Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Well Sakurai didn't reveal any unlockable characters besides Sonic and Snake until after the game had launched in Japan, so the Dojo didn't spoil those.

Yeah, I probably worded my post in a confusing way, that's exactly what I was trying to point out to R0ckman, that newcomer trailers aren't spoilers.

So, looking at the pokemon X/Y one, i'm hoping it follows a similar pattern.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDo5qFREiss

1. History of smash bros, evolution of the series
2. Going over 'core elements' of smash bros, and what sakurai felt was important to include in the game.
3. Show off Online features - showing off the options and details about 'For Glory'
4. More veteran reveals
5. Showing transition to HD/3DS, talking about transitioning from brawl assets to a new game
6. Show off a new gameplay feature, or show off smash run some more.
7. A trailer for one more newcomer
8. Show off a match using the newcomer
9. QA session

I want all newcomers to have trailers, even if it 'spoils' it for some people. The trailer is always super cool, we get some really cool art, and it's just fun. I hope even newcomers like wolf/toon link in brawl, who were 'last-minute subspace' unlockables (not featured in the story of subspace), get proper trailers as well. Wolf/toon link feel like they were either added in last, or something, due to lack of presence in subspace.

I don't think Nintendo has ever announced their plans for E3 this early and revealing more stuff for E3 at a gradual pace.

They kinda did last year. They announced their plan to present Mario Kart, Smash and 3D Mario during Jan Direct. If you are talking about something else then my bad.

Smash direct had tons of music, even if it wasn't the focus. We can pretty much assume all music used in the direct will be featured in the game, like the electric guitar version of ballad of the goddess.
Yeah, but there aren't posts on the website where you can download and listen to them. At the point that the direct came out, Brawl already had a release date didn't it?

Smash Brawl announced E3 May 9th 2006.
Dojo started May 22 Tue. 2007

July 12, 2007, smash brawl had a release date:

(lol it's a gif)

October 12 release date was delayed

http://www.smashbros.com/wii/en_us/info/info03.html

I assume we'll have a date at this year's E3, which is not later than Smash Brawl's release info.

Actually, they announced delay on Oct 11, but Sakurai already updated the site during morning so he chose to wait until next day to update the site about the delay.

I still remember that day as it was yesterday. Meltdown everywhere!

are the IGN boards even active anymore? lol

All I remember was smash hype, twilight princess hype (and theories as to who the princess was!? Was it zelda!?) and people posting mockups for what the Wii controllers would look like, before we knew they were remotes. I ate it all up, I love it.

Gaf is much better, though :p

So I think the Smash E3 reveals will go something like:

-Smash Bros. opens the Nintendo Digital Event with two trailers like the E3 2013 one. Pac Man is in the second trailer just like Mega Man was in the second trailer last year.

-During the Smash Roundtable we get info on connectivity, customization, online modes, along with a couple veterans and some moveset changes. The presentation will end with a newcomer trailer ala Wii Fit Trainer/Greninja.

-Maaaybe new info during the Invitational.

Exactly how I imagine it. I also think trailer #1 during the digital event will reveal veterans, too, like Ice climbers, Metaknight, and Wario. I think the invitational will also have sakurai playing the game live, possibly against another nintendo staffer.

I expect that they'll open with the opening cinematic of the game which will show off the remaining non unlockable characters which will nicely lead into Sakurai explaining each one.

You know, I look forward to seeing how Wario looks now that his colours should be bolder and texture more subdued.

So the Dojo gave a release day two months after the updates started. That's a ton more info. Two months after PotD we still we getting only posing pictures!

There was also a solid year of 0 information after initial trailer. At least we've been getting something, not to mention a 40 minute direct with as much content as a year's worth of dojo updates.

Smash Brawl revealed May 9, 2006. - 5 veterans, 5 newcomers, 2 stages
378 days of no information
0 new information until Dojo Starts May 22, 2007

Smash 4 verbally announced E3 2011 (right?)
Smash 4 revealed E3 2013 - 9 veterans, 3 newcomers, 11 or so stages
About 339 days since E3, we've had 14 veteran reveals and 3 more newcomers revealed. We're way better off than brawl.

Didn't the new Smash games also have a few years of nothing after the initial reveal?

Initial announcement yeah, but we weren't shown game footage until last E3. We were shown game footage for brawl at E3 2006. I'm not sure when brawl was announced verbally, but if it was, then it was a while.

Brawl was initially announced at E3 2005, just as a Smash Bros. for Wii. Only a verbal announcement. This was actually the first time Sakurai had heard of such a thing. It was formally revealed one year later.

It took SSB4 two years in comparison from initial verbal announcement to reveal, mostly because of Sakurai being busy with Uprising.

Yeah, so add that extra year in, and Smash45 is still significantly behind Brawl in terms of reveals.

Did anyone else notice that the official Nintendo @ E3 website now says that the Digital Event will take place on June 11th instead of 10th? Weird...

http://e3.nintendo.com/#2014/date

It's even stranger considering they sent the Filsamech Mii through SpotPass less than 1 day ago remarking it's going to be on June 10th, and how adding in calendar through Google and Yahoo (the two I obtained to try) resulted in the even being added on June 10th, indeed. I suppose it's a (strange) error on the site, but...eh, asked to NoA's Twitter account, let's see if/how they'll answer.
