Dude, the world ultimately is practical and pragmatic.

In real world terms, this IS a price drop.

Sure, technically speaking its not, but people don't get caught up in the details.

When they see a $ sign on a product and a lower number after it, for all intents and purposes, its a price drop.

No one even acknowledges the concessions that were made. Plus, in this case, I doubt many would even care.

It's a different sku, yes, but still considered to be a price reduction considering a lot of people could give two shits about kinect.

This might move the needle a bit for MS, but I don't expect it to be a miracle worker. The best I think they can hope for is to close the gap in U.S. sales a bit over the next year.

I would think the only way a retailer like that in Germany would accept more XB1 stock from MS is if they can price it lower than the already not-selling 399 euro XB1 with kinects and MS eats the additional mark down

So like a kinectless XB1 for 299 euro in Germany [or at least 349 euro] assuming MS values getting some marketshare at all in Germany

If the price is cheaper then it is a price drop. Don't try to spin it or do pre-emptive damage control.

Did they remove anything from PS3? Last time I checked it still shipped with Bluray drive and a controller. So that was a proper price drop. This is just a cheaper SKU, not the same 500$ SKU.

I noticed a few hours after the announcement, I got an email from Walmart titled "Xbox 1 now $399". They don't mention Kinect in the title because nobody gives a fuck about Kinect.

Yes, some people keep saying MS will beat Sony like it's some predetermined fact. I honestly don't understand why. The PS2 went from dominating NA to having the PS3 get manhandled by the 360. So much like the PS2, the 360 having a huge install base doesn't necessarily mean much for the X1

If the price drop doesn't work, it will just be another wait for SO, wait for QB, wait for Halo, etc (insert chalkboard).

Our Target is been selling more Xbox in the last few visits that I've been in.
They had a few of both, next day 1 less PS4 and all Xbox gone. Today the Xbox were still gone and 2 more PS4 showed up.

It's certainly brought a positive buzz to the console.

Anecdotal: Guy at my Gamestop, Seekonk Mass, said, this should help. Also that, there were some people, pissed at Microsoft, but price was the biggest factor in the purchases at that particular store.

Calling it a price drop is factually inaccurate, and MS should have offered a Kinectless SKU from the get go. They stuck to their guns for awhile but it probably cost them the generation.

Product placement is when you see iPads in a movie or TV show.

A new SKU (which is what this is) has always been referred to as a price drop.

So, does this new $399 SKU come with a Kinect like that $499 SKU? I mean if it's a price drop, it should have all the components as the original SKU.

The only one that benefits in calling this a "price drop" is Microsoft. It's a nice little marketing spin when you think about it.

For the record, the TF Bundle was a price drop.
