Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

I was on the fence about supporting this kickstarter but it looks like they have a shot, so I'm in. I loved the first two games even though I was pretty terrible at them.
Not to be rude but I don't understand posts like this. Why only pledge when you think it's going to happen? You were never going to get charged if it doesn't meet the goal.

This is totally right. There are probably a bunch of reasons why Amplitude and FreQuency didn't light the retail world on fire, but one of them is for sure the communication issue. It's not an easy game to communicate WHY it's fun, especially via something like a marketing spot on TV or in a magazine. We believe (and in fact, know, from reviews and player feedback) that once you play the game, that's when you're hooked.

Alex tells a story where Sony did early market tests on the game. In these tests, players were given a description of the game and shown some images. They were then asked to rate their purchase intent on a number scale. They then were given a controller to play the game, and asked the same thing. The purchase intent based on play, Sony told us, was the HIGHEST they had ever seen. The purchase intent based on the images and description? Literally the lowest.

In a world of downloadable games and downloadable "try it now" demos, it's actually easier than ever to get a game in front of someone so they can see what it's all about. In 2003, that wasn't the case. In fact, I was having a chat with Eran Egozy and Greg LoPiccolo the other day about the early days of the development of Amplitude and it dawned on me: I had NO GOD DAMNED CLUE why I ended up owning FreQuency. Like, what would make me pick that game up? The box art was pretty ugly, I wasn't particularly a huge fan of the soundtrack (although some of the artists totally appealed to me), and the screenshots literally told you nothing about the game. As it turned out, it was because the disc was apparently bundled in with the PS2 Network Adapter, which I had purchased. Once I played it, I was hooked, and it (and Amplitude) have become two of my favorite games.

IN ANY CASE: to your point -- I think we're going to try to crank out a "here's how you play" video. It may have already been done yesterday, but there's a lot going on over here, so I'm not sure where the production of that is at. GOOD IDEA, IS GOOD, THOUGH.

Thats a cool story!
Yeah I think this is primetime for a new iteration of the series. Those games were way ahead of their time in music appeal, we're at the start of a new generation which undoubtedly gives means to get to consumers easier, and this can be used to ironically ride on the success from the RB/GH games

Got to swoop in to the $15 tier as someone pulled out. Delighted.

Will up to the $40 in the closing hours if it looks like it needs it.

i feel that staying at $40 isn't really worth it

i get the game 2 weeks early but it costs me (effectively) 25 more dollars for that?

sounds like a bad deal

Sure enough, it was a demo of Freq that hooked me, with the Fear Factory track. I went out and got a PS2 for that game.
Yep the Amplitude demo, that came with the official Playstation magazine, is what got me.

You really do have to play it to really understand, even a good video might not be enough.

I love Amp so much I bought P.O.D's limited edition CD which included one of their tracks in this exclusive Amplitude promo disc.

Dont remember if the trach made it to the final game but it was the fist or 2nd time I bought an actual disk and only to play Amplitude lol. (Playable on Death is a great album btw)

That's like asking why do some people dislike mayonnaise. Different people have different trigger points. I just feel like I'm wasting my time if I support something that doesn't stand a chance.

Its time to play everyone's favorite game "its a video game forum so i'm going to make a bad analogy"

regardless, get in on this shit. especially with the new tier

pledged at the 35 dollar tier but kept my 40 dollar pledge

Well not really because I can understand that some people might not like the taste of mayonnaise. On the other hand it seems strange to me not to chip in to a Kickstarter because it hasn't met its goal, when chipping in to the Kickstarter would literally help it meet that goal. But whatever, everyone's got their things I guess.

My only major complaint is that both the ps3 and ps4 controllers are unsuitable for this type of game. The R2 triggers have too much throw and you won't be able to keep up on the hard mode version of these tracks. The ps2 controller was perfect for this because the R2 trigger was just like R1. This is a legit issue for me.

I played with the face buttons. You can also use a PS2~>PS3 adapter, probably.

Yeah. That is an issue. I vastly preferred the L1/R1/R2 control scheme to any other that was there. But I guess I could get used to it.

I did, but the wording in that e-mail is so confusing that I'm not sure what to understand.

From what I understood from that email, here's the thing:

There's a "new" 35 tier, limited to 1000, to bring in more donations. That new tier is the game AND 20 dollars worth of "DLC codes" for PSN.

If you pledged more than 35 dollars (so, let's say, anything above the 40 bucks pledge) BEFORE today, you were grandfathered in the "DLC codes", so you wouldn't be pissed that a tier below yours got something that you wouldn't have access to. (If you received the email, that is).

However, the 40 dollar tier (and other tiers more expensive than that) is unlimited, and they can't give the DLC to everybody that pledges for 40 bucks (or more) from now on - the "DLC codes" are limited.

That's what I gathered from all this mess.

I just assume it's someone who's so perfectly balanced on the fence that the smallest thing like knowing the project is going to succeed is enough to sway them to donate or not.

Thanks for that, drizzle. :D

Yep, my main concern too

Just play with L1, R1 and Circle, that should mostly solve the problem.

I am confused. What does "$20 worth of DLC codes" mean?

$20 PSN money? Codes for just random PSN games? Codes specifically for new songs in Amplitude?
