Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I like the 'get on it and ride it' part, but it doesn't work without 'hype train' included first.

Went with the year one. I like how plain and kinda cynical it and the Ridley still ones are. I don't get the fire and ice thing. I'm not familiar with whatever it's referencing.

Yeah, that was what I wanted, but when I saw no hype train reference, I had to vote against it :(

Not all of us are up all night.

Exactly.

Honestly, I would like to use Ridley in title only if he got confirmed to be playable character. Like this, OT9: Ridley isn't big enough to stay out of the game
Instead of OT9, a mod could change the title of the next OT, should Ridley be announced as a playable character in the next ND. If he isn't announced, then I don't think he is in the game tbh.

You're all deciding on the next thread title already? How many more posts do we need for this thread?
We need 20,000 I think, have about 18k. I don't know why we're starting this early, but I guess the presumption is that posts will pour in faster as people get hyped up for e3?

Anyone else worried the game will dissapoint? I hope it comes with a demo at least cause this is one game I know for a fact I'd want to buy digitally.

If I buy a cart, I can get rid of it if it does dissapoint and I don't want it anymore. If I go digital and it sucks, I'm stuck with it.

Decisions....

about 2000 posts to go.

I don't know. To be honest, I don't like the title change unless it's needed to be. Depend on the situation, we will see what we can do for OT9.

I think the idea is to already have one ready to go, in case post counts randomly surge for some reason.

Like he said.

I don't see it spiking any time soon considering that they're probably saving everything for E3.

Yeah, but you never know. Better to be safe than sorry, yeah? Like what if tomorrow's update is Ridley as a stage hazard or another major trophy/AT reveal/deconfirm (are there any left?)

Or what if we randomly get another leak for E3?

Cool Picture of the day. I noticed this about megaman back at E3 last year. His buster arm changes depending on which direction he's facing. It's a really neat detail that matches up with his original sprite.

Watch the developer direct and pay attention to his buster arm. It's neat to watch it transform as he changes directions. It has an animation and everything. The attention to detail in this game is insane.

This is probably why we never saw mirroring in screenshots really. It sounds like a lot of work has gone into each character to make them mirror naturally. It isn't just straight mirroring like a typical fighting game.

I also hope this means they DON'T mirror sword users. There's no animation that could make it more fluid. They would outright change sword hands. If they didn't, characters like link would be unable to hold his shield forward.

I think Ridley would deserve a title change, if he being announced, but hey, that will be up to you.
Anyone else worried the game will disappoint?
Nope. A Smash Bros. title never disappointed me, I have no reasons to believe this will be the first time.

That's true, and I hardly doubt that I will ever being disappointed by the game itself.

So I think it's pretty obvious at this point, but we're probably gonna get one CG trailer for new characters per franchise. What I mean is Mario got the Rosalina trailer and Pokemon both get Charizard and Greninja, and to show Charizard is solo. So that's probably it for Mario and Pokemon newcomers.

Even the weakest entry (imo), Brawl, got hundreds of play hours from me, and this looks better than Brawl, so I'm not worried.

I would've guessed one trailer per newcomer. With Charizard thrown in because he got changed into a solo character since Pokemon Trainer.

But Mewtwo aint a newcomer!

They don't mirror sword fighters. They only mirror symmetrical fighters, where the hand they use for combat doesn't matter. Neorice pointed it out earlier. Link always has his sword in his left hand. Marth always has it in his right. Little mac always punches with the same hands no matter what direction he's facing.

They mirror who can be mirrored, and don't mirror the ones who shouldn't be. That's a huge deal, so good on them!

It is not only a way to create easy sprites, if also has to other benefits to simply mirror a character:
First is the possibility of more visual interesting stances and animations. Something what looks great from the front, can look strange or unrecognizable from the back. The best example would be Greninja stance, which would not look as good from behind. You would need to create special sprites or animations to have both look great.

But the second point is much more important. If a character would look different from behind or hide animations with his back, those players would have an advantage. Imagine that in Street Fighter IV the second player, which character would stand with his back to the camera, would have two short and fast jabs. One at an angle and the other straight forwards. The first player has only seconds to decide, if he blocks low or high. But since most of the character animation is behind his back, the player has a much harder time to read the attack. But the other player can ride his much more easier. If you would have two different animation for the front and the back, your opponent and you have to learn double the animations to read the attacks of the players.
That's why in Street Fighter IV, even so it is in 3D, the fighters are still mirrored. You can have great looking animation, keep the learning of your opponents move simple and be sure, that the match is fair for both sides.

In Smash Bothers this isn't needed as much, since there is only one kind of defense and many animations are very flashy especially for characters with weapons. I guess, that's why mainly characters without weapons and with big bodies or width stances, got those mirrored animations.
Add to all this the smaller screen in the 3DS and it's clear why Sakurai would aim for simpler visibility for the player.

True.

Wait did we actually get an accurate leak last year?

Although I absolutely LOVE Bowser's new stance, I gotta admit I still haven't gotten used to it. Every time I see him standing upright it slightly blows my mind a little. But I will say its been needed for quite some time...never understood why he was hunched over in the last games and more importantly why his run animation was so lazily done.

I totally agree, bowsers run was probably the worst run animation in the game. Followed by the always hilarious Brawl Ganondorf run.

Yea, every time I see it, it just gives me a surprised feeling a bit. I absolutely love his new look. And every time I see it in motion, it gives me good feelings inside lol. I hope he plays good as much as he looks good. Didn't Sakurai say something about Bowser feeling good? I hope that statement is true.

I just tried it out in Brawl and giggled like a little girl.
