Fury road is great. But I think there are better action movies.
Such as The Matrix, Aliens, Raiders of the lost Ark, Die hard...

As far as actually being an action movie, Fury Road does have it's moments. But at the end of the day, it is one of the best chase movies ever made. One of the best movies made over the last decade... I can't believe it is 10 years old now. I think the world building is incredible, and it has fantastic editing.

Though, I still love The Road Warrior as well, which I consider to be a top tier action and chase movie. Terminator 2 has some solid chase scenes as well.

As far as Terminator 2 being a timeless movie? It comes close. But still feels like a product of 1991 in some ways, even though it is set in the year 1997. I feel like this one aspect is what throws it off a bit. because it does not quite feel like the real year of 1997. But I think James Cameron was still very smart by not trying to fabricate a fake 1997 and just stick to using conventional items from 1991. Most things from 1991 were still in use in 1997. Just a minor issue for me. I guess most current audiences won't know the difference between 1991 and 1997.

In some ways, I feel like the original Terminator movie is more 'timeless' than the sequel. Yes, The Terminator is very much rooted in the year 1984. It does feel like an early 1980's movie. Which is appropriate, given that it is a time travel movie that is set in that particular year. The future war scenes do not really age at all, I am still impressed by how good they look decades later. You have classic peak Arnold. Though he was still hitting his stride in 1991 as well. Though, Terminator 1 is a little more of the horror side than it is an action movie.

Another sci-fi movie that I consider to be 'close to timeless' is the original Robocop. I guess Paul Verhoven kept the futuristic aspect as conservative as possible as far as aesthetics go. I think it captures the insanity of a dystopian future perfectly.

Back to the Future 1: while not an action movie, is a science fiction movie about time travel, and is another film that I feel like does not age (outside of the one visual effect with the fire).

Another sci-fi movie that I consider to be 'close to timeless' is the original Robocop. I guess Paul Verhoven kept the futuristic aspect as conservative as possible as far as aesthetics go. I think it captures the insanity of a dystopian future perfectly.

The movie is LEAN. Every single scene has a meaning and advances the plot in a way or another. Not a single scenes can be cut or should be added.

Not to take away too much conversation on Terminator 2... which is a fine movie. There was some personal blog or website somewhere (I can no longer find the link) that did this great breakdown on Robocop and how the movie is nearly symmetrical in its script. Once Robocop gets to the half way point, it starts mirroring the events of the first half in a reverse ordering.

The opening scene features a 'media break' , with Dick Jones at the end of it being quoted as saying: ""If you can't stand the heat, you better stay out of the kitchen". There was a deleted scene that was suppose to be at the end of the movie with another media break, but this time it is Lewis in a hospital bed, almost quoting Dick Jones verbatim.



This above scene was cut because of the 'Murphy' line having such a strong response with test audiences. The Lewis bit felt too anticlimactic.

Scene two is the OCP boardroom scene with the ED209 demonstration. The last scene (which was written as second to last scene) has Robocop end up in the same boardroom.

The scene after Murphy and Lewis are introduced into the movie, features them in a police chase pursuit with Clarence and his gang, as they end up in a steel mill. The second to last scene in the theatrical cut has a battle and car chase in the same steel mill.

The entire movie is structured in a near perfect butterfly effect. I feel like it has no wasted or excessive scenes. Nothing feels rushed either.

Hamilton is fantastic in that scene (as she is in the rest of the movie, honestly). Her terror and hopelessness feel so genuine.
Fun fact: I watched T2 before T1, so the reason why Sarah is so terrified of the T-800 when she first sees it in the hospital was completely lost to me. Watching T1 after its sequel put so many pieces in place. It was an interesting experience

Terminator 2 isn't set in 1997. Pretty sure 1997 is just the date of the original judgement day which gets delayed by the events of T2.

Skynet is being developed normally in the 90s by 1997 the terminator states stealth bombers are operating perfectly with skynet, when the humans realise it came self aware they try to pull the plug so skynet launches missiles.
