Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I predicted a couple of months ago that Alph would be playable. I took it back after a while because it sounded dumb, but I'm thinking of bringing it back.

He could be playable you know. Maybe.

Olimar already does everything that a playable Pikmin character should, and his new recovery represents Pikmin 3. Alph would easily be the most redundant character on the roster, especially considering how similar to Olimar he looks. It just seems unnecessary to me.
 
I can't wait for the impending disappointment when "Alts" for every character are disconfirmed. I don't see the fascination and it's not going to happen. We don't need an alt for every character outside of colour schemes and it's only going to be in exceptional or minimal circumstances. I think Project M has warped a lot of people into the idea that it "should" happen, when we really don't need it.

There is such a huge fascination with them on here after it has become such commonplace for alts to be sold as a quick buck in other fighting games, but I can assure you we're not going to see Mr L. again (even Paper Mario himself is lucky to get represented anywhere in Smash), and if it's a completely separate character than the one being represented just because they look/work similarly, dream on.

I'm only expecting "alts" (a full set of alternate costumes with their own portraits) for Wario, Wii Fit Trainer, and Villager, and I honestly don't want any more than that.

The fascination with them is that it's nice to have more options. When I choose a character, I like to also choose a color and costume that make the character feel like "mine".

Every other fighting game on the market already does it. There's no reason for Smash not to. For a game series that likes to throw in everything and the kitchen sink, it's bizarre that the series hasn't done proper alternate costumes yet.

Same here, and Mac of course, but I feel that was such a simple to incorporate alternate that they thought why not. Alts where it alters the silhouette of a character or is scraping the barrel just to be incorporated for the sake of it, I feel shouldn't be included. I've said it before on here but the character designs are iconic as they are, I can see why people would want them, but it's not going to happen outside of characters like WFT and Villager, or Wario who has two equally iconic designs, both representing different aspects of his character.

I'm hardly expecting them to have time to give everybody a costume, but Project M was hardly where people got the idea they should be a thing. Other 3D fighting games have had them for eons and Brawl itself gave Wario a costume. Overly elaborate ones which turn a character into someone else (like Hal Jordon into John Stewart in Injustice) probably won't ever happen, but simpler stuff like Peach's biker jumpsuit or Ness' pajamas or similar ideas that don't require re-rigging anything don't strike me as insane requests.

Not even a Dr. Mario alt? Not like they'll ever make him a separate character again so nothing's lost by doing so.

Red indicates new assist trophies, blue indicates returning assist trophies from Brawl. I used lots of Brawl renders cause it is way too much work trying to crop them out of the images and they largely look the same though with a bit more color (Waluigi's case is a lot more color). Thanks to the Smash Wiki for cropped out versions of some of the characters on here.

Never mind, I changed my mind about Alph.
 
There hasn't been any information on local multiplayer, has there? I'm kind of curious if it will be multi card or download play. If they did download play I could see them doing it similar to that new kirby fighters mini game in kirby triple deluxe, where it limits the characters you can choose if you don't have the game yourself
 
I was kind of hoping the Devil and Nintendog ATs would get cut, since they're just nuisances. And now there's Skull Kid, too :(

On the whole, though, I'm very happy with the AT list so far. They picked a lot of good ones to return, and most of the newcomers look cool, too.

Nothing so far, but I'm sure there'll be some sort of (restricted) download play. I could see them doing something like limiting you to the original 8 characters in Smash 64 and make all the shiny new ones some incentive to buy.

Or maybe they'll force you to main the random button.
