Sony's E3 2014 - What are we all expecting?

A new Gears that isn't a stopgap release like Judgement will move systems.

And I wasn't even talking about that. I'm referring to all of these rumors about games like Fallout, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead, Star Wars, and games of that nature being potentially locked up.

If Microsoft somehow managed to get Fallout 4 as an exclusive, it might be one of the biggest "fuck you" moments in the history of the industry. WAY bigger than FFXIII going to the 360.

Of course, this is all based on rumors and normally this kind of stuff would be taken with a grain of salt, HOWEVER, the fact that MS themselves are letting all of this info about some pretty major titles get out to the public before E3 is unusual. Some really big announcements are likely to happen and we haven't heard a peep out of Sony yet.

...you actually entertain the possibility that those list .jpgs are true?

Damn if this is true...I should stop visiting GAF till E3 lol I don't want it to be ruined for me.

Also like to add because of their financial troubles I am guessing they can't afford to pump out as many games now, right?

If SCE was financially constrained they wouldn't be pumping hundreds of millions into PS Now and Morpheus. The fact is Sony as a whole is doubling down on games because of problems elsewhere in the company. So no, in my opinion there is no need to worry about reduced software output.

You do know that Sony can match MS IP for IP when it comes to sales , i don't know where people get this idea that MS has bigger IP than Sony .
Also we had rumors last year that MS had everything lock down and we all know what happen .
Here is fun fact TLOU sold as much or more as any of titles you name there

There it is again. I will ask this again...

Sorry, what I meant was non-gameplay trailers. I'm not necessarily talking about using CG footage. For example (some games weren't 1st party, but they're exclusive), Lily Bergamo showed a teaser-like trailer with no gameplay, Shadow of the Beast looked like a mix of non-gameplay and gameplay footage, etc.

They learned their lesson the hard way with Killzone 2. Yes, they use cinematic but they (for the most part) use in game assets.

It's not about having bigger IP, it's about buying and taking away IP from your competition that sells more than either platform holders' 1st party exclusives.

Please don't think I'm trying to prop Microsoft up here, because I'm not. I think denying people the ability to play a game that everyone should otherwise be able to enjoy is a really shitty practice and not the right way to go about winning these console wars.

Well, I'm not the one saying it. I'm just saying that between the rumors, price drop on the day of their E3 presser, and the fact that theyre leaking info out on key titles that would normally be saved for their show...something's up with MS.

If anything, I'm on Team Playstation and I would be super-pissed off if a company like Bethesda actually gave MS exclusive rights to the console version of something like a Fallout 4.

Yes, it's called panic.

- Gears is not coming out anytime soon.
- Yeah that is not happening.
- Counteracting bad NPD numbers and (probably) extremely bad WW numbers.

Like I said this reminds me of the same time last year when people were saying the same shit.

Sony won E3 2013 primarily because DRM and price. Exclusive content wise, MS was superior.
EDIT: MS is even more desperate/Sony can't rely on their wining factors of last year

Microsoft is going into this E3 bloodied and beaten and in desperate need to make a impact. I have no doubt in my mind MS will have some serious 3rd party gets.

Sony hasn't really been aggressive on the 3rd party exclusive front since the PS1 days.

Granted I cant think of many gets left. Its not like last gen when they could pick PlayStation exclusive 3rd party franchises off one by one.

My only real exclusive prediction would be MS publishing Cyberpunk 2077. Other then that all I see is exclusive DLC out the arse by both console makers.

Fallout 4 exclusivity would probably cost way to much. DLC seems normal. Wouldn't say it wont happen but I would not bet on it.

Left 4 Dead 3? LOL. Like Valve need the money.

Star Wars? Maybe. MS <3 EA. I expect more unprecedented unprecedentedness this year between those two.

Probably see some random Japanese exclusives though for both consoles.

there will be so my broken harts when MS doesn't have anything 'tied up' exclusive to unvail @ E3. smh

MS are NOT in any position to 'bide their time' and hold content for E3, which is why a Kinect-less Xbone SKU for $399 was announced before NPD came out, which is why Halo 5 was announced at 3am, the day after NPD came out.

MS are not about to 'hold off' and lose WEEKS of sales (in waiting for E3) they could gain by announcing shit NOW.

I cant believe this is still a thing.

The problem is the games you list don't sell more than Sony first party IP .
MS can try to take away games but i don't see it happening now that sales not in there favor.
I sure they might get one of 2 games like how they got DR3 but those IPs don't really mean much IMO .

That doesn't explain the timing of the price drop, which is suspect as all get out. Willing to bet anything those Kinect-less SKUs are sitting on pallets somewhere in East Asia right now. Why delay their release until the day of their E3 Presser, other than to make a more formal announcement?

I'm starting to have this niggling feeling that MS are going to massively upstage Sony this E3.

It's certainly possible. But you have to be assuming two key things. One is that Sony really did become arrogant over the early lead and haven't been aggressive with third party devs or their own devs to get games ready. You're also assuming that third party publishers don't give a shit about the fact that the PS4 has nearly twice the userbase of the Xbox One and that nearly every third party game on the PS4 is outselling its Xbox One counterpart. But maybe they don't care. Maybe MS is going to throw hundreds of millions of dollars at Bethesda and EA to make up for the lost sales they aren't going to get by not having PS4 versions of Battlefront, Fallout and Mass Effect.

Yeah I can agree on that. Complete opposite situation from last year. Microsoft this past week seriously just seemed to went all out, only increasing the E3 hype. Announcing a Kinect-less $399 XBone SKU, Halo 5 being announced as well for Fall 2015. Like, they're getting ready to hit homeruns at E3 and destroy Sony's momentum.

The Sony camp so far seems... Quiet, like nothing really solid so far outside of rumors and leaks. Granted Sony have always been known for having their shit leaked out badly in the past, but if E3 last year was anything they're keeping their shit close in an underground nuclear bunker away from everyone else.

To be honest all they need to show me is that Last Guardian is fucking real to make me happy. That game alone would be a big deal and enough if they want to try and steal Microsoft's thunder from the morning, THAT would be what they need... And then announce it'll be coming out Fall 2015 along with Uncharted. That would be a fucking showdown.

E3 is the big one for North America, but I'm also excited for Gamescon (Europe) and Tokyo Game Show (Japan). Shit, we already know NIS (Disgaea series), Falcom (Ys, Legend of Heroes) are making PS4 games and Square Enix is gonna bring Final Fantasy XV as well, maybe to E3 too.

and where do people think MS' gaming division is gonna get all this $$ to buy all these 3rd party exclusives? x-D I still think MS gaming division spent the MAJORITY of whatever budget they have/had for those types of things on Titanfall exclusivity (can we even be sure they can afford exclusive marketing or whatever they have/had for TheDivision still?).

i mean MS were forced to DROP Kinect - as apposed to slashing the price of the bundle $100 - that is HUGE because Kinect was a very big part of Xbone's future.

so yeah, MS is in some hot messy shit, rn... and I don't think there is any way they can conceivably pull themselves out of it by way of E3.

Third parties are knocking down Sony's door to get on stage.

we could also be seeing games/deals made from when xbone was the presumed winner of this gen

i want to see the discussion going on between sony and ea lol

At some point MS also has to say "fuck it". Look at Titanfall. Respawn made money, EA made money, MS is the one that did not make money on Titanfall. They cannot keep doing that with every third party game.

MS were obviously gonna announce it at E3, hence the release date. But NPD numbers were so troubling they announced it NOW. Same with Halo 5... there is no point in MS 'unveiling' a 2015 title @ 3am and then saying 'more at E3!' It's all it energize the fanbase. LOL

people need to chill, and come back down to Earth as far as MS' gaming division, imo.

I think my main concern about Sony's potential underperformance comes from the fact that it sounds like two of their biggest upcoming projects - Uncharted 4 & Sony Santa Monica's new thing, have been taken behind the barn and shot to bits. UC4 especially felt like it was due for a big E3 reveal, but with all the behind-the-scenes departures, I don't think it'll be here in any significant form.

With those eliminated, what else do they have to show? Especially ready for Fall.

Lol@ all this talk, like all sony is going to show is uncharted(which will probably look amazing btw).

And why ppl still believe that MS gaming has unlimited $$ to buy whatever game is beyond me.

There's no fucking way third parties aren't going to be calling up Sony to get a spot at E3 on their stage. I think the most Microsoft can nab at third parties now is something like DLC exclusivity and by tossing a disproportionate and irrational amount of money at third-party exclusivity which isn't going to happen. I mean shit, Microsoft was the only one who got screwed out of Titanfall XBone/360 exclusivity, Respawn and EA were pretty content I'd imagine. There are more people with PS4's than XBone's right now.

I don't think this game is likely, plus I can't see them abandoning the PC version.

Speaking of them, I'm still surprised CD Projekt Red were on MS' stage at all last year given MS' huge DRM-push, which ironically they were supposed to be so hyperbolically against (in my opinion their truthfulness on this took a major hit by not bowing out when MS' plans came to light), but I don't really think that game is likely.

Despite being at MS' conference last year they have basically been openly touting that Witcher 3 will look and run better on PS4 (funnily enough Kojima's been doing this too despite opening that conference with MGSV which will basically be 80% PS4 lol). While obvious, that's not usually the behavior you see from a dev who has another game locked up with MS.

I can see some Japanese Publishers getting exclusive deals done with MS( which makes me sad) but not big western publishers like Bethesda or even EA after Titanfall.

If i am a Pub i can already see where the tide is going .
Even with all the steps MS taking it's just to try and keep pace with Sony cause every where else other than UK and USA is lost cause .
If your series sell good in EU it has to go on PS .

all we have been hearing from insiders, since LAST YEAR E3 is that Sony has content but keeps pushing it back, and pushing it back because they feel they don't need to 'release the hounds'.

so, the question is... will this E3 be when Sony unleashes the goods? Who knows? We'll just have to wait and see on that.

but, what I am fairly certain of, is that 1) MS cannot afford to 'hold anything back' for any E3 presser, and the gaming division LITERALLY cannot afford to buy 3rd party exclusives anymore.

God I just wonder who's going to take the bait with that one. I think everyone knows the story about what happened to Bamco when they did that, and I don't think it ended well for them, unless I'm an idiot and I'm misinformed. If anything, it's going to be a Platinum game.

Well, if you believe Spencer then the plan for a Kinect-less Xbox One only began in April.

people stay believing MS' entertainment/gaming division has access to MS proper's blank check book... smh

My only real hope is for something new and something primarily western. I think Sony's IP library is weaker overall compared to MS and nintendo. They need to use the early generation to try some new concepts. Really hoping for second party and mid-priced titles, avoid AAA games and show us some classic genres but with a twist. Mystery, adventure, stealth, sim, rts, western RPG, dogfighting etc. Avoid T/FPS and Racing.

Would love to see a warhawk type game but more fleshed out and a better defined universe, something that can translate into multiple genres like an RTS game or dog fighting game.

I don't know why people think this either. Where was this unlimited funds on the 360 for the last 5 years? I don't remember them making any big multiplat exclusive to the 360.

Yeah should be Platinum since they work for anyone once they get pay and maybe one or two smaller IPs .

AAA games is what sell consoles and when it comes to variety no one does it as good as Sony .
Sony has more IP in different genres than any other company .

One of CD Projekt Red (I forgot his name) guy apparently is having hard time coming to grips with this. Basically calling resolution difference Sony PR points. The whole thing is fucking weird coming from a guy who works at CD Projekt Red. But I could see MS paying CD Projekt Red to keep Cyberpunk off of PS4. Surely this is an expensive project and CD Projekt Red would like to have some piece of mind. monetarily speaking.
