Does the city have peds walking & driving about?

the trailer shows a npc run right by the player with OD chasing him as well as other survivors fighting off OD with guns. havent seen any driving about though - i doubt it though, unless its a scripted sequence.

Considering this is a city or town on lockdown after the huge disaster that was the launch party for that energy drink, I don't expect to see too much "regular business" going on with pedestrians and such. I mean, there may be a few normal people still around, but I expect we'll be seeing more of the type of people that fit the description of the main character, or are even crazier.

How so? I thought this game had a lot of personality and style. I dare say among the most to embrace their own style really.

I'm not saying it dosnt have style or personality, it just dosnt blend into something that feels unique. In all honesty I feel like it's an in-between of Gotham City Imposters and Borderlands. Rubs me like Brink as well too...

I will say I enjoy my games more abstract than realistic, so I'm not exactly part of a larger audience.

Hopefully more deep mechanics as the launch closes. I love the style though, the multiplayer could be amazing if done right.

It could be great and probably will be, but right now I just see inFamous + (insert zombie game) with more emphasis on parqour.

So, you just picked the first thread you saw for a newly announced/revealed game to shitpost in?

That's how much the idea of an openly gay protagonist scares you, huh?

If it helps, you can create precisely that in Sunset Overdrive. There is no gender discrimination on the possible ways to customize your character, so if someone suddenly feels the urge to give their male character a mini-skirt similar to the one that girl on the box art is wearing and then go grinding across the city, they can do that. :)

Speaking of the city, I assume the entire location we saw in the recent media is just one location or island? Because I thought I saw it mentioned somewhere that Fizzie is just the boss for this first island.

Wouldn't be surprised.

From the boss gif you can get a decent look at the outskirts, it seems pretty damn big. Hope we can reach the mountains back there for some cool wall running parkour.

You mean wall walking parkour, because after Infamous that sure looks damn slow.

All your posts in this thread are about comparing Infamous to SO which is something I personally don't understand given how different each game's sandbox elements are, what are you trying to demostrate?

"I don't care about Game X for your system, because my console already has Game Y, and it's better because this and that."

We can now add Gotham City Imposters and Borderlands( also Brink) to the growing list of random games SO is being compared to.

There's the crazy weapons also.

Honestly, there's any number of games this game can accurately be compared to one way or the other, but this game collectively is doing something quite different. It's focus is elsewhere compared to, say, something like Dead Rising 3.

Sure, you can draw all kinds of comparisons there. Same for Infamous and a number of other games. And this is mostly why I was interested in knowing as to whether this game had a real story and/or personality that would be put on display for gamers to enjoy, and why I was happy to hear that the main character had specific story dialogue and interacted verbally with other characters, especially in cutscenes. I thought that lack of personality is what killed or hurt Crackdown for me. And I feel if you make a world that is designed this way, then you owe it to the game to go all out in selling us on the overall vision. That's why I'm happy to hear the comic style lettering for things such as boom or headshot will be implemented in the actual game. It all helps with the game's immersion.

If it didn't have that bit of personality then there would be nothing stopping it from just being labeled a generic mashup of games, whether that claim was fair or not.

I notice that the vehicles don't seem to take damage or explode when chaos is happening around them. I hope that's different in the final product.

LoL beyond all the comparisons and this game vs. this game or whatever I have to say it made me chuckle out loud at work to read someone say "hey now... that there grinding isn't very realistic now is it??! Whats up with that!!" While in the very scene of the trailer he's talking about there are Energy Drink Super Zombies being fried by an electric chain lightning shotgun. Likely powered by awesome and caffeine.

Too funny.

Said it earlier tho - if they tune this bad boy a lil and the movement gets frantic fast - like..if you stay on your parkour game consistently after something like 20 seconds you are fucking FLYING across the map... this game could be something special. Co-Op is bound to be a gas. I'll be watching the Lets Plays of this thing for days.

I notice that the vehicles don't seem to take damage or explode when chaos is happening around them. I hope that's different in the final product.

The vehicles are weapons, Brah!! I imagine that they can take a decent amount of damage so they remain useful beyond 1 or 2 uses but eventually break down and splode in fantabulous fashion.

The game will be 1080p (doesn't mention if native or upscaled) and 30fps. They played it and the framerate seems stable. They also mention that wiith all the stuff they plan to put 60fps would be too difficult so prefer to aim solid 30fps.

They will publish an interview in their next printed number of the magazine, and you'll be able to get this energy drink in E3, San Diego Comic-con, Gamescom and Pax Prime Seattle.

Lol at people wondering just "why" he can grind so long or trampoline on cars. I wish the Internet was around in the 80's. We would have some golden era threads.

"How can a plumber break bricks with his head, without a hardhat, that isn't realistic."

"You really expect me to believe a little dude name Mac that stands all of 5'6" and weighs 150lbs soaking wet could defeat Mike Tyson? Gimme a break!"

"Oh, so a tank can shoot bullets that bounce off multiple walls. Since when could that happen, what are they shooting rubber balls? And how could rubber balls destroy another tank with one hit?"

This game looks really fun. I would love to see more of how the online works with multiple people playing at once. This is probably the first game that really makes me want an Xbox One.

People making so much conclusions based in a single video...

IGN preview talk a little bit about the main story/side quests

Sunset's quest system seems like your typical open world fare. As in, say, Grand Theft Auto V, you'll have a main thread to bring you through the story, and plenty of extraneous stuff to keep you busy on the periphery. The part of the story I played through had me climb a radio tower, fighting tons of OD'd and, ultimately, a gigantic, floating FizzCo mascot. As I battled the giant blue balloon, it talked endless amounts of trash, and I really enjoyed how I had to focus not only on gunplay here, but on grinding and jumping around to ensure my safety from its devastating attacks.

Side quests, on the other hand, were triggered by going to certain parts of the city while looking for skull icons on the map. Once activated, they’d unlock various kinds of missions. One had me using my melee weapon to smash television sets in an alleyway. Another had me delivering bombs to various parts of the city, with an ever-moving time limit keeping me on my toes. And a final quest had me collect five comic books from mutated humans for a nerdy, shut-in collector that refused to go get them himself.

So it's basically another Dead Rising, but with more shiny colors teddy bears?

No Thanks

1. If that's all you think it adds you weren't paying attention.
2. DR3 had teddy bear weapons so I'm sure you don't know much about that game either.
3. eh who am I kidding, you had your mind made up when you entered this thread....
I might pick one up for 100 bucks at a flea market some 9 years from now.

Ps4 is where I'll be doing my gaming this gen.

The AK-Fuckyouup is the best name for a weapon, bless your heart insomniac

Reading more on the Style meter makes it sound more Devil May Cry ( D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS!) in terms of ranking, considering how the game's pushing you to do more 'stylish' stuff.

Gotta say, I'm worried the most about the mission system. It's early, sure, but most open world games tend to have unsatisfying side-quests marred with collectibles scattered around the map. Now, I don't mind collectibles if theyre done right, like say Crackdown , and Insomniac does collectibles pretty well considering how unobtrusive it is to get Titanium Bolts in Ratchet. Curious to see how map and mission design will mix. I always say a good open world game is only ruined by it's shitty side-content. (Assassin's Creed, Saints Row IV, GTA4/5

This game will most likely have a lot of awesome Skill Points (Insomniac's superior achievement/trophy system). Rewards for getting skill points should make doing the task worth it and release dopamine into your brain.

lol. Probably wouldn't buy it even at $100.. :P

I mean, Dead Rising doesn't have any platforming anywhere close to the degree shown in Sunset Overdrive, and neither did it have such a major focus placed on grinding throughout levels to get a tactical advantage on enemies, and it also didn't have any wall running at all. Traversal in Dead rising and SO automatically makes them two very different styles of games.

They have similarities, but anyone can see how obviously different these two games are. Already in the footage released, the normal enemies are way more aggressive than typical zombies in Dead Rising 3 were. Just the fodder enemies are doing the kinds of aggressive charging that you saw from the amped up football playing zombies in DR3, but they're also jumping and climbing very high places to complicate things for the player in ways that further differentiates it from DR3. The enemy types also seem to be quite a bit more plentiful in SO based on what's been teased already. And just on design alone, they likely also bring their own unique challenges to the battlefield. There's also the fact that gaining style points by making effective use of skilled traversal, which in itself seems like a game on its own, even has a direct effect on the gameplay by strengthening abilities and weapons? I believe I read that somewhere.

But, really, each time you see these kinds of false equivalence dismissals on Xbox One titles, you get the feeling the game must be doing something right. It's "Titanfall is simply COD with mechs" all over again. At one point Ryse was even called a God of War ripoff, despite the fact the two games couldn't be any further apart.

I'll just say this game would draw me more in if it was designed by the guys at Arcane Kids rather than it's current state, but I can also say that what I just said is entirely opinion based.

I wonder if mods check out guys like that for shill status.

they don't but I wish they did. so much trolling in xbox threads.

if people feel like they have to troll to vindicate their console choice, maybe they should spend some time and reflect. it might be time to consider buying the other console or selling the one they have.

Footage looked really fucking awesome! This game seems perfect for some crazy ass 4 player co-op, open world shenanigans. Please make it so, Insomniac!!!

I wonder what the soundtrack is going to be like? |Personally I hope they let me listen to my own music and I will put a mixture of JSR and Crazy Taxi on it.

Looks cool, no system seller though. Looks like WiiU visuals. Poor mans I:SS.

Heh, seriously? "Wii U visuals" due to the game actually having color?

"Poor man's Infamous Second Son" just because it's an open world game that's different from Infamous Second Son?
