Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

I didn't back it myself and won't. Just find that "early bird" tier a bit gross. Either your game's $15 or it's $20, and punishing fans of the game because they weren't on the internet at the right time is a bit crap of them really.

I'm with you. If I "miss out" on the $15 tier, there's no way I'm in for the $20 one. It's principle for me. So they don't get my money.

Do you get, like, really mad every year around Black Friday?

I certainly don't buy anything that had a better BF price I missed out on. I can wait till it hits that price again.

It's obviously had a high number of VERY big backers in the last couple of days which is really pushing the average up. This Kickstarter hasn't suddenly taken off thanks to people buying the game, it's a small number of people making very large contributions - I wonder how close they are to Harmonix.

This post, and then reading those tagged posts.

Beautiful.

Thank goodness Kickstarter is all about people who want to back projects they're interested in then!

I guess you must REALLY hate limited editions that you couldn't get because you weren't at the store at the right time, and you also curse those developers as well! Curse those people who were there before me! Curses!

Hah, nah, it's a different thing. Black Friday doesn't just turn up completely unannounced, offering people who happen to be there a discount that no one else is entitled to.

I dunno, I don't think I'm being that weird for thinking it's a bit of a crap way to treat fans of the franchise. I can see why they did it, but I won't ever like it.
It just rewards those first "few" people who stumble upon the Kickstarter and start spreading the word around. There's nothing really wrong in that. It's just 5$, try to put it in perspective.

This is a project I'm interested in, but like anything else that interested isn't going to overcome the bad taste left in my mouth from methods like this. I'm sure it benefits them overall.

Those are announced well ahead of time and available for preorder as a general rule. This is being limited for arbitrary reasons which rubs some of us the wrong way.

There's nothing wrong with that for you. For myself and many others that rubs us the wrong way and causes us to simply not back such projects. The $$ amount isn't the point. $5 or $500.

Just backed it with $100.

I don't even have a PS4 or plan on getting one for a long time, if ever, and I just sold my PS3, but I like Harmonix and want to see them make this passion project.

These guys seem like the nicest bunch of developers.

Making it real hard to keep my no video game kickstarter policy.

It'll make it, no problem. If it doesn't make it of its own accord then it will certainly get close enough for someone at Harmonix to push it over the line.
I'm pretty sure that's against Kickstarter's rules. It would be pretty noticeable if suddenly there were tons of huge pledges.

But it's not for arbitrary reasons.

But the amount IS the point. It's silly to get so worked up because of a few dollars.

The $15 early bird backer tier is just that, a special $5 discount for early backers, it's not like they were like "let's raise the price to $20!", $20 was most likely their base price, and they just gave a special discount to those who backed them first. This is not uncommon practice on Kickstarter where the funding time is limited.

O.T. 640k!

I know this has been said before, but going for the $20 is essentially pre-ordering the game. Does that help?

Fortunately you guys are a very small minority, the average pledge per backer is reaching $70. If every backer felt wronged for missing out on that 5 buck this project would never have a chance of succeeding.

For realz.

Of course it benefits them, it benefits everyone because it means more money towards a KS that is still struggling to make it.

$86320-$64740= $21580 they wouldn't have right now if everyone who donated at $20 got in at $15. How exactly is that "arbitrary"?

I'm pretty sure the guy you quoted is well-aware of all that. Doesn't mean he likes it. Honestly, I'm not too fond of it either. As he said, when it comes to things like limited editions or even outside of video games with things like concert ticket sales, the consumer is told in advance when these are going to be. With Kickstarter, though, it's usually just BAM there it is. If you're one of the few to get in early, congrats. If not, well, please pay more -- and again, "more" meaning "more than the sale price" not "more than the regular price", I know. But it's still not cool knowing that you're going to have to pay more when others get to pay less just because they happened to be lucky. You can say, "Well that's just the way it is," but that doesn't mean people are just supposed to accept it. They're not obligated to pay and it's understandable that they're left with a sour taste in their mouth. And this is coming from someone who wants to see this backed very badly and has donated toward it.

"Those" people are then not interested enough in the game if they don't want to fund it at the normal price just because they're upset that early backers got a $5.00 discount. If you cheap out because of $5.00, then so be it, you aren't part of the crowd that will get this project off its feet, and whether or not you decide to purchase it later @ $20+ so be it as well.

I backed with $35, I've never even played frequency or amplitude let alone heard of them until now. It just reminds me of WipeOut HD.

If you are backing a Kickstarter at all then you are part of the process of getting it off of its feet, are you not? So why not $15? Those $15 went within about the first two hours. Not really anytime at all in any fairness.

This is looking promising, I keep checking and it looks like we're in with a chance here. I'll be so happy if it happens. :)

Liek guitar hero, this is the type of game that needs to be up in retail store kiosks for people to play. Guitar Hero boomed when that started occuring and people saw how fun it was to pick up and play.

God, please get funded. If this is a game you'd buy when it comes out, there's no harm in putting in 20 bucks now to nab yourself a cross-buy code.

I'll buy it for $20 if/when it comes out, because it's not the money that's the issue. I'm not going to support the Kickstarter for that amount though because I don't agree with the way it's handled, is all.

Holy shit, it's risen about $45k since I last checked about 10 hours ago! Really makes a difference when you Americans are out of bed. I guess Harmonix are pulling in some big favours from rich friends, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the money is coming internally from them as well.

LOL HARMONIX AMIRITE!!!

Seriously, they're a business, they're supposed to make money, why are we grudging them the chance to make money? If someone wants to ask $15 for an early bird tier, let them. It's their Kickstarter.

The initial tiers really aren't intrusive beyond the first day. You'll know exactly where everything is from previous kickstarters without even looking. The only people bothered by initial tiers are the people that set out to notice them. Everyone else can just get on with life.

Also, the $15 tier is for early notoriety and some internet stuff. It has LITERALLY NOTHING to do with the final price of the game. There is no relation whatsoever.

Am I crazy for wanting to go for the $100 tier instead of 70 just because I want the ps2 case?

I'm worse, I want to go for the $200 tier just for the vinyl. I'm currently at $100 but literally the only things I *actually* want are the game and the vinyl, and I might just jump at the $200 tier :p

Woah, what happened? I checked in like, a day or two ago and it was slightly over 50% funded, and now we're nearly there!

Insomniac gave it a boost and promoted it, a great list of artists was revealed, new tier, Harmonix did more promotion, etc. It was nice :)

Whoah! So I've been tracking this today, it went up 3k in 3 hours this morning, tracking at 1k per hour, so I was thinking if that kept pace we'd be looking around only 700k by the deadline. But now I see it jumped 10k in just the past hour! What!?

For realz.

I suppose. But had they not done that I know I'd have been in for this KS at a higher tier than $20 anyways. But just that option being there steers me away. *shrugs*

Had they not done that and everyone got it at $15 they would have over 20k less than they have right now. Were you going to donate 20k?
