Ughhhhhh.....

"Marvel is zeroing in on a new filmmaker, but is not yet in negotiations with one yet, Variety can confirm."

Sounds like.... we're getting a director for hire. Yup. :(

Ya, and it's going to be felt. Man, I hope they at least get someone with the talent to bring a good performance out of Douglas/Wilson/Rudd. The pieces are still there at least =(

THey've made a few mediocre films but at least those had a plot and action scenes that were followable, lumping them in with tranformers is the kind of hyperbole that the thread doesn't really need.

Also you should watch cap 2, it's easily top 3 mcu films and I would go as far as to put it at number 1.
It's not really hyperbole. Transformers try and be simple action movies and clearly that works for a lot of people as shown by their success. That doesn't mean they're good movies in my eyes but they achieve what they're trying to do. It's the equivalent of airport novels or whatever. The other Marvel movies don't have much of a plot to speak of either but I'd say they're just as dumb and for pretty much the same audience.

Total creative freedom can be a bad thing though.

They were given control of how the movie looked and sounded.

I am just saying Marvel was 100% behind Wright from the getgo to the point of they changed who was originally in the Avengers.

You're right, they were given a modicum of control and it turned out decently for the Russos and very well for shane Black. Not knocking that. but that they turned the reins over in those cases doesn't automatically mean they were being equitable wrt to Wright. honestly? I bet they were very fair to him, but refused to bend on how closely linked Ant-Man would be to the rest of the franchise. Which sucks on one hand, because a standalone ant-man one-off from Wright sounds cool. And at the same time it makes complete sense, because the seriality of the MCU is one of its drawing factors and the reason it's so much better than the ASM universe and the X-Men universe (and likely the Batman/Superman/DC universe).

Basically all I'm trying to say is this: it's a bummer on both sides because Marvel clearly gave Wright a fairly wide berth, and because Wright assisted in getting the entire MCU going (Feige's said his vision for Ant-Man as instrumental in sussing out how to do the entire franchise). Personally, I'm more sympathetic for Wright, the man with a passion project and an artist I admire, than the humongous company that had to squeeze him out.

Thor 1 is worse than the first Transformers; TF is loud and dumb and shiny and empty but at least it's not flat and cardboard. And Cap 1 and IM2 suck, though not as bad as the Transformers sequels. other than that every Marvel movie is at least functional, yeah.

Did anybody really care about this movie 4 hours ago?
Plenty of people, mostly for Wright who has made some of the funniest and most heartfelt and energetic films of the 21st century

The word from people on the crew is Wright got booted for being REALLY behind schedule and being ineffective at righting the ship and getting it back on track. Production has been bleeding money for a month and Marvel got fed up with him and they lost their confidence in his ability to manage a production of this size.

From the thread about this on reddit. Grain of salt of course, but it's plausible.

Gotta call bullshit. Scott Pilgrim was a $90m film. Wright isn't a noobie to big budgets.

They would be foolish to scrap the script if they still want to release this next year. I'm hopeful they'll at least keep it.

Welp, fuck that. Don't care about this movie at all now. Edgar Wright was literally the only reason I would've made an effort to see it.

Edgar Wright was hired to direct Ant-Man almost ten years ago... that's a long ass wait to be told that it's not happening.

Shitty week in movie news indeed.

They're a not great source.

Stick with THR/Variety if you can. Honestly, the difference between visiting ComicBookMovie and visiting NeoGAF itself is negligible.

Yeah, I read ComicBookMovie a lot too because they have lots of contributors which basically just puts all the interesting news all over the net in one place, but you gotta be careful of what they're sourcing.

They're a better aggregator than, say, COSMICBookMovie, which is one of the worst places to get ANY information from.

That one extra S makes a huge difference :)

I think it's the kind of situation where if the execs perceived themselves to be taking a "leap of faith", then Wright falling behind would justify their insecurities and help motivate the decision to take a step back and rethink their audacity.

They can call it whatever they want, but Marvel's probably been getting cold feet for a while now, and is using a rather small transgression (like a missed deadline) as evidence to justify a parting of the ways.

Well...i still have xmen at least. Hearing that's really good and we got a sequel from
Singer

I just hope this doesn't affect wright's career. Losing such a high profile project would surely hurt rep with studios right? I want to see him tackle something that would give him big success and future projects

We are only 14% done with the 21st century so why don't we wait a few decades before we start naming names like that.

You guys are really making this guy out to be Movie Jesus when all he did was direct a bunch of British drinking movies. You guys are making me sick. Literally NOBODY is talking about Ant-Man yesterday now all of a sudden he is the fucking crown jewel to the Marvel Kingdom. As if, they have PAUL RUDD as the lead in this shitfest yeah? The only thing that would make that movie watchable is and always will be Michael Douglas.

To be honest, I lost interest in the MCU before Avengers even came out. Bored to tears with everything they're doing.
I'll still probably see all their movies in the theater tho.
