from last year, but it's making the rounds on reddit and other places and oh my god

this is what she wanted it to say: "I love XXX" (boyfriend's name)"

this is what it says: "Babylon is the world's leading dictionary and translation software"

legit: https://translate.google.com/#iw/en/בבילון הינה תוכנת מילון ותרגום מהמובילות בעולם

Why not just ask for a double blind translation from several individuals on the internet instead?

Would be much more reliable.

I have a tattoo in Amharic saying 'Equality' and I had an Amharic speaker translate it for me.

My friend had a chinese symbol he thought said 'power'.

Turns it out reads 'stab'........Thought that was relevant

How did she not try to re-translate it? Hell, I re-translate something just to make sure even when I'm sending an email... wtf lady.

She should be glad it wasn't Alta Vista on her back. But I don't get these kinds of people. If you don't read or understand the language, why get a tattoo? I see it all the time.

no one does it for the actual meaning dude, it just lookz totes kewl, or so they think

also, if she was gonna get an "I LOVE MY BOYFRIEND" tattoo I guess doing it in another language saves you some trouble if you break up

How does that even happen? The two don't really look anything alike.

My friend was drunk and is the stupidest person I know. He also doesn't speak any other language than English. It was simply 'a poor decision'

He then got 'Fisherman's friend comes with a free tattoo' in the worst calligraphy I've ever seen.

Some people do not learn.

But I don't get these kinds of people. If you don't read or understand the language, why get a tattoo? I see it all the time.

Because it's not actually about knowing, understanding, or being involved with the language.
It's about:

Hey, look at my tattoo!
Oh, you don't know what it says?
You're so silly and uncultured!
It says <whatever>

Would be pretty easy to do this correctly...just about any Jewish person could find you someone to translate Hebrew.

To be fair that can easily be turned in to something else. Like a cross.

Wait... shit.

A bouncer at a club I attended had a Thai tattoo that was supposed to say Manchester United forever, but instead said Liverpool Forever.
I assume the Thai tattooist was not a red devil, lol.

Are you Ethiopean/Eritrean?

I am not Ethiopian or Eritrean. I am Rastafarian so I feel like Ethiopia is my spiritual home, luckily someone I used to work with was born in Eritrea and could translate it accurately for me.

I speak (poor) Amharic but damn.....3 times the number of characters more in the alphabet than in English has is far too advanced for my brain to try and read.

Considering tattoos are traditionally forbidden in Judaism, isn't getting a tattoo in Hebrew kind of ironic
