Halo 5: Guardians revealed - more at E3 - Fall 2015 [Box Art person is new guy]

I say they need to nail the base mechanics. Movement and shooting need to feel like Halo again. From there, keep the armor abilities, sprint and load out a but offer a mode of just pure Halo without all that. They can't move forward without introducing new mechanics to the game, it would be a wasted opportunity to find that new thing for the franchise.

Agreed, the series needs to move forward; however, those things took it backwards from a fundamental standpoint. The game shouldn't be bare bones but it needs something exclusively tailored for Halo. Those mechanics work better in the games they were inspired from.

A single "classic" playlist has never done well, especially for those of us who want to play more laid-back matches and not full teams every game.

Well, so it's a HE.

Damn my first thought/hope was actually Cortana.

Great news ... but why reveal now when it could have been an E3 megaton on stage?

Because it wouldn't have been, it's one of those worst kept secrets lol. I think Fall Out 4 or a new Bethesda Softworks IP will be the megaton ;)

60fps is the big one here, and if it's anything like Forza 5 it'll be glorious 1080p.

Eh, lame. Was hoping that the only female component of the Halo campaign formula would finally be given a role that is more than just exposition/flavor and barking out objectives. Am disappoint.

A FPS game series whose main intended audience are 15-30 year old males, and have a strong female primary character? Ain't going to happen, as refreshing as it would be.

I would say that the introduced elements in Halo 4 are not new additions, but more retooled traits that were taken from the basic elements that every player had in every Halo before. While there is more choice introduced, it actually broke down fundamentals that made the series work. Other editions were counterparts to existing stuff, which in hindsight just added more bloat and confusion to the overall sandbox. So to be harsh, Halo 4 introduced very little unique in the gameplay department—it just retooled or copied elements and broke more than help the overall gameplay.

But TR2013... :cries My daughter hates that Halo robot is a guy when we play co-op.

Hmm. Is the new TR's Lara regarded as strong?
Anyway, i forgot about the game. Besides, the devs comments about Lara Croft in that game didn't help any ("you want to protect her" or some such shit).

Let's say that strong female protagonist in games meant for young males are not impossible but they sure ain't common, and won't be used for well established series like Halo.

LOL maybe I missed something in the game but is there any other female character in the game series that can take
Cortanas place?

I'd prefer they create a new character to fill such a role. Palmer was horrible. If you take the tits away and put a buzzcut on her, she's just another dude for all intents and purposes.

We deserve better.

I don't disagree that Ordnance or Loadouts were broken and hurt the game. You take away my jetpack though and it will have to be out of my cold dad hands. Fuck that noise. Reach was poorly balanced, the AA in 4 are really fun.
Reach had better balanced AA's than Halo 4, what are you talking about? Active Camo was not improved whatsoever because it didn't cause the radar to go crazy like it did for Reach's version. That at least made the Camo user think about where they're going, rather than running blindly in. And I look at Promethean Vision as worse than Armor Lock. Armor Lock was frustrating in just the small quarters, otherwise it wasn't as destructive as (random scenario where I'm walking down a hallway) "Oh, great, the enemy now knows my pinpoint location because he can see through the walls."

Either way, AA's, equipment and loadouts in general can eat my shorts.

After 4, i have zero faith in 343i. I was a massive Halo fan, have all the games, some of the books, figures, a UNSC t-shirt.. etc...but Halo 4 was such a massive mis-step that it pretty much made my decision to get a PS4 over a bone. I knew once i did that QTE ending, that i had no desire to see anything else 343 had in store for Halo and that i was doen with the franchise.
I'm quite the same. I didn't like the changes they made in Reach's MP or any real improvements people thought they made in Halo 4's MP, and the campaign just lacked any interesting characters or stories for me. I have little interest in what Halo 5 will have (curious on the changes they're making for the single player, since it felt like a lot of changes were made in that regard), but Halo 2 Anny is something I'll certainly look at, but I'll still be cautious as I know there will be a catch.

Was partially kidding about terrible TR reboot being a good example. I'm continually saddened by the lack of more interesting and progressive choices in how game worlds are built, especially given their far-off fantasy settings with sci-fi wallpaper effectively affording them carte blanche. Not like we're doing girly things, like crocheting or arranging dollhouses...we'll still kill shit with all the macho bravado required of a product aimed at a male-dominated audience. Not meaning to single out Halo among countless others who should do more, but it's disappointing nonetheless.

Hope this new character is an ONI Spartan 4 agent sent to kill Chief. Based on the CGI halo 4 intro, It seems like ONI and Halsey aren't playing nice again, and ONI might want to use her to draw him out. All this speculation/theories are awesome honestly. Gets me excited for the future of the franchise.

Ew, they're keeping the Halo 4 artstyle? Hopefully the enemies and environments don't look like Halo 4's artistically.

You didn't play Spartan Ops, did you?
Halsey is working with the Covenant now.

Awesome to get a glimpse at the next game. 2015 os so far away though! Microsoft must have some bombs to drop at E3 if something as big as this is getting a pre-announcement. I can't believe E3 is only a few weeks away now!

I wish they'd keep a bit of mystery around this reveal though. Let us speculate who the mysterious figure is on the cover, let us guess where the story is going to go. Don't just confirm we are wrong on everything where's the fun in that?

I lost most of my interest in Halo after Halo 2, but it's nice to see CBOAT again :)

Still, looking forward to seeing what is shown at E3.

So...what would have made her a woman?

Some of the personality traits commonly displayed by women, perhaps?

I think a better question would be: "what could have made her interesting as a character?"

Because she wasn't. At all. Unless making egghead jokes and barking out "hoo-rah" orders repeatedly became interesting when I wasn't looking...

I half expected to see her scratching her crotch and making fart jokes by the end of the game.

glad i didnt stay up for this.

good to hear that cboat is back though lol

also...i hate when they show concept art. it always looks better than the finished product :\

If the E3 2013 trailer for Halo Xbox One is any indicator, of what will happen with Chief and Cortana, I would assume, that he is going to save her somehow.

If you still want to read the comics (Halo Escalation), don't read this:

The UNSC Spirit of Fire is back and Selena was the AI on that ship. Would be kinda cool, if they teamed up together, to save Cortana.

Was hoping the Spartan on the cover would be a female but I guess that tweet up the page confirms it's another dudebro :(

And Palmer sucked because she was just the hard ass marine captain stereotype and was boring because of it.

Not really sure how the stoic Master Chief qualifies as a 'dudebro'....

or what the hell 'dudebro' even means, to be honest.

In any case, interested to hear who this new character is!

There's a lot of ground to make up after Halo 4, hopefully 343 learns from their mistakes.

The Halo-Chief with the blue visor being a guy kind of bums me out already though, not because of some stupid social justice thing, I just think a lead female Spartan would be cool. Especially after Halo 4 where they introduce Lady-Spartan-who-worked-on-the-ship, only to shelve her with the other deep and interesting characters, like Guy-who-worked-on-the-ship.

Who knows, maybe the bromance between Blue Eyes and Captain King will be one for the ages.

I don't really follow any xbox news(outside major conferences, of course), so can someone please explain the hype for me? I thought this was announced a year ago during the Xbox One reveal...are people just excited for a release window(pushed back one), a cover, and concept art?

I don't get it.

I hope the HD versions of 3 and 4 ported to Xbone are true. Imagine being able to play the multiplayer from all three games from one menu, all with updated net code for a more consistent experience...

Doubt it will go down that way though. More likely H2 Anniversary will get the full treatment with MP and the other two (if they actually exist - I'm skeptical) will just be campaign only ports. Either way, H2A is basically a given at this point and I can't wait to see it at E3.

So they will show MP footage @E3?

I'm so pumped to sprint and jetpack around maps totally breaking them, with the addition of ADS this time!!!! /s

It's going to take a lot more than a tweet, 343. I'm extremely skeptical of anything multiplayer related after Halo 4.

EDIT: also, it's obvious that H2A is a thing at this point. I just wonder what Arbiter and Chief are going to look like.... I wonder if Chief is going to look the same as he does in Halo 4? Also, please just be a 1:1 port of Halo 2's multiplayer with updated visuals and netcode. Thank you.

They figured out how to transplant an AI into a human body. Unfortunately Cortana ends up in a man's body, hilarity unsues.

This is really well said and highlights in a very succinct way my issues with 4.
