Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

the "play matches for X hours" requirement was actually retained for Brawl, just not tied to a character in the same way that it was for Mewtwo. If you're going to talk about learning a lesson, did Uprising have any ludicrous unlock requirements?

There are a few dumb unlocks in Uprising. The finish X boss while in crisis mode ones are tough. Then you have to speed run a few levels, particularly the finish Chapter 24 in 11 minutes one.

So, I know that I'm probably the only person who was masochistic enough to unlock R.O.B. through the "collect 250 unique trophies" route, which took me THREE WEEKS of daily play, but I definitely have to disagree there. Heck, according to

Keeping X hours of Brawls as an option for unlocking stuff is a lot different from it being a requirement.

It's still stupid yeah, but you had a lot of avenues for unlocking characters this time around that didn't force you to play a lot of Super Sudden Death or leave the system on overnight if you wanted everything quickly.

I unlocked all of the Brawl characters through VS matches instead of the SSE like I think most did, and it still only took around a week. How / why did you do the trophy method without meeting one of the other requirements?

This was back when I had a habit of deleting all my saved data for a game just so that I could unlock everything again, and I wanted to try something that I hadn't done before. "It seemed like a good idea at the time", as they say.

As for how, I really had to go out of my way to meet it without triggering one of the other methods. You need just under 50% of the game's total trophies to get R.O.B., but a significant proportion of them can't be obtained until SSE is completed. The only reliable way to get new trophies was to play through SSE from the beginning until the stage right before R.O.B. appears, and then start again so that the orange boxes would reappear. Meanwhile, a significant portion of the game's content and challenges were hidden out of reach. It was tedious even for somebody who likes the mode!

All in all, I guess this particular requirement wasn't playtested at all, or - and this is probably more likely - Sakurai specifically wanted players to see the storyline of the Ancient Minister play out in its entirety before they got to control R.O.B.

I personally wish all the characters were unlocked from the get go. I get the appeal of unlocking stuff, but I've had too many situations where we don't have all the characters unlocked happen. I'd be satisfied with all characters available from the start, with stages and such being hidden.

I'm curious what they're going to do with the Wii U version. Is it worth having secret characters when we've had the exact same roster for half a year?

Screw you wimps, I want even more absurd character unlock conditions.

  • Play 1000 hours of Vs. Mode.
  • K.O. 500 enemies in Cruel Smash.
  • Beat Target Test Mode on Intense with every character in under 10 seconds.
  • Complete Classic & All-Star Mode on Intense with one stock in under 5 minutes each with every character.
  • Punch Satoru Iwata in the face IRL.

Only after doing all of that will you have finally unlocked
Jigglypuff
.

I'm fine with this as long as the only starter characters are the Wii Fit Trainers.

After playing Mario Golf all week I hope Miis have alt costumes that resembles other fighters in the game. (if they are in the game of course)

I still think there shouldn't be any Miis in Smash, but Mario Golf World Tour actually implements them in a way I like. The amount of content for them to collect is crazy.

Guys just wanted to pop and say the wife and I just learned today we have another child on the way!
That's awesome! Congratulations man! Have you picked out a name yet?
Name it Metroid, so it can crawl.

I'm working on that issues, and I'm considering to set up password for the chatroom so I will put password in email link so people can quote me and get the password.
Do it. Seriously. So many lurkers popped out of nowhere last Smash Direct... Mibbit needs to be able to survive when GAF crashes, not the other way around.

Wrong. You have to do all of that WITH Jigglypuff to unlock everyone else.

Also, welcome to all the new Juniors! Hopefully your stay is long, and not cut smashed short with Bish or EmCee's Golden Hammer.
It's not squeaky.

Most important thing to prevent yourself from getting banned is to avoid the ad hominem. I see way too many juniors banned from calling someone an idiot or telling them to fuck off. Don't attack the poster if you are angry, attack the points they make. I've gotten away with quoting a dumb post and saying "that's fucking dumb", but I'd be gone in a second if I went with "you're fucking dumb" instead. Same meaning, but one gets you banned ;)

Also, admitting to downloading ROMs/using emulators. Come on son. See this shit way too often.

BTW Juniors: I recommend reading this post if you plan on making it out of E3 season alive.

haha this gif is great, just need to replace 2011 with 2014

clearly not, otherwise the entire Dolphin thread would be banned ;)

I'd feel like a dick if I forgot to congratulate you, so congratulations!

It's more admitting to piracy that's a problem. Using an emulator isn't piracy, and therefor isn't illegal. Downloading ROMs for games you don't own, however, is.

I think it's more of admitting to downloading roms and providing details on how to obtain roms. Everyone in that thread is supposed to rip their own game. Of course not everyone does that but who in that thread would admit to piracy? lol

Back in the day, a few gaffers were banned for helping someone setup GGPO.

Dobut we're see many if any bannings. GAF is a very mature place and posters post with etiquence and thoughtfness.

You almost had me :p

I gotta say, I really do love how strict they are about just being courteous. It reminds me of Miiverse which, despite having a few crazy posters, is really pleasant. Can't think of any other forums that aren't just a collection of people typing slurs to each other in all caps.

Look into your hearts for you all know it's true. No console wars crazyness that plague other forms on the internet. Here, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft fans coexist in perfect harmony with each other without one group belittling the other. On GAF, We can see that the wii u truely is a precious gift from above that must be cherished for a long time to cone.

I know the odds are beyond small, but I'd be stoked if Nintendo announced a head-set for Wii U for the release of that game.

Of course, being Nintendo, they'll just use it as an excuse to advertise the mic in the gamepad (which nobody will use to play Smash...).

I don't know, there's something strangely appealing about to me. I never post on there, but I feel like the atmosphere is way more positive than any other console's community. And some of the messages that pop up in Nintendoland/Super Mario 3D World really crack me up.

Congrats on the baby news, just had my first a month ago! Super exciting!

Lttp: just picked up kid Icarus uprising and fire emblem awakening for my 2ds I just got for my birthday! Thanks for the suggestions I received from everyone, only played through the first couple of chapters of KI:U so far but I'm really enjoying it so far! Love the banter between Palutena and Pit and will be hopping on the Palutena bandwagon finally!

Let's talk (again) about what songs we want in the game!

Lately I've had the Golden Sun Battle Theme stuck in my head. I think a touched up version of this song would be fantastic on a Fire Emblem stage.

I guess I'll list some of my most wanted songs.

Mario:
Gusty Garden - This one is pretty much guaranteed to be on the Mario Galaxy stage.

Mario 64 Bowser Theme - I hope this makes it into the game untouched. I don't want it redone/remixed, but in its original, dirty quality.

Pokemon:
Team Rocket Hideout - I'd love this one to get remade into something either very heavily electronic or orchestral...can't decide which.

Pokemon X/Y Legendary Pokemon Theme - Keep this one as it is. I think it would work amazingly well in Smash.

Zelda:
Twilight Princess Medley from the Zelda Symphony CD - This one is probably a bit unrealistic, but man if it isn't one of my favorite pieces of video game related music ever.

Donkey Kong:
Scorch N' Torch - Now that I think about it, have we seen a Donkey Kong stage besides the one from Melee?

Big Top Bop - Only because it's the closest thing to F-Zero style music to come from Nintendo in a long time, even if it is a bit cheesy.

Animal Crossing:
New Leaf's 1AM theme - File this one under the "it's funny because it doesn't really fit in with the 'fighting' theme" category. Brawl had a few songs like that (one on an Animal Crossing course, no less), but none as beautiful as this.

Sonic:
Chemical Plant Zone - Nothing really needs to be said here. This song's omission from Brawl always baffled me.

Let's talk (again) about what songs we want in the game!
Oh man, I could go on for days about songs I want included, but off the top of my head:

Mario
Fight Against An Armored Boss - My avatar outs me as a Mario RPG fanatic, but this more about getting more Yoko Shimomura music in the game.

Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door Final Boss - Would love a Paper Mario stage and this music would be amazing.

Melty Monster Galaxy - This one may need a remix to make it a little more upbeat, but this could be epic on a lava level. Speaking of which, how has there not been a Bowser's Castle Stage?

Donkey Kong
Grassland Groove - I was really disappointed with the DK stages in Brawl, so hopefully we got some good new ones. This music and the stage it comes from would be amazing!

Krook's March - Man, a modern remix of this would be so cool. And a DK castle stage would also be a nice break from only doing jungle settings.

Legend of Zelda
Ganon Battle (Link to the Past) - Always loved this fight. Also, maybe with A Link Between Worlds we could have some Dark World/Lorule love in the form of a stage.

Molgera - I know the song was in Brawl, but I would love a new arrangement. Check out the cover in the link to see how amazing this could be.

Kirby
C-R-O-W-N-E-D - Love how badass final boss music in Kirby gets.

Pokemon
Elite Four Vs. (X/Y) - I assume we'll be getting this in the Wii U version, as we already have the Elite Four chambers as a stage.

Fire Emblem
Mastermind - I mean, I basically want the whole Fire Emblem Awakening soundtrack. It's crazy that's a soundtrack for a handheld game.

Yoshi
Big Boss - Can you imagine this with an electric guitar heavy remix? Too epic.

I have like a million other songs I want, so I may have to make another post about this down the road.
