finally get my sweaty mitts on this. I know it's unlikely, but I'd love a demo during E3...

Would be amazing if it was part of a resurrected Bringing it Home.

I've watched it about 4 or 5 times now. Also been showing it to as many people as I can.
So far everyone loves it. I really think it's the art style and use of colour.

Apologies if this has been posted, didn't want to create a thread about it.

Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive is "for now, another sub-1080p game", EDGE magazine reports.

Speaking on the benefits of working on a single format, Insomniac creative director Marcus Smith told the magazine: "When we worked with Sony, that made it easier, because we were focussed on that hardware. With Sunset Overdrive, it's the same thing. It makes it easier for us to focus on the one thing and tap the hardware in a way that we probably couldn't if we were crossplatform."

EDGE then interjects to state that, "for now", the game is another Xbox One title running in sub-1080p.

Insomniac president and CEO Ted Price played down the importance of hitting 1080p.

"We're still working on optimising and we're going to continue to do that," he told EDGE. "We can get into all the technical stuff later. This is going to be a [question] for every game that comes out. People will be counting pixels. For us, it's about the vision: you saw it, you played it. It's about creating a world."

Additional comments from Smith sought to assure that the Xbox One is a good platform to develop on.

"I'll say it's not a difficult system to work on," Smith said. "We're coming from Sony platforms during the last gen! For us to focus on Xbox One has been great, because the guys can really dig into the hardware, and working with our partners [we'll] continue to optimise so we can get more onscreen."

Meh, a few more pixels doesn't add any enjoyment to my games. However this is going to get blown out of proportion as per normal.
There must be something wrong with my eyes, but most of the time I don't really notice it when playing unless I deliberately start looking for it. A stable framerate is more important to me than reaching 1080p.

Having both would be nice though but only if the creators vision doesn't suffer from it.

Pretty much.

If you're looking for visual problems you'll find them in every game, this whole counting pixels thing is pointless. Unless the visual issues actually make playing the game worse then I have no issues with it.

Rough translation (im portuguese not spanish) of the more important parts:

Sunset Overdrive joins the club of games that dont run at 60fps. We visited Insomniac Games Studio that confirmed that the game will run at 30fps but will display in HD at 1080p.

Our trip to LA allowed us to test Sunset Overdrive and to bring an overview and the first impressions of the game. We have spoken with Marcus Smith and Drew Murray, creative directors of the game, and they confirmed that the title will not run at 60fps but at 30fps, meanwhile they reported that the players will enjoy the game in HD at 1080p.

Developers at insomanic reported that was really hard to maintain 60fps with everything that happens on screen, so they decided to have a steady 30fps. In outr time playing the game we didnt noticed any kind of lag or framerate drops
its a shame that 60 fps arent a standart for Next Gen games.

The gameplay looks heavily inspired by Infamous, but is not as dynamic and somehow a lot more SFX shy. I'm not sure if Overdrive is the right word for it, I would say "Normaldrive" would fit it a lot more.

Given the conflicting reports and the fact that if its not native 1080p it's probably going to be up-scaled to 1080p which could be what they mean I'm just going to wait and see what the final, clear and definitive position is.

I'd hope for a rock solid 30fps / 900p minimum and watching the trailers 30fps/1080p doesn't seem too much of an ask but I think waiting is going to be for the best here. Anything to do with resolution turns into a minefield of squabbling it seems and its worse when its based on assumptions and/or possible incorrect info.

As an X1 owner I'm happy with locked 30fps and 900p.

Sure anything better than that would be amazing but I've learnt to adjust my expectations based on the hardware.

Luckily I am too blind or ignorant to really see much of a difference.

But what happened to Edge saying it was sub-1080p? I'd trust them over this website, but if I'm wrong please let me know.

The gameplay looks heavily inspired by Infamous, but is not as dynamic and somehow a lot more SFX shy. I'm not sure if Overdrive is the right word for it, I would say "Normaldrive" would fit it a lot more.

"heavily inspired by Infamous" Surely you mean Tony Hawk and JSR.

The game looks like amazingly fun. Probably the only thing I didn't like from the trailer was the white stream that comes from the back the character when he grinds things. I think they should just get rid of that.

I'm a big fan of the Infamous series (bought a PS4 for SS), but I thought the exact opposite. The gameplay looks more dynamic than in Second Son, just not as flashy.

I am really a little disappointed at how little Sucker Punch used the improved hardware to make the gameplay more dynamic. There is very little that couldn't be done on the PS3, apart from graphics and loading times. Even things like grinding are missing and the climbing mechanics worked worse than in Infamous 2. With the way the new powers work to almost automatically travel through the city (except with fire), those things really reduced the parcours aspect of the series. But maybe that's just me.

I was really impressed by the first gameplay video of Sunset Overdrive. More dynamic gameplay was exactly what I hoped for in current gen games.

From the other thread.
I dunno, we had grinding in Ratchet games, we had a wrench slam in Ratchet games. I don't feel like anyone can say we ripped those off from anyone else when we've been using them for a decade plus.

The denim is a denim jacket but you can wear whatever you want.

I know we didn't show the hero using a chain (I'm not even sure we have a chain melee weapon).

And honestly, the over the shoulder shooting is the LAST thing you should do while playing the game (and when did over the shoulder shooting in a third person shooter become any sort of "ripoff"?). We keep debating about taking it out (or locking it at the beginning so players don't try to use it all the time.

we're very different than infamous.

Edge says that the game is currently running sub-1080p while the other sites says that it'll display in 1080p. Displaying in 1080p could indicate upscaling instead of native. It's most likely going to be sub-1080p.

Seriously? Did you see the amps section? There were literally fireballs shooting out of his shoes.

I mean, I'll give up a few pixels if that means the game will run at a LOCKED 30 FPS. I hope it's true what they said about no drops. I'm still going to be getting this game no matter what, though. 900p I can live with. Frame rate drops? As cheesy as this sounds, it would ruin my immersion. Since everyone is comparing this to Second Son, how is the frame rate in that? I know it's 30 FPS, but I haven't heard much about the game besides it being gorgeous.

Please just let this game be good.

The colours! I hope this changes the artistic trend when it comes to AAA games.

Very nice gameplay reveal, lots of fun stuff, though I wasn't expecting the game to be so Infamous-like.

The mutant enemies are the worst part... come on, they couldn't think anything better than mutant/zombie infection?

What would you suggest besides mutants? I think it's a good fit for the theme they're going for.

Well it offers them the option for a lot of variety in enemy types without resorting to different types of human enemies or something silly like aliens. It think the mutants fits the theme very well. They also look bloody awesome.

Infamous' frame rate holds up pretty well, roughly 30fps~40fps all around with a few dips to the lower twenties and spikes upwards of 40fps.

Yeah I see nothing wrong with a locked 30, especially in an open-world game.

I remember reading an article about Infamous about what would be lost if they went up to 60fps and the Sucker Punch guy said resolution. I just don't think it's fair to expect 60/1080 on these types of open world games, especially this early in the console's lifecycle.

Overflowing with style. I like. I'm legitiamtely sad is an xbone exclusive.
Should provide an entertaining watchthough on youtube

Maybe I should've said "traversal" not gameplay overall, but that rail grinding and wall running looks sooooo slooooow, also car roof jumps lack the ooomph and the zip-lines felt kinda slow as well. I dunno, maybe I am biased, but I don't see what's so dynamic about that gameplay - traversal looks times less fun and fast than in Infamous.
