Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Sakurai doesn't want skinning characters as costumes though, it seems.
Sakurai never said that. His only quote about costumes is that one where he talks about it not being the customization that he was talking about, because it'd hurt the characters' uniqueness.

Some people initially took that to mean no alternate costumes at all, rather than just denying customization, and now this about denying other characters as costumes is an even bigger leap and completely out of context with the original quote.

I hope Pikachu gets a Pichu alt.

It's not possible due to their different proportions and sizes.

Man these Ridley gifs are consistently funny!

Has anyone seen the big meme that's taken over Smash Miiverse? Bigley? It was a crudely drawn Ridley first posted some time ago and it's just all over the place. The English speaking side has been storming the Japanese side with Bigley posts. I haven't figured of the Japanese Miiverse users get the joke or not.

Even though supporters and detractors alike are making fun of the Ridley Too Big thing, all these Miiverse posts are doing is supporting Ridley for future installments. Or even now...

this is RidleyGAF? sweet, Alien was a great movie

Thanks guys!

Welcome. Love the username. May paper mario be in with a great gonzales alt costume!

Paper Mario is one of those never-gonna-happen-but-would-be-cool characters. They could do a lot of stuff with badge moves and his paper-folding from TTYD. General Guy would be a nifty Assist Trophy, too.

I'd want him for his hammer based attacks alone. Paper airplane up-b. Could use some sticker-star move as his final smash.
Tons of creative stuff could be done for him. If link has 2 links, mario can have 2 marios.
Luigi doesn't count.

60FPS for Wii U; 60FPS for 3DS but assist trophies/pokeball pokemons would be 30FPS.

You think EVERYTHING will be 60fps on Wii U? So far we've only seen youtube footage, so it's all been 30fps. Any indication that there are less frames on pokeballs/assist trophies?

Considering Sakurai only specified that the 30fps stuff was part of the 3DS version, I feel like it's a safe bet the Wii U will be 60fps through and through.

Can youtube even play 60fps? I think I heard that it compresses the stuff automatically below that or something

Youtube is 30fps, which is why I was asking. So far, I don't believe we've actually seen smash run at 60fps with our own eyes.

If you film at 60fps, you can upload to youtube at half speed, then using html5 you can play it back at double speed, and it's 60fps. Nintendomination did this for bayonetta. I hope someone does it this E3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP21RW0MiSM

Hey everyone - I've been lurking here on the hype train since the April Direct, so it's cool to be an official member of RidleyGAF!

Welcome to DenialGAF!
*still thinks he'll be in*

Eagerly awaiting for wireframe Ridley, RagnarokX don't disappoint me!

...and so, no disappointment was felt that day.

The $200 Wii U Skylanders Bundle is back on ebay, and, between that and the fact that BillMeLater is offering me 6 months no payments/no interest for signing up, I'm actually considering getting it. What should I do? Jump on it now? Wait to see if there's a price drop at E3? Wait for the inevitable Smash bundle? Or do the smart thing and get a PS4 instead?

Personally I'm waiting for E3 to end to decide when and which WiiU bundle to get. I hope prices won't skyrocket for some reason.

Well, I would like to correct myself since I just watched UK's Smash Direct again. Sakurai specifically said that some of poke balls and assist trophies (for 3DS version) would be 30fps; not all.

He didn't elaborate anything for Wii U; so that would led me to believe that they would be at 60fps. I could be wrong tho.

I doubt we'll see price drops this year, especially with nintendo's forecast of 3ish million sold this fiscal year. If anything, we'll just see bundles. 200 aint bad, you can probably sell the skylanders stuff on ebay or something. It definitely won't be cheaper than that outside of a similar deal.

I'm not calling you out or anything! I totally agree. Just wondering what your opinion was. I, too, think everything will be 60fps on wii u.

I know you are not calling me out. I want to take a step backward and correct myself since I thought he said all poke balls pokemon and assist trophies are at 30fps but I noticed that he said SOME.

I'm pretty sure that everything would be at 60fps; like they did with Melee and Brawl. Despite the facts that the frames got dropped during battles depend on situations that would forced the drops.

Hopefully the Wii U is powerful enough that we don't get frame drops this time around. Then again, smash 4 is looking gorgeous, so who knows.

This chart is pretty interesting -- it organizes the potential roster by year of debut. There are very few gaps.

The Chorus Kids, Shulk, Chrom, and Greninja start to make more sense when you consider that Sakurai probably wanted to include some more recent characters. There's not exactly a lot to pick from.

Bomberman is missing on this list at 1983.

R.I.P , never even had a chance to be in Smash :(

Updated my size chart to include all new characters,
obviously some of them might be a bit smaller/bigger than they actually are as I'm
basing the sizes off of cross-referencing characters; but the general size should be
as shown. (maybe they're slightly bigger or slightly smaller, which would swap some chars around)

Miyamoto wins, retools the game into Super Smash Bros. Sticker Star.

Miyamoto Flips the Table!

Never noticed just how many of the characters aren't standing straight up. Bent knees everywhere.

Hey, it could be worse.
I could win, scrap everything and just release Super Smash Bros. Melee: Online Edition instead. This is assuming I get invited.

BTW: Do we have any idea about who is being invited for the Invitational? Are they gonna bring in competitive players, or is it just going to be Nintendo employees and/or gaming press?

Very cool!

Rosalina in this picture reminds me of something I've been wondering: Have we had any indication of what the different colored lumas mean? Is it just random when she summons one?

Where is that Chrom image from?

Little Mac debuted in 1984.

Little Mac debuted in 1984.
Little Mac's defining characteristic is his size -- hence "Little" Mac -- but that handicap didn't exist prior to the NES version. The player character had to be shrunken down on the NES for technical reasons. The arcade boxer was regularly sized, and nobody at Nintendo has ever referred to that character as Little Mac. Granted, I would consider Little Mac the spiritual successor/evolution of the arcade boxer, but there isn't any proof that they're the same person.

I'll take Sakurai including Wire-Frame Mac as a sign that he at least considers them the same character.
