Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Are Peach and Daisy the same character? A color scheme homage doesn't necessarily mean anything.

It's not a color scheme homage, it's a whole new skin. Also, re-read Sakurai's comment from today's image:

Here's wire frame Little Mac--re-envisioned from the original Punch-Out!! game.

The wording of that implies that the wire-frame character from the original game is Little Mac.

All alternate colors are "skins." Wireframe Mac uses the exact same model as regular Mac -- only the textures are altered, just like every other alternate color scheme in the game. Peach's Daisy alt in Melee actually had model differences, but they're obviously not the same character.

Then why hasn't Sakurai higlighted any of the other alt color schemes for any of the other characters? The fact that he's singled this one out in particular implies it's meant to be a full-fledged alt skin with it's own set of alt colors and everything, just like Classic Wario and Male WFT.

Here's wire frame Little Mac--re-envisioned from the original Punch-Out!! game. The man that actually drew the pixel art wire frame in the original was none other than Shigeru Miyamoto. He said he drew the pixels for the wire frame on graph paper.

I always found those information fascinating

I don't know, I'm not Sakurai. There's no use in trying to predict him. The wireframe mesh looks cool and is unlike any of the other alternate colors, so there's that.

I really doubt that. WarioWare Wario and classic Wario have completely different models/costumes, and their select screen portraits utilize different poses. We've seen wireframe Mac's portrait, and it's the same as his regular one. And again, both versions of Mac have the exact same character models. All signs point to the wireframe being a regular alternate color scheme. I want you to save/bookmark this post and come back to it after the game's been released.

I'd love it if the game came out before my weeklong trip to England, personally.

(I still need to figure out how I intend to charge my 3DS XL while there, though. The NTSC charger can't take 220V, so I'll need to find a USB charger or something that can...)

That date would be nice, but it's the last weekday of the month. Yes, Nintendo games release on Fridays a lot but I wouldn't get my hopes up. I'm optimistic for a few weeks earlier.

Little Mac's defining characteristic is his size -- hence "Little" Mac -- but that handicap didn't exist prior to the NES version. The player character had to be shrunken down on the NES for technical reasons. The arcade boxer was regularly sized, and nobody at Nintendo has ever referred to that character as Little Mac. Granted, I would consider Little Mac the spiritual successor/evolution of the arcade boxer, but there isn't any proof that they're the same person.
The Little Mac from Super Punch-Out!! is not particularly short either, yet he is also Little Mac, isn't he?

I'm pretty sure the EU charger has the same output, so just import one of those.

I believe Nintendo of America calls the Super Punch-Out!! character Little Mac, but he doesn't officially have a name in Japan. He's only referred to as "protagonist" over there, and the creator's intent means more to me than the whims of a localization team. The NES and Wii games are the only ones where the main character is explicitly and concretely Little Mac.

Like the setup, but shouldn't the FD-version of Gerudo Valley still have the Zelda icon?
There has been no shot of the 3DS version of FD at all so I used the Gerudo Valley version of FD as a placeholder image.

The Smashbros-Miiverse fansite is doing the same thing as well, so yea.

How many stages do you think each version will have? We know that the stage selection on each will be different, but will each version have the same number of stages? Might the 3DS have to cut back on retro stages to accommodate all the new ones?

That said, I'm really happy to see Jungle Japes back. I'm still holding out for Green Greens and Great Bay to come back on 3DS.

Same here, I love Jungle Japes. Almost all of my friends loathe that stage tho ;_;

Looks great! =] How many more stages do you guys expect for the 3ds version? I'm pretty happy with the number so far, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few more stages, especially more retro stages

Would love Great Bay to come back. There is nothing more satisfying than throwing someone beneath the main platform and spiking them downward.

As for the amount of stages, Brawl had around 20 revealed before it was released and the 3DS version seems to be revealing stages at a pace that should show that many before the end of summer, so...maybe around the same as Brawl? I know it's pointless to search for patterns with Sakurai involved.

Hmmmm, fact that it's both not the last day of a month (common placeholder date) AND a friday, which is when Nintendo releases their games normally, makes this somewhat credible to me

Possible, this is around about the time I guessed it would be coming out when they mentioned summer, although expected a bit earlier but guess if you wanna do a summer release its best to do it near the end of the school holidays rather than the start (is it, i can never really remember expect that middle of summer is another wasteland time sinces everyone is on holiday away from things)

If nothing else would prefer earlier so i can take it on holiday with me :p

So far, the two Classic stages show technically are both from Brawl. Jungle Japes originated in Melee, but it was in Brawl too after all. We still haven't seen a stage cut from Brawl actually brought back. Considering how this game's development started by porting Brawl, I wonder if we'll see any of those stages left out of Brawl...

A lot of people I know hate it, too. I think it's because of the river and the Klaptraps. The reason I love it is the platforms are set up perfectly for chucking items around.

Good point. I hope they wouldn't limit themselves to just Melee stages that were also in Brawl - that seems like a totally arbitrary line to draw - but if they did, I guess that would be fine. Brawl had a lot of great retro stages. Green Greens could still come back, and I wouldn't mind seeing Yoshi's Island or Corneria, either.

Would you love it as much with swimming?
Ooh, I handn't thought of that. I guess not as much...wait, has swimming been confirmed for Smash 4? I know there's Tortimer Island, but I feel like every picture we've seen of it has characters jumping over the water, not actually swimming in it.

In the Jungle Japes footage in the Smash Direct you can see the current act just like it did in Brawl. Fox falls in and gets swept away.

Though we haven't seen it for any other stages as far as I'm aware, so maybe they'll settle with having ruined just that one stage.

Haha, I actually went to go watch the stage footage from the Direct right after posting and saw that. Yeah, with that in mind, I guess the appeal of the stage is sort of lost. It works on The Great Sea as it's a bit bigger, but it wouldn't be any fun on Great Bay.
