Last Week Tonight has been pretty brilliant since the first episode, and this was no exception. Love me some John Oliver!

Yep, saw it last night and was looking forward to this thread to be posted.

Really hilarious. Oliver is starting to hit his stride on the new show.

There's still the cringeworthy humor about where the people making the jokes don't know shit about the games though. This is why something like this is impressive.

I kinda feel like Jon didn't really know, but the jokes were low-level enough he didn't need to (and the writers seem to have a good clue)

I was watching this with my mom, visiting from out of town who has disparaged video games but is lvl 162 on Candy Crush, only to see her laugh out loud, and us then having a healthy conversation about video games.

I haven't been following this Tomodachi thing, but what is with Nintendo's bullshit excuse that it's too late to change the game?

Have they still not figured out patching?

Not this again...

First off, the game's been out in Japan for a year, the dev team has moved on to other things a good while ago.
Second, patching in same-sex relationship would require some changes to some other things in the game. For instance, what do you do about pregnancy?

Patches aren't instant-fixes.

Nah, but they figured out how to apologise. That's what they do best these days.

So you pull off some guys or put the new product on hold and fix the product that's releasing now. Post release support is part of any software companies job. Why should Nintendo be any different?

As for the second excuse, lesbian couples get pregnant all the time. We have family friends who did just that. It's not like they're showing graphic sex in the game directly leading to pregnancy, right?

Any other software company would fix this, not tell its customers to wait for the next game like it's still 1989.

This is so disgustingly disrespectful to Nintendo's heritage! They owe Iwata an apology at the absolute minimum! John Oliver needs to be tolerant of Nintendo's intolerance!

Yeah, sure, have some guys who never touched the game to work on patches, they won't screw up other parts of the game in the process!

Fair enough on the second point.
