Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Schedule for Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS so far:

EDIT: I may have made a mistake, so it would be best if you can confirm it (use the PDT time since it is the official one).
As far as general questions, no. Specific detailed questions that people on smashgaf, etc, would want answers to, won't be answered.

It'll be generic questions like "Why did you include wii fit trainer", or "What was it like getting capcom to let you use megaman?" or something related to namco bandai. Good questions, but stuff we probably already knew the answer to. Let's see what the press actually asks.
You have to be joking if you think the press will ask bad questions and doubly so if you think most of SmashGAF can ask a good question. No offense meant towards anyone, just how I feel.

I mean, I don't think anyone's gonna stand up and say "Where's wavedashing you hack?" At most we'll get another question about game speed which he answered last time.

"Is the Gamatsu leak true?" "Were you just trolling when you have an in depth look at the Ridley boss? He's playable right?"

I think a good question that will probably be asked is something about DLC plans.

Yeah, I don't mean Ridley, Wavedashing, etc.

I want questions like:

  • "Is the smash invitational today a sign that you want this smash brothers to be more competitive? More widely accepted by the competitive community?"
  • "What was the reasoning behind your decision to remove characters that transform mid-battle? Does the 3DS hardware have anything to do with that?"
  • "What were some of the complications of developing for 2 systems at once? Were there any limitations on the 3DS that forced design decisions and changes for the Wii U?"
  • "Are there any plans for DLC? What about balance patches and bug fixes? How long do you plan on supporting the game with updates after release?"

A lot of other questions might be inspired by information we see during the digital event/roundtable, so I can't come up with too many more at the moment.

I think some press will honestly and earnestly ask really good questions, it happens almost every year. I'm just afraid that a fair chunk of the questions will have "We can't answer that at this moment" or "I don't know" as an answer. Or that they'll be asking questions we can already infer the answer from. Previously, they've been alright, though :)

Mainly, I want to hear questions that discuss the competitive fighting game scene (not details, but rather, whether they were mindful about them), and I don't know if the press will ask anything like that.

Well, whoever still connected online can playing for long time if they want to until they get offline then you can't get back on.

That's how Halo 2 players kept playing the games more than 3 days after server shut down.

The room I was in died so it's over for me :(. Wonder how many days Smash and Mario Kart Wii can last lol.

If its like last year, Wed, and Sat.

Yeah I talked to my Nintendo rep at the Mario Kart event on Saturday and she told me Wednesday the 11th and Saturday the 14th. I don't know if she was guessing based on last year or if she really knew, but she did say she wasn't allowed to take a vacation that week, so it's definitely at least in the week of E3 like last year.

Cool beans. Still don't know if I want to put myself through hell for smash bros, but maybe. Depends on what time, but wednesday might be best (i'll take a long lunch break).

Thank you for the tidbits so I'm hopefully that it would be that schedule since it would work just fine for me.

I know some people had the idea that Impa might replace Sheik, but then that was totally toppled because Sheik was announced to return, BUUUUUUUUUUUUUT...

Now that Impa has been announced as a major part of Hyrule warriors (possibly even playable), I wonder if Impa still has a chance as a zelda newcomer.

Probably one of my favorite zelda additions in a long time. I love her character design.

What is the DR plan?
Is there other place besides the irc channel where we can talk? (also could someone let me know the irc channel so I can save it for later)

I will be working so I depend on you guys for information! lol

I'll just be on twitter.
@geogaither

I'll follow you guys, too.

If Impa were to be playable, I think they'd still have a lot to go from in terms of making her work as a character, and to differentiate her from Sheik.

Her lithe silhouette and weird proportions make her stand out anyway, but I can imagine her move set taking advantage of that to make her moves visually striking and "ninja"-like. The Legend of Zelda has a whole range of usable items that could be incorporated, as well as adapting ninja/Sheikah elements and making them her own, like they did with Sheik.

Since she has radically different appearances in each game she shows up in, if she were playable, it does mean if she appears in the next Zelda game in her more "maid"-esque incarnation then it raises questions if her inclusion in Smash would just be a flavour of the month thing. But hey, Sheik came back twice and got reinvented (though I would say her popularity, and OoT 3D helped a bit), and this version Impa just got a second appearance, so why not.

I agree. If melee didn't exist, I don't know if we'd have sheik in smash bros. Sheik is special, in that, she's actually princess zelda, who would be in smash bros no matter what, but sheik was still a one-off for the zelda franchise.

haha, you think SmashGAF would answer good questions
it'd be "WHERE'S RIDLEY/KING K. ROOL"

I didn't say I wanted smashgaf to ASK the questions, lol. Asking about ridley, etc, are not great questions, at least not until a postmortem. I mean I don't know if the press will ask questions that many of the smash community find relevant to their interests. We'll see, though. I want really technical questions answered, questions about challenges they had, design decisions they made, what support for the game will be like after launch, etc.

So I wonder how many Pro Controllers will break because of invited players rage quitting or trying to SHFFL wave dash into shine.

Plus I'm sure we're getting Harada and Ono to represent the game since everyone else is a scrub.
Who needs people like Zhu and Fly Amanita when you can have two fighting game legends like Harada and Ono at the finals.

Whoever wins plays Sakurai and gets to flaunt that their fighting game is superior.

I bet Ono would upset and beat Harada and Sakurai and show how superior 2D and Anime fighters are.

It would be a good addition, but I honestly think Ghirahim is the better choice.

Apparently anyone can go to the invitational, not just E3 attendees. Was that previously announced? Maybe I missed it.

Is anyone here going to try and go? I actually live pretty close to the Nokia Theatre, but I really want to watch the Digital event in the morning, and not on a smartphone, since I know I'll be getting some beautiful Zelda HD footage. Plus, might be more fun to watch the stream and chat with NeoGAFers.

Boo, Vaati is superior pick.

We ain't getting another Zelda character other than Ganon but I want Vaati as an assist trophy and a potential future pick.

Minish Cap and Four Swords were great. Toon designs or bust.

Considering Olimar was revealed only 3 weeks before Brawl came out, I don't think we're going to know the full starting roster at E3. Since this game might not be released until late August (or even September), 2+ months without any character reveals is a pretty long drought. Regular character reveals right up until the game's release will help keep interest up.
