Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

That's what, $350k for online multiplayer -- and that's only part of the budget? I know videogames are expensive, but that seems really high... I would have figured it would have been 100-200k or something. Do they need to hire 3-4 more engineers for that? That ends up coming out to what, half of the regular game's budget?

Eh, I shouldn't worry. If they hit it, that's cool, and if they don't, we can all still FreQ the hell out.

So they said that there's still online multi in the 750,000 game we're def getting.

But the asynchronous 4 player multi is the stretch?

Can someone explain that further for me, thanks :)

To be honest, I don't really give a shit about online multiplayer in a rhythm game.

Wish the extra money was used to get more licensed songs.

Writing netcode is expensive and difficult.

Looks like he's beating that dog to death.

Shouldn't have even put up a stretch goal now you gave some fuel. Instead of congrats on getting it funded now all I read about is not getting the milk with the cookie too.

Hmxhenry: Do NOT anticipate VITA early on as a stretch goal. It's possible, but not likely. It would be VERY expensive.

That's what I thought. Harmonix has never made a Vita game, and I'm assuming they'd basically have to spend money porting their PS3/4 engine down to run on a Vita.

Woohoo, it made it! Fuck yeah, love Frequency.

I'd still like to see it on Vita as well someday, so hopefully it continues to perform well following the game's launch.

I'm not questioning that at all... but I've seen other projects add online functionality and while it's a pain in the ass to get right, it didn't cost half a million dollars (if we're going with the same ratio of funding for the main project). I think part of it is that if it is that expensive, I think the money would be better off used funding more tracks or a Vita port.

Interestingly enough, they have Dave Lang addressing this on stream right now... but it's Dave Lang. :V

I really wish the first stretch goal was a Vita version but you will be able to remote play on it atleast.

Im happy this shit got funded though. I will admit I was one who thought this had no chance. once I saw that there might be some hope, I chipped in. Thanx GAF for coming through though. Im sure we did help this project some what with word of mouth in this forum.

Yeah, that stretch goal is unreasonable and a mistake, if they had asked for 925k people might be more inclined to try... if it really does cost that much to add online 1v1 multi-player then they should have put a different stretch goal.

Just out of curiosity, have they confirmed that remixing will be a feature in the game as it stands right now? I spent just as much time remixing songs as I did playing the songs themselves, and I certainly hope that's a shoe in as I care about it more than I do multiplayer. I honestly can't remember if that's been discussed or not.

People are underestimating the amount of art assets that would need to be radically altered to get their vision of this game to run on a Vita. They are obviously shooting for a pretty detailed look. It's not just about the engine, it's about the performance.
