maybe the crayons/coloring marks where too kiddy?

That image of the Japanese boxart doesn't do it justice, look at the Nintendo DS stripe to the left and compare it to the one on the US box, someone post a clear image of the Japanese one.

Another butchered U.S boxart.

US box looks much better.

guess there's nothing else left to be said...

that said, I think the crayons and crude lines from the Japan boxart express that sentiments of the game much better... the refinement of the coloring in the US version is a step away from the "back to basics" mentality of the game...

I like the US one. Usually when they change boxes things get really ugly but this one isn't bad at all IMO.
I agree. Actually the US one shows the arrows too. Looking at the JP box makes me think I can only draw Pacman. It's certainly not as big a deal as some of the other box changes we see.

JPN box was cool, but the USA one looks a lot better.

Markers fit better I think than crayons. (Does the game make it look like it was drawn in crayon? I haven't seen recent screenshots.)

Plus it doesn't seem as flat, if that makes sense.

Yeah, maybe they're pushing for the risqué E10+ to attract more customers? :P (I hate that there's a new ESRB rating.)

I do like the US boxart, though. The Japanese one fits the unique style that's preferred there, but it's also just pretty... random and doesn't truly catch the eye. The US version compromises by using the same concept, but putting a central focus on the yellow Pac-Man in the middle with the lighting.

US boxart has to stand out on shelves and be more eye-catching from a distance. This transformation can often have tragic results, but Pac-Pix is not one of them. Note how the logo and central design element leap out at you.

By the way, Wario, since even garbage like Sprung still fetch full price (and a full $25 or so used), I doubt a quick price drop is coming for Pac-Pix.

My favorite part of the original box was that with the crumbling crayon and semi-circle next to Pac-Man's mouth it looks like he's eating it... which is gone from the new version.

Aw, it's heartwarming to see an American publisher not screw up box art in the localization process. A+ and a cookie for Namco.

They'd better release that awesome Pac-Man stylus here, too. I'll never be able to use the standard DS stylus again. Once you go Pac, you never go back.

An honest-to-god good american boxart? I never thought I'd see the day...

Can I like them both equally?

ToastyFrog is right, we need that Pac-Man Stylus. Don't let us down Namco/Nintendo!!

They removed the crayons and replaced it with markers to make it look less childlike.

They moved the logo to the top of the box and made it more prominent.

It seems like they removed the paper texture from the background or at least subdued it comparatively.

The box art overall looks much cleaner and organized. The removal of the crayon chunks helped but I still don't like the red tinge on the edges of the box art. Good job Namco, now bring us the stylus and you'll get an A+.

The impressions sounded pretty good so far. I think it'll be a buy as long as its long enough. I'm hoping for 15+ chapters.

There's at least 24 chapters so far. I've opened up two books so far (12 chapters each), though the second 12 are really just a rehash of the first 12, but harder. Think of it as a second quest of sorts. I've been stuck on 2-10 for a while so I haven't been able to finish it up yet and see if there's a Book 3. I'll give it another try later today.

from a graphics standpoint alone the U.S. box works extremly well. nice readable large top centered name. the color on the edges help make it jump out but do not over poser the art in the middle. so on and so forth.

both look nice though.
