What the...? Wii U Music?
If true, then...no one wants that. It makes absolutely no sense. Then again, Nintendo.
I agree. I want it to be someone who has played competitively at least.
I assure you this is a case of mistaken identity.

US only OF COURSE
hopefully it's someone actually deserving and not some youtube celebrity or random kid
Reminds me of that flipnote song on how to draw mario lol.
They're not going to pick a competitive player for the people's E3 spot.
Come on, guys. I feel like you set up situations where if Nintendo doesn't do the clearly improbable thing you want, you can bawk about how dumb they're being.
I don't really see the point. If it's anyone competitive, why not just invite them to start with? If it's anyone else, do you really want to see their spirits crushed like that? Maybe if it's a really sympathetic kid some top players would let them have the win.
I can totally see M2K jv 5 stocking a dying 6 year old for some reason. This is probably what's going to happen, and this is probably how they're also going to choose the person too.
Good point though. You guys realize you need to be older than 18 to enter? SO the winner won't be a kid

Probably in part because part of the prize are plane tickets, and that expense goes up much more for international flights.I blame Triforce
Kappa
replace random kid with random dude I guess, also lol at anyone outside US/Canada not being allowed to enter

According to the rules, there's a 15 second time limit on vids. Is that a Instagram thing? Or is it just a restriction Nintendo is making themselves? Because, either way, it sucks. My epic heel promo needs 10 minutes, dammit.
It's a reference to Kirby's Adventure.
You're under the assumption that these players will be unstoppable after only a day of playing a new game with a tweaked Brawl framework. Most of the players are meleers aren't they?

You assume that pro players are only good at Melee and aren't just good gamers in general. You assume poorly.

I second this.I can almost guarantee that if I had played smash 4 for a full week, i'd still lose against a pro melee player's first time playing. I think a lot of people would be the same. They understand concepts like spacing, playing mindgames, and are already familiar with existing character's movesets, even if they are tweaked, and would thoroughly destroy a casual smash bros player with even months of experience.
...you are making me feel old.I... love it, but I feel that it would be more appropriate if it were a flipnote update of some sort.
I assume you're referencing this:

A lot of fighting game strategies depend on the physics of the game, frames, stun etc. I assume highly.

Hit Stun slider to become a thing! We can finally go back to Smash 64!
Well the other day at GOML some pro melee players decided to enter the Brawl tournament (Mango and Hungrybox). They did pretty good considering they play Melee more than any other game.
At a high level, yes. Against someone who doesn't even know BASIC fighting game concepts, they'll win every time.
Give a pro fighting game player a BRAND NEW fighting game, even one not in their expertise, and they'll destroy a casual player with even a modicum of experience.
It's the same as having a pro soccer player play basketball against a chubby fat kid. Even if he isn't a great shot, his athleticism already puts him at an advantage.
Only in this case there is no guarantee the winner of the contest to face one of them will be the equivalent in quality to a fat chubby kid. Most over 18 year olds still gaming in addition to having an interest in Nintendo are probably reasonably decent at video games.

YUP! That's what i'm hoping. I hope we get an 'athlete' as the winner. That's all I want. I'd absolutely LOVE it if the contest winner WON the 'bonus' match. My concern is that the winner WILL be the equivalent of the 'fat chubby kid' vs 'michael jordan.' I want a good fight. Good fights are way more fun to watch than one-sided fights.

Once again, "decent" ain't gonna cut it against a pro. Pros just have a better understanding of some the the most basic stuff, such as spacing, positioning, mindgames, etc.
Plus, the winner is going to already have had eight games or something like that to get a feel for things, which would be a definite advantage for any player regardless of skill.I love how you're saying the skill someone has in an older Smash game won't transfer over to Smash 4. Obviously they won't have it "mastered", but to say they will be on an equal playing field is ridiculous.
Maybe the player won't have to play in front of the audience. Maybe it's more like the winner gets to chill with the invited players and try out Smash 4, that kind of thing.I can almost hear the audience chanting "4 stock! 4 stock!". Whoever wins wont want to play games never again.
Unless they choose someone that has experience with fighting games too. In which case you may as well just add a 17th invitation.
That's all true, but the Pro Player would go in knowing that this game isn't going to be Melee and adjust accordingly.Which has to be altered to each game, if you fool around trying to do stuff you did in Melee that you did in Smash 64 you will get fucked up. If you do stuff that you tried to do in Melee in Brawl, you will get fucked up. My friend was a beast with Luigi in Melee and had to drop him in Brawl. Hell Sakurai screwed with edge guarding in this game, so there goes a big chunk of competitive strategy right there, if they fool around thinking they can do that they could end up losing a stock if they don't do their research with all the physics.
Alright, so I've decided tomorrow will be a new stage shown off. A Starfox stage for the WiiU.
Also, hello SmashGAF. I'm new, please don't hurt me.
Quick recap of myself for you to form opinions on.
I would love to see Wonder Red playable. I expect 48-49 characters. I primarily played as Kirby, Luigi, and Dedede in each smash game.
This was a hopeful (and totally improbable) roster of mine I made a few weeks back.

Yes, I actually believe that Sega and Nintendo are buddies enough to let another Sonic character in.
