What happened? :/, Pharrell can't make a beat that isn't a fucking loop either. ( In before, hot song, summer jam etc etc) This is almost as bad as the last garbage album The Roots put out.

:( It was truly a sad moment when I heard their recent stuff.

I'll have to listen to Common's latest. There isn't too much from him that I don't like.

Um.. Common has sold pretty well his last two albums, he just felt like going in a different direction... I don't particularly like the song, but I commend him for trying something different instead of just running to Kanye for some sped up soul samples...

I don't hate Common, I hate this new approach though, I enjoyed The album BE a lot.

Edit: Not as much as Like water from chocolate though.

it's not a regular club song, it's a b-boy jam. it's a nod to bambaataa

exactly and plus he said his new album will have this direction.

he still wont sell like ppl think he is trying to do. i doubt he is trying to sell like the big rappers anyway.

I used to love H.E.R. proves you wrong.

1 song doesn't redeem a 16 year career, thats what we call one hit wonders.
Not that I think Common is one, although he's a tad bit overrated.

Commercially he's at his most successful.

The album debuted at the number one on the Billboard 200, selling 155,000 units in the first week, becoming Common's first chart-topper.[1] Selling over 500,000 units in the US, it has been certified Gold.[2]

if it wasn't for kanye, his songs wouldn't be that great. the people is a great beat, but look at these lyrics:

This is street ra-dio, for unsung heroes
Ridin in they regal, tryin to stay legal
My daughter found Nemo, I found the new primo
Yeah you know how we do, we do it for the people
From Englewood to a single hood in Botswana
I see the I in We my nigga, yours is my drama
Standin in front of the judge with no honor
Barack stick, knight the people like Obama

Nas lost.
Nas hasn't been good since the mid 90ties. People who name drop him as GOAT are insane. Which reminds me, I wish Nujabes\Madlib would make an album, that would be real Hip Hop, mainstream died along time ago. Look what kids are listening to now a days. Crank Dat? Laffy Taffy? Lip Gloss? LOL.

Stillmatic & The Lost Tapes.

Nah, homie, you must be new to Common. Come Close was the worst album by him.

I disagree. At least Common was passionate about that album. Be is just so lifeless and dull I can barely listen to it. It honestly sounds like Common needed an album out and quick. Easily the most forgettable Common album ever.

People hate on Electric Circus but at least Common had a goal with it and it shows in the tunes. Be is just...there.

Real People is alright though.

Finding Forever went gold, which is excellent by 2007 rap album standards. Only 9 rap albums released in 2007 went gold.

Kanye West - Graduation - ~2.1 million
50 Cent - Curtis - ~1.3 million
T.I. - T.I. vs. T.I.P - ~1.1 million
Jay-Z - American Gangster - ~1 million
Soulja Boy - souljaboytellem.com - ~900k
Fabolous - From Nothing to Something - ~600k
Common - Finding Forever - ~550k
Lupe Fiasco - The Cool - ~500k
Plies - The Real Testament - ~500k

He ethered the Camel, you mad?

Don't know how this got to Nas, but alright.

Illmatic is ridiculously overrated. The only thing that I could consider more overrated in hip hop is Hail Mary. Every album Nas drops the first shit out of people's mouth is "Illmatic was better". Yeah Nas' flow has changed over the years and he isn't as sharp and biting as he was on that album, but as far as subject matter and wordplay Nas has tons of songs that easily eclipse Illmatic's best, especially once Jigga woke him up a few years back.

Mos Def > You
The Mos Def of Black On Both Sides and prior, yes.

I saw him perform at Rock The Bells a couple years ago and during the whole performance he decided that all he had to do was recite the first two lines of each of his songs and then have it devolve into singing the first line of Rapper's Delight repeatedly in scat. This happened in EVERY FUCKING SONG. The New Danger was OK and then Tru3 Magic was a half-assed abomination which Common has yet to make anything as bad as.

You sure he wasn't coked up? :D

The New Danger is one of my favorite hip hop albums ever. The only complaint I have about it was that Modern Marvel wasn't split into two songs.

Hey, he never fell as hard as Mos Def has though.
wait a sec now, mos is the truth. His first 2 albums were sick. Tru3 magic was garbage but I have the suspicion he made that album simply to end his contract, he couldnt' have put much effort into that album imo, the shit didn't even have an album booklet/cover art. Kanye is supposed to do some production on his next album , can't wait for it.

I'm digging it suckaz!

EDIT: But damn is it cheesy :S

I could see some hot remixes, but not so much on the hiphop side. More the electro scene.
