It's a shame that Strootman is injured for and will miss the World Cup. If he were fit the Netherlands would have a much better chance of reaching the latter stages.

To be honest, I think that his injury made Van Gaal look for a formation that fits this team better. 3-5-2 or 4-2-3-1 would be better for these players.

I'm supporting S. Korea. It would be nice to see an Asian team win, and the Japanese/Korean WC was the first I actually watched.

Closer to home though, the Dutch or Germany.

USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA

GREATEST AT EVERY SPORT EVER

WE THE PEOPLE

To be honest: Would be the greatest thing for the sport.

If football would get the recognition and sponsoring any of the other major sports in the US get, it would benefit the entire football industry.

True. But he's also your best midfielder. The system may suit the players better but you'd want your best players in it too.

* Well, no country has won the the competition twice in a row since 1962, and Spain won it last time so I don't think they'll win it this time. Tiki taka is dead.

* Germany has reached the semis twice and the final these last 3 times, and they went on to win the bronze the times they went to the semis, so I think it's their year this year. They haven't won since 1990, and they've got a solid team with no apparent weaknesses.

* Argentine has such a bad defence, so I think that will be their downfall in the end.

* Brazil has a weak squad, but they do have the home advantage. Still, their lack of depth is going to cost them in the end.

* France hasn't really performed well these last few years, so I don't see them taking it.

* The Netherlands will be a strong contender this year, having reached the Final last time. I think they'll go far.

* Italy's a solid defensive team, but lacks the offensive edge.

Germany wins the World Cup.

All I'm hoping for is an exciting tournament. The last WC I thoroughly enjoyed was US'94.

Expecting Spain to win..imho Germany has missed their window. I wouldn't be that surprised if they fail to advance from the group stage. Brazil looked pretty capable the last time I saw them play but the pressure will be immense

Rooting for England and whoever plays the most enjoyable brand of football.

lol

-No solid fullback (if Lahm plays in the defensive midfield, and since our coach is Jogi Löw I expect it to happen)
-No solid striker
-No solid defensive midfielder
-Every center back in the squad is able to perform between world class and "Oh my god what has gotten into him", no consistency
-Can be said about Neuer also at times
-No consistency with players like Podolski, Schweinsteiger and Özil, crucial players who are probably going to be in the starting 11 (we are talking about Löw, Reus/Götze will play as 9)

This man knows what's up. I mean sure, Germany always rises to the occasion but the quality simply isn't there (anymore). That said all the other teams have their problems as well. Spain isn't that great anymore either but I fear it still might be enough.

I agree. We have the best team, but with the Bundesjogi we'll never win a title.

I want Lucien Favre for Bundestrainer
because Klopp needs to stay in Dortmund for all eternity!

Klopp as the Bundestrainer would be my dream. Favre would be good too, we got Hitzfeld so you can have Favre.

The english media and tabloids because they will sell a ton of papers on trashing another poor England performance as they wonder why their "world class" players arent actually world class at all.

England is the NY Knicks of football

I actually think the England squad will have a lot of talent in it. The only weak link is our boy Woy.

My money is on Spain/Brazil

Probably Spain. Completely dominating European football. That said, Brazil will obviously do well in its home country. Argentina and Uruguay are outsiders for me.

As a Dutchman, I hope Van Gaal finds a line-up that will be hard to beat. Hoping for Depay to make a splash.

As has been said, a lot of it is going to come down to which teams handle the heat and humidity, I doubt it will be any of the European teams. My obvious choice is Argentina, they have a bit more of a bite and grit to them than Brazil. Outside shout, Senegal, I think the African teams will do pretty well.

I'm following the prediction of whatever zoo animal is nominated as God of Football.

That's also true. Although I'm not really a Strootman-fan, he's probably still the only midfielder that could stand a chance against Spain and Chile.

Being Italian I want say Italy though my expectations are more in line with them either making the last 8 or the semi's.

So more realistically it will likely be either Brazil (Though I really don't want them to) Argentina (They got to win at some point...right?) or Holland (Provided they can hold their own against Spain)

Winning the whole thing is going to be between Germany, Spain, Brazil and Argentina I think.
france netherlands final

ribery vs robben

can't wait

france is not the same without henry and zidane

the biggest problem is that there is no solid striker. we have klose who is a legend but he is also not the youngest anymore
I think the L/C/R defensive to defensive middlefield options should be pretty good.
it's not going to be a south american team, that's for sure. brazil, argentina, uruguay, they're all going to get schooled hard the moment they play germany, italy, spain or any other major european team. just like last world cup, when 3 of the 4 quarters were europe vs. south america. we all know how it ends.

confederations cup is a mickey mouse tournament so you can't base anything on that.

dont forget that a european team never won a worldcup in south america due to climate reasons

Brazil seems to be the safest choice. Also, if a European team wins it'd be the first time they do so on the American continent.
