93%. Every time a review is added I'm expecting a negative one to appear, but it's been a pretty positive looking outlook thus far.

X-Men Countdown :

X-Men (2000)

The intro is still as iconic as on day one.
The fights REALLY didn't aged well, but the rest is pretty good!
Cool to see Kitty as a generic actress, diferent Pyro and "small" young Wolverine =3

That picture really says everything.

I like it though, yeah those fight scenes are stupid as hell. But there's something kind of likable about that movie.

I really hope this isn't Wolverine front and centre again. My favourite thing about First Class was the relationship between Charles and Erik. Besides that, looking forward to it.

There will still be plenty of that. It's also being promoted as Xavier's story, similar to how First Class was Erik's story.

Going to see this tomorrow. Yes I know I am a horrible Heat fan, I have zero fear of the Pacers, we will win tomorrow (I'll catch the second half). I am going to enjoy my favorite super hero team.

It's annoying preview shows don't start until 10pm, as opposed to 7-8pm like other big movies have so far. Really want to see this Thurs night, don't feel like getting home at 1am though :/

So the biggest question on my mind is how Bolivar Trask can go from a very large black man in Xmen 3 to a dwarfish white man in this new film ? Or perhaps since time travel is involved it's perhaps the other way around ? either way ...

In the last 2 weeks I re-watched the original Xmen trilogy as well as first class , I hadn't seen any of them in years so I figured it was time.

My thoughts ? First Class is a FAR better film than the rest. Like , it's almost in another league.

X-men was a consistently enjoyable romp with some corny dialog and adequate fight scenes. X-2 builds on the first one with some pretty awesome sequences from the beginning until about 3/4's the way through ... honestly the first 90 minutes are pretty great. Unfortunately it ends so very poorly just to set up the next film in some fashion that it's pulled down a notch. Which brings us to X3... well, honestly the ending of X2 goes low enough that X3 , in it's full run time , is really no worse for the wear. The dialog is a bit cheesier and so many characters getting de-powered or straight up murdered brings with it an almost comical appeal. On the whole, if the trilogy was just 1 long movie (and it almost plays out like one) , it starts off decently enough, get's pretty awesome and then quickly slides down in quality until it just ends.

This is why, after that bar got lowered as much as it did by the ending of X3, Wolverine Xmen origins is really just the next logical step downwards. Starts off mediocre at best and gradually gets worse until it ends with a downright laughable battle atop 3 mile island.

First Class though, man , it's probably just Micheal Fassbender and James mcavoy more than anything but their performances completely sell the movie for me. Course, it leads to another plot hole beyond trask- if Xavier is shot at the end of first class then how come at the start of X3 when it's the mid 80's (just guessing) and the 2 of them go to see Jean Grey , Xavier is walking just fine ... and also another plot hole I'm curious how they will explain is that Beast/Hank McCoy invents cerebro in first class in the 60's so how exactly does magento help build it ... especially given that the cerebro in the trilogy is quite a bit different than the one first class. Are we to assume they become friends again or was the intent that first class was kind of going to be it's own version of events until Days of Future Past was greenlit ?

Either way I'm interested in seeing the new one and if they bother to answer even one of those questions , cool. If not , whatever.

X2 is still best X-Men movie. First Class was a great apology for the atrocities that Origins and Last Stand were, but X2 is still the bar that needs to be cleared for an X-Men film. And still one of the top 3 comic book films.

Maybe I am blinded by the power of Brian Cox.

Nah, you've got it right.

Yep X2 is still the bar. After X3 and Origins, I feel like most of First Class' praise comes from what it doesn't fuck up, while the rest blurs into the mesh of mediocrity that preceded it.

First Class is excellent and has amazing energy and action. But no movie captures what makes X-Men X-Men like X2. That movie is incredible.

Also its hard to make the perfect X-Men movie with mostly second or third tier characters, I know First Class had no choice in the matter but you need the main characters.

Part of me still wishes that we'd gotten a stand-alone Magento origins film, but that mostly stems from my personal belief that he's one of the best and most interesting characters in all of comics. At the very least I'm glad his back story was worked into First Class as much as it was.

It's certainly telling that whenever First Class isn't about Magneto, it's bad.

I still can't believe they made Xavier and Mystique childhood besties. lol

So awful.

First Class gets by with the scenes of Fassbender and McAvoy together. Also Bacon as the villain. Everything else is mediocre and rides on the coattails of the above. There was definitely potential there. It didn't shit the bed like Last Stand and Origins at least. It just could have been so much more.

I've used the analogy before, but First Class is a good apology after a bad breakup. Last Stand and Origins fucked it up bad. First Class was like "Oh, I am sorry I treated you so bad. Please, let me explain. Give me another chance."
Well, they made me consider a nice dinner out. A second date if you will. And The Wolverine was a good second date. A nice follow up that was a really great date until the end of the night where it didn't end extremely well, but it didn't piss me off enough to leave.
Now, here comes Days of Future Past. It's coming in with flowers and chocolate and everything. It's screaming "Please, take me back. I can be the lover you want me to be. See? I brought all the stuff you like! I even brought back what made you love me in the first place!"
Well, this better fucking deliver. I want to be in a serious loving relationship with the X-Men movies again.

I just rewatched the first movie last night and man is it rough. Pretty much any character that is not Wolverine, Rogue, Jean, Magneto, or Prof X gets short changed. Cyclops is on the boarder but he doesn't do much but play off Wolverine and has one scene with Xavier. Storm might as well be an extra. The brotherhood of evil mutants are cartoonishly bad, no motivations at all. The action scenes are really rough. The message of the series was there but done in a very simple manner.

I am going to watch X2 but that one I know very well. It is incredible how much more fleshed out the main characters become. Storm, Mystique, Nightcrawler, Iceman, Pyro all get to have some moments the explore why they fight for which side they are on. The entire movie is about humans and mutants and what is your place in that battle, how does one fight for those who constantly threaten you.

It's amazing how well X2 turned out since they let Singer have the time and money the promised to pull it off, since they took that away from him in the first one.

So, I hope there's something about AoA at the end; Cyke is back as a horseman, Gambit is introduced as one as well.

I was reminded last night that Solid Snake wrote the first movies. Still blows my mind to this day. I know it wasn't just him but still.

I really love X2 and First Class equally.

First Class delivered some excellent Magneto scenes and that great finale. Eric and Charles shared some of the best scenes in the entire franchise in that movie.

I also feel it delivered the "X-Men message" rather well.

Can we please just have one movie, hell just one scene where Cyclops is clearly the leader of the X-Men.
You would have gotten that in Singer's X3. Cyclops having the danger room built so he could train the X-Men to be stronger so something like Jean's death wouldn't happen again.

Starting X2 now. I hope Singer brings back the X-Men theme song for Days. Its so close to the cartoon, its great. Nightcrawler time!

Be sure to soak in Storm's laughably bad wig.

I still can't believe it took them three whole movies to not make Halle Berry look terrible.

X2 is still awesome. It was the time when all Marvel movies had superior sequels.

Blade 2 > Blade 1.
X2 > X-Men
Spider-Man 2 > Spider-Man

Granted, Fantastic Four was shit to begin with. So both of those suck on different levels.

I was really hoping that Iron Man would continue the trend of Marvel movies with the sequel being a big jump in quality over the first. But sadly, Iron Man 2 was not. It is not the shit storm that many make it out to be, but it was a step back from Iron Man 1.

Thankfully, Winter Soldier was fantastic. Let's hope it continues the trend of Marvel sequels being great. Amazing Spider Man 2 being the exception. It was shit.

Be sure to soak in Storm's laughably bad wig.

Bag wig or not, it couldn't save just how horrible she was as the character. They should have gotten Angela Bassett at the time.

My favorite shot of X2 is during the Wolverine and Lady Deathstrike fight. Wolvy charges at Deathstrike and the camera, held in the air and then dropped, races towards them and bounces just as Wolvy hits Deathstrike. The commentary for that scene mentioned that they would normally edit out that type of camera movement, but since it added to the kinetic feel of the shot, they left it in.

It's funny how simple that fight is when compared to anything done in the last six years or so in comic book films. Still works.

X2 has one of the cruelest 'deaths' in film history. Poor Lady D, poised to regenerate and suffocate for all eternity.

Yet it also has so many satisfactory moments with Stryker getting fucked over.

Wolvie sticks him in the ribs, then chains him to the helicopter.
Then Magento comes in and essentially staples him to a concrete wall.
Then Stryker finally dies while stapled to the wall as the damn bursts. He is either crushed by the force of the wave, or drowns.

So nice.

Disagree with you on blade 2, it's aged far worse than the first has. I just don't think Guillermo del toro is a good English director. The fight scenes were cool but the film itself is eh. The first had a far better villain too

X2 and Spidey 2 tho

The saddest part of that whole thing is the shot where her eyes change back to their natural color seconds before she dies. One last sad reminder that she was under the control of Stryker and not in her right mind.

:(

Is that what would happen? I assume she just died from lack of oxygen and she wouldn't be able to "come back." Their powers seems kind of hinged on basic metabolic rules, so I always assumed she'd just stay dead.
