They could be doing more to explain how it's different from Blitz, but it's still kinda difficult to explain why those differences make the game more appealing. He also said in that Reddit AMA that people need to play it to understand what makes the game so powerful, and I can't disagree with that. It's ultimately going to be a free demo that has the power to really expand the audience for the game.

I'd like to see them do more single player playthroughs since that's how most people will likely be playing. I also think the game is MUCH easier to understand via single player than multiplayer - where things are a lot crazier. Take note of this feedback for tomorrow's livestream, Nick Chester! It's quite probable that their social media accounts lean more heavily in the Xbox direction. Alex Rigopulos explained why there is a perception that they favor Xbox:

Actually, Harmonix loves both the PlayStation and the Xbox--both platforms have a ton to offer, and we play both of them to death. We haven't intentionally favored the Xbox over the PlayStation, it's actually sort of been the other way around, meaning, Microsoft has gone out of their way to reach out to Harmonix for projects/partnerships of one kind or another, which has led to us doing a lot on the Xbox (particularly with Kinect). But we're eager to support the PlayStation as well (and the Amplitude project is one example of that). We have a long and positive history with Sony (they were our first publisher, after all), so we hope to be back on PlayStation soon!

This is totally right. There are probably a bunch of reasons why Amplitude and FreQuency didn't light the retail world on fire, but one of them is for sure the communication issue. It's not an easy game to communicate WHY it's fun, especially via something like a marketing spot on TV or in a magazine. We believe (and in fact, know, from reviews and player feedback) that once you play the game, that's when you're hooked.

Alex tells a story where Sony did early market tests on the game. In these tests, players were given a description of the game and shown some images. They were then asked to rate their purchase intent on a number scale. They then were given a controller to play the game, and asked the same thing. The purchase intent based on play, Sony told us, was the HIGHEST they had ever seen. The purchase intent based on the images and description? Literally the lowest.

In a world of downloadable games and downloadable "try it now" demos, it's actually easier than ever to get a game in front of someone so they can see what it's all about. In 2003, that wasn't the case. In fact, I was having a chat with Eran Egozy and Greg LoPiccolo the other day about the early days of the development of Amplitude and it dawned on me: I had NO GOD DAMNED CLUE why I ended up owning FreQuency. Like, what would make me pick that game up? The box art was pretty ugly, I wasn't particularly a huge fan of the soundtrack (although some of the artists totally appealed to me), and the screenshots literally told you nothing about the game. As it turned out, it was because the disc was apparently bundled in with the PS2 Network Adapter, which I had purchased. Once I played it, I was hooked, and it (and Amplitude) have become two of my favorite games.

IN ANY CASE: to your point -- I think we're going to try to crank out a "here's how you play" video. It may have already been done yesterday, but there's a lot going on over here, so I'm not sure where the production of that is at. GOOD IDEA, IS GOOD, THOUGH.

Yeah, sorry. Not ideal. But the $2 codes are what we have! They're relatively easy to add via a web browser; you'd be a maniac to try to do it via a PS4 or PS3 with a DualShock. Not bad on the Vita, though!

I would love BT to make a return appearance. I'm not sure he'd make it free for Harmonix to use though. Seems like a bigger name that would expect some compensation.

Us fans should probably tell him that we'd like to see him in the game for now. It couldn't hurt!

Now do they take the money when you pledge or only when the project is finished?

I would like to get the extra bonus DLC for the $35 tier. Do I just pledge $20 now and get grandfathered into the extra DLC or pledge $35 now or do it once it goes live around 5:30PM EST?

they only charge you when the kickstarter ends and they've met their goal
 
seems like this is going to reach the goal and I'm really happy to see such a awesome support from the gamers for this game and its even in very short time of kickstarter.
 
I think I'm being stupid, but does backing the game at $20 now get you those $20 DLC codes later, or do you have to increase the pledge to $35?

Cause if it's the former, that sounds really stupid to pass this up

Seems like you need to increase to $35, of which there are only 1000 spots.
 
Well, that's one way of getting interest. How've they got so many $2 codes?

I was expecting like, a $35ish one with game + digital soundtrack before the $70 loot tier., But I suppose you don't want to devalue that.

OK what should I do??? Pledge now $35 and get the extra DLC??? But if its only for 1000 spots, how can they grandfather in everyone else??

You gotta bump up to $35.

This is actually really slick and pretty shady at the same time. Its a way to get more people to buy in at $15 but still count as $35 towards the goal. They aren't giving you cash directly back but this is about as close as you can get.

I was an early bird special and didn't get the email. Dunno why they wouldn't send it to early bird folks, I would have bumped up to $35 just to help them get $20 closer to the goal, guess it doesn't matter either way because those 1000 are gonna go fast.

Launching Rock Band probably resulted in them generating many, many $2 "free song" codes for promotional reasons. Now is a good time to give them all away.

Yeah, now I'm not sure what it means. It could also mean that people who pledged 20$ before the change can get into the 35$ tier even if that tier is sold out as a thank you for backing early.
 
Fuck just pledged $20! First ever project that Im doing this for. Possibly only project as I dont like all the scams going on.

I swear if I dont get the extra DLC, gonna pull my pledge.
 
I just pledged 20 bucks (I was waiting for some PayPal money to show up on my account, but I forgot that Kickstarter uses Amazon. Oh well).

Either way, I hope I fall in the "before this change occurs". Either way, if they're saying that if I pledge 35 bucks they'll give me the game plus 20 bucks in PSN codes.. I'll increase my pledge to 35 if I'm not eligible.

It's literally 20 PSN Bucks for 15 dollars. That's ok.

I'm guessing DMPrince backed at a higher tier which explains the grandfathered bit, cause going in for $20 to get $20 back doesn't make sense
 
It's unfortunate that $15 tier for the cross buy codes is no longer available. That seemed like the perfect price for me to back the game. At $20, I'm not as sure.

Regardless, the odds are improving of this actually getting backed, so I guess I'll just buy it once it becomes available.

I'm reading this to mean, we're going to have a chunk of DLC we're going to charge $20 for (like a season pass) and this new $35 tier is going to get the game and that DLC.

I don't see why they would just give people money. It doesn't make any sense.

If you're still reading Nick, if the all the required money is pledged and the game is made, will there be a demo near the games launch? Seems like a good opportunity to get people to try one song out and maybe get more people buying who didn't contribute towards the Kickstarter.
 
I was in the $70 tier then backed to $100 tier and got the email

Hopefully it means I got grandfathered in?

I'll stick with my pledge either way though :\

If you backed above that level, your email would have this line. I think that is pretty clear what it means.
