Pikmin 3 really surprised me with how developed and engaging the characters of the new Captains were. It felt like a significant step up over the previous games, to the point where Olimar's absence didn't end up being the huge disappointment that I had been expecting. Stripping most of the abilities of the purple and white Pikmin in challenge mode, on the other hand...

I would have loved to see any of the three as playable in Smash, but unfortunately they all utilise the Pikmin in the same way as Captain Olimar, so I really can't see that there's any way to differentiate them moveset-wise. Some franchises are just destined to be stuck with a single representative in perpetuity, I guess.

Pretty much how I feel: loved the new characters, but never expected them in the slightest for Smash. Trophies are just fine for them (though I'm still a little saddened we probably won't be seeing Rock Pikmin as part of Olimar's arsenal).

I'm sorta expecting Rock Pikmin for his final smash, since the new ship item seems to point to him having a new one.

Man, End of Day as an FS (complete with Bulborbs) was just genius. I'd be sad to see it go.

Rock Pikmin as the new FS? Maybe...there's not a whole lot of options for him, so I guess it'd be a nice power-up boost ala Wario-Man (as in, where all of Olimar's Pikmin become rock ones).

Soooo.... Even Sakurai admits that the new Captains have better designs than Olimar, yet still adds him instead? Just add them in. Fuck tradition.

I didn't see him say they were better designed than Olimar, just that she is well-designed.

Brittanny alt disconfirmed, but nice to see she wasn't forgotten entirely.

I'm saddened to see that Brittany isn't an alt for Olimare, but at least she's in the game in some form. She is my favorite captain in Pikmin 3.

At this point, I'm guessing if Olimar get's any alts, it will just be Louie.

Brittany and Louie are different characters, they wouldn't work as alts.

Rhythm Girl is a placeholder for Chorus Men. Kept going back and forth between cutting Squirtle/Ivysaur/Ike and either Lucas/Snake. Mewtwo might make it in, but I went with Dixie Kong because it'd be a shame for her not to make it along with Ridley. Curse you, 48 slots! And of course a Lucina alt gotta be there!

Having looked into this leak (and trust me, I've done a deep investigation into this), I can almost guarantee that the RosalinaX leak is false. Everything RosalinaX leaked so far was either plausible or already confirmed information and it does little more than to keep the leak alive. Even if I hadn't done a deep investigation, I would still be suspicious of the leak.

If anyone wants to hear in details as to why I feel this leak is a fake that really shouldn't be discussed here, I have an essay-worth to write. When I'll get it done is unknown, but if I am really lucky, I should have it ready by Thursday (but we'll see). I would like to make a thread about it, but I doubt it'd remain open, so I'll probably just post it here IF and only IF anyone is interested in hearing my thoughts. I am going to post it on Smashboards, GameFAQs, and the Mario Kart Wii Forums regardless, though, since I've actually heard very recent discussions of them on the former two and the last one is where the RosalinaX leak originate from.

Anyway, onto the roster, I might be able to see it, but only if you put Mewtwo back in Dixie Kong's place. I can't see us not getting who is essentially the most wanted character period (even above Mega Man) and unlike Mega Man, does suffer from recent relevancy issues (had the opposite in fact), and is one of the most popular Pokémons of all-time. Also, keep in mind that if Ike gets cut, it won't be because Chrom replaces him (it would go against Sakurai's uniqueness philosophy), it'll be because of time constraints. Then again, I'm almost 100% sure the RosalinaX leak is false, so I'm expecting no cuts beyond Snake, Squirtle, and Ivysaur (it's possible, but not that likely).

Ike is relevant to the Wii era, and he's most likely going to be updated to reflect Path of Radiance. He's starred in two international Fire Emblem games and has a completely unique move set. Lucas, on the other hand, appeared in one Japan-only game eight years ago, and his move set is derivative of Ness'. Also, given the size and public awareness of the respective series, three Fire Emblem characters and one Mother character makes far more sense in 2014 than two characters each.

I'm confident in Lucas's return (even though I don't care for him). One thing to note is that not only was he a high-priority character in Brawl, he's also not from a series with a changing cast (since the series is dead). While I am confident Ike won't be simply cut-and-replaced, there is an off-chance he gets cut due to time constraints due to Chrom taking priority (and I do think he would actually be unique, though that's not a guarantee). But I do expect to see both Ike and Lucas return to the roster.

Seems too similar to Peach's Final Smash in Brawl if there's no damage involved. At the very least, it should cause some damage for about ten seconds, sleep for an addition ten seconds and if Jigglypuff can get to someone near, mark one of his opponent for a potential for a serious knockback.

Considering that Sakurai wants to minimize cuts, it's a pretty safe bet he will at least attempt to bring Ike back.

These are one of the less than fifteen conventional potential newcomers/returnees left with a shot of being playable (not including surprises or Gematsu leaked characters). I'd hate for Takamaru or Dixie Kong to get disconfirmed, even if I do prefer Mach Rider and King K. Rool over them (and see the latter as more likely than the former).

We almost certainly won't find out about Ridley's role until E3 (though I've mostly given up on him being playable at this point).
 
If we still lived in a world of slightly differing clone characters to pad out the roster I'd have been all for Brittany as a spot filler, she is the best captain in the series after all.
 
What characters would cause major meltdowns if they were revealed to be just trophies? I'd love to see a Mewtwo trophy PotD just to see one.

Does that make me an asshole?

The bigger mystery is why Young and Toon are not called Link and the other one is not called older Link seeing as Link is more commonly and originally portrayed as a youngster.

I've been doubtful about the RosalinaX leak ever since it came out, so I'm definitely interested in your motivation as for why it's false.
