When you mention respawning in style as one of the main selling points of your game in your gameplay debut video, that means your game has little substance,

did crackdown come out before infamous? i think this looks more like dead rising/crackdown than infamous.

Yes

Crackdown 2007
inFamous 2009

And Jet Set Radio, Tony Hawk, Dead Rising, and Ratchet & Clank came out years earlier.

I said it before, any comparisons to inFamous just sheds light on the game experience of the person making the comment. Let them stay in their bubble.

When I saw the video I thought about infamous as well. It's mainly how the character looks when he's grinding vs how ratchet looks. Also when hopping a bit. It's a lanky character in a open world that can grind wires like the Cole Infamous games. Not Infamous SS, that did away with riding the lightning in the wires.

I actually looked up Infamous Wire Grind gif and got Sunset Overdrive gif.

if it was not for the halo 3 beta code i would of never got enjoy that amazing game. surprised no one says infamous is a crackdown wannabe.

Well, Infamous was quite obviously inspired by Crackdown's unexpected success, and Crackdown was in turn inspired by games like Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Insomniac is undoubtedly aware of all those games and many others, and they informed Sunset Overdrive's design, but calling it an Infamous clone or anything like that is extremely stupid.

Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Halo 2 Annivesary. Glad I have XB1 this year. :D

Without trying to be a buzzkill, im really not sure QB is this year... the early reveals made me think it would be but at this point would it even be a good idea to release 2 third person shooters (even if they're different) in a short space of time?

I think it'll be Q1 2015, and its loss to that line-up will be supplemented by downloadable games, i'd guess unless they have another game in the line-up at retail

Whole lot of Infamous talk in here. Where are these comparisons even coming from? I see third person and open world as the only similarities... maybe some traversal but that's not from Second Son.

Guess it's inevitable with it being the start of the generation, though.

As far as resolution goes I'd agree with the 900p guess right now. In all honesty I'd lock that down as the resolution and optimize other areas/framerate, but that's just me. 900p just seems to be the sweet spot for the console.

Cole wasn't the first video game character to grind on wires. I get that he did it (almost a decade after JSR) but I also think it's a really narrow comparison, where much more of SO seemingly draws from other games. The art, tone, abilities, enemies, combat are much closer other games.

The only reason you got that GIF is because of the text associated with it on the page, where the author is drawing the comparison. I understand inFamous is fresher in people's minds.

We all have different game experience. I won't deny a smidge of inFamous from anyone, but there's seemingly so much more of SO from many other games that pre-date inFamous by years.

Well, Sunset Overdrive in September, Forza Horizon in October, Halo in November, and Quantum Break in December would work for me.

That also works for me.

I said it reminded me of infamous, not that it was the only game to do it before SO. I even mentioned that Ratchet grinded, I know Ratchet did it, but maybe the fact that the character is human, skinny, and maybe because he grinds on his feet hunches over a bit like a speed skater and does a bit of a similar looking hop off the wire reminded me of Infamous at first sight. I didn't say the whole video had me thinking Infamous either.

I also played JSRF. I don't think any of the grind tricks are in the video for me to be reminded of JSR though, it has similar color, but no JSR music playing, wacky costumes, or cel shaded to hit really remind me of JSR. JSR looks blocky too, and the roller blades are obvious especially speeding on flat surface instead of walking.

Also is it that much of a sin to say infamouse in the same sentence as SO? I also said Dead Rising with SO when the pictures and video came out.

I see the character shoots with no crosshair. Is there no crosshair for the trailer or it will be like that in game Maybe auto aim?

Main hud is off on the videos. It was bad and Insominiac will redesign.

edit: I read somewhere that will be some kind of "help" when shooting while grinding.

This is one of those games that makes me regret not picking up an Xbone. I hope they release a special color when the game launches.

I also hope that this takes longer than a day to beat unlike Infamous

yeah when I think rail/wire grinding I go to JSR instead. Not Future, but more JSR's pacing on how it handled rail grinding.

Notice how in the loop Beat is building momentum, yet he's starting off really slow (about more or less the same pace as the rail grinding shown in SO.)

Didn't Insomniac games mention that they'd NEVER make another 60 fps game again?

I doubt SO is going to be 60 fps.

Also with this releasing in September close to Destiny, isn't it being sent out to die? Really would work better as a mid-late October game, or even August.

So what exactly is allowing the character to grind along wires anyway? He shouldn't be able to grind for that long. You can't argue gravity because he's seen to be grinding up wires that are occasionally going upwards.

I kind of bought it in inFAMOUS because I thought an electric charge was pushing/pulling him along.

Insomniac isn't going to open that can of worms, and they shouldn't.

I dunno. I don't think, realistically, that anybody who's excited by the game is going to be turned off by learning it's 720p. And if they get it out of the way now, they avoid accusations that they're hiding it, or covering it up, or whatever. It gets the rancour out of the way now and lets them hype the game without that black cloud hanging over it.

Skillz, duh. You know this isn't a realistic game, right?

Considering it'll likely be 30fps, I can't imagine why on earth it would be near 720p. 900p is likely the final resolution for a game like this.

Maybe he got a tip how to do it from those orange mutants, is that a realistic enough scenario for you to believe in?

Also, in Infamous that electric charge should have:
Repelled him;
attracted him so he couldn't pull free and then burned him to a crisp;
something something magnets;
charged his phone so he could call Zeke to help him down

The game isn't realistic, it don't want you to think about realism, that takes the fun out of what is possible. "Don't ask why, just do." - Ploid 3.0 (yes copyright)

'Fall 2014'.

sick skills bruh

Would be nice if the game had a crazy taxi like mode where you play against the clock, rely on memorization of the city and need lots of skill to survive - dreamcast like. Would be awesome.

720p, 900p, whichever. 900p does seem more likely yes but there have been some pretty puzzling resolution choices on Xbone so far (792p? 886p?).

I think your reasoning for the first part of you argument (which I agree with) can be applied to the second part of your argument as well. I don't think anyone who cares about the game will be upset by a lack of forthrightness on Insomniac's part, and I don't think there's really a risk of a black cloud.

If it's not a multiplatform game then there just isn't any reason to talk seriously about resolution. If it looks good, it looks good.

Sure, it'll be used as more fodder for general "xbox is weak" arguments, but the people engaged in those discussions are unlikely to matter much as far as the success of this game is concerned.

Where are you getting September?

The problem is not who is excited about the game. If they say the game is sub-1080p it will attract a lot of negative articles all over the internet. Every thread on gaf about the game will start with a "sub-1080p" comment lol.

I'm not sure, but looks like the resolution comment only appears on the edge online article, not in the magazine. Looks like a click-bait attempt.
