I'm no Box Office guru but what does Memorial Day typically mean for early screenings like this? I'm assuming Thursday ticket sales would not be that high because it's a long weekend so more people would be waiting for that.

So good news/bad news? Guess we just have to wait for the full weekend.

It's good but hard to extrapolate what it means. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did 8.7 million for example but its screenings started at 8PM instead of 10PM like X-Men which allowed for another round of showings. Godzilla did 9.3 million starting at 7PM.

Also, the X-Men franchise is one of the most rush heavy of the comic book franchises so it might not have as big of a jump as some of those other franchises. It's still a good sign for at least a 90 million 3 day though and close to 110 million 4 day, but this could still breakout big time and we won't know it yet based on these numbers.

The only good use of 3D was in the opening credits, imo.

Future action scenes needed more teamwork. You have Hotspot and Iceman: Flash freeze anyone?

Going to see this tonight and I'm pretty optimistic after all the positive buzz.

Quick question for people who have seen it, what trailers were shown before the movie?

The portal girl Blink definitely deserves MVP award. What a team player.

Edge of Tomorrow, Expendables 3, Guardians of the Galaxy

Earth to Echo, 22 Jump Street, Lucy, The Rover, Let's Be Cops. It's like they played the wrong trailer files before the movie.

hows the 3D?

This might be one of the few movies that wasn't some post process cash grab 3D this year.

But i've spend too much going to 3D IMAX/RPX shit this year already :/

From what I'm reading the only compliment about the 3D is that it does not look bad (since it was shot natively). But does it make the experience better or even different? Nope.

Lucy

Guardians of the Galaxy
Edge of Tomorrow
Sex Tape
Expendables 3

Blink powers spoilers

That sequence with her creating portals ot launch Colossus at one of the Sentinels was fucking straight out of Portal. I was sitting there thinking "Now you're thinking with portals

Hahaha, about that scene:

I was also thinking Portal. Speedy thing goes in, speedy thing goes out. *BOOM*

Has it been discussed - considering the language and violence on display - that it's pretty astounding this managed to swing a 12A?

You're allowed two fucks in a 12A rating, as long as they're not used in a sexual context.

Regarding the violence:
There's hardly any blood, and much of it falls under "fantasy violence".

I certainly thought it was pushing it for a 12A rating, not that I cared too much... When I was 12 I saw things that were just as violent in films. Let us not forget how voilent FotR was before the 12A rating was introduced.

I was terribly offended by the Wolverine scene:

Wolverine gets to show off his butt by wearing no underwear after sex. But noooo, his lady friend put underwear back on before sleeping! Not fair. =P

Fun fact: they both are/were in that serial killer show "The Following". Ashmore is (still) playing one of the FBI agents whereas Canto was playing one half of the young serial killers. I'm guessing Ashmore rec'd Canto to the casting director.

Basically my reaction once the credits scene ended. Loved it to bits.

I'm probably going to watch this at the cinema tomorrow. I have yet to see First Class though, will I miss anything or am I good?

Do I need to watch First Class first?

You'll miss some details, like why Professor X / Magneto / Mystique used to be close friends, and what some of them are angry about, but you should still be able to enjoy it if you like the X-Men in general.

Probably my favorite blockbuster of the year. I really liked The Winter Soldier, but the ensemble on display here is too good. Besides Jennifer Lawrence that is...

Future action scenes were awesome, Blink's powers are so fun to watch. And of course, like everyone is saying, Quicksilver steals the show.

Bring on Apocalypse!

I cried tears of joy. No joke. I'm not telling a fib. Tears in my eyes. Astonishing experience that handled all of the characters in what I thought was a genius manner.

This film was a showcase for JLaw, Hoult, Fassbender, McAvoy, Peters, and Jackman. Astonishing.

Bryan Singer ran with what Matthew Vaughn left him and fixed the wrong-headed motivation that X3 left that trilogy the way it was.

Amazing movie. It was very touching. It makes up for the mishandling of the X-Men franchise since X2 big time.

I hope Singer returns for Apocalypse

edit- I have to apologize for bashing Quicksilver, he was fantastic. Definitely "Internet overreacts to Ledger as Joker"-material

man i was going to wait for DVD but everyone seems to be saying this is great. guess i gotta try to fit in a show this weekend

Is there anything I can watch/read before going so I can have some idea what's going on? I've heard from some of my friends that it's pretty difficult to follow unless you have some background knowledge.

Go see it, it's worth it.

I'm a reasonably discriminating comic book film fan, just like everyone else I hated X3 and all that, I still like 2 and First Class, and even 1 is not something I can really watch anymore without getting bored, I thought Days was fucking great, to me this is the X-men franchise's answer to the Avengers, a QUALITY superhero film with both heart and rousing action scenes.

If you've seen the other movies you'll be fine. You don't really need to see anything but the 4 main X-men films, and yes even seeing 3 helps, this movie doesn't ignore it as much as we all wish we could. Doesn't matter, movie is good.

Speaking of money.

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Could Hit $120 Million Over Holiday Weekend

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” is surging at the Friday box office with initial tracking suggesting it could hit between $36 million and $39 million in its first full day of release.

There’s a range of numbers out there, but some estimates suggest that the picture could hit $120 million over the four-day Memorial Day holiday. Others are more conservative, predicting a debut of roughly $105 million.

The fifth film in 20th Century Fox’s mutant heroes franchise is benefiting from strong reviews, Jennifer Lawrence’s higher profile following “The Hunger Games” and the return of Hugh Jackman to the X-fold after two solo adventures as Wolverine. Going into the weekend, analysts expected the film to north of $100 million over the holiday, with Fox downplaying expectations and projecting a bow in the $95 million to $100 million range.

Just got back. Great movie. The timeline is unified!

I might dare to call this the best film with the Marvel logo in the opening credits.
