Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

So where exactly do you have to be for Rest to work in Melee. I understand you have to be above the opponent and there is a certain amount of clipping involved, and Ive seen many Rests coming off of a specific throw (think it's down, not really sure though), but what is the exact range?

And wth does it mean to "tech".
Feel like every time I watch a smash stream with commentary I learn 20+ new terms I dont understand and get only 1-3 explained

When you're hit and you're flying/falling if you press shield right when you hit the ground or wall you're instantly recover.

That's a tech.

To add to what Kyzon said; when you press L or R as you hit the ground or wall or a ceiling, you will halt your momentum and gain a few frames of invincibility but importantly, if you techn off the ground you have 3 options.

1. You can tech while standing in place
2. You can tech roll to the left
3. You can tech roll to the right.

The thing to be careful of is being tech chased, so you want to try to mix those 3 tech options up so as to avoid punishment.

Jigglypuff haters swerve.

Don't games like skullgirls that have paid DLC let you FIGHT AGAINST dlc characters, just not pick them? I see nothing wrong with that, if you do paid dlc.

To play online, you have to update, period. Force DLC update.

To play against a friend, on 3ds, I believe the 3ds is capable of allowing people you play with to download updates from them (in some form). Force them to update via 3ds wireless if they don't have their 3ds hooked up to the internet. The other option is to temporarily 'downgrade' the 3DS that is fully updated to a 'non-updated' version, so they can play against other people.

That's a nice way to do it, get to get experience fighting them, and see their moves before you buy them.

This is not a case like Falco and Fox in Melee where the only differences are mechanical, either: they share no animations whatsoever.

Wolf actually does share a few animations with Fox and Falco, however slight. They have the same "size-up" animation after a Super Mushroom, and there's a bit of Fox's idle animation at the very beginning of Wolf's idle animation.

*pushes up glasses*

Not to mention that Wolf was to also have the same lightning kicks as Fox.

Given the period of time that games like F.E and the L.O.Z are influenced by, the swords would be iron or bronze since the steel age came much later.

/s

Fire Emblem has steel swords. And what about Toon Link. Sure, it's the WW iteration, which means no trains, but Phantom Hourglass still had steam boats, so steel was there around that time. And does that mean Samus will destroy Jigglypuff too? Megaman? (although he has few contact moves). Lucario might get bullet punch or something similar.

Really hope tying system is a little more balanced this time and is kept Pokemon exclusive. Sucks what happened to Ivysaur with all the fire moves.

Although then Lucario resists all of Jigglypuff's normal and fighting moves, so that makes it tough. Maybe we can make it apply only to specials.

Don't forget iron knuckles in Zelda and I was just being silly and contrarian for giggles.

come on man :P

It's like free advertising. "oh, you just got WHOOPED by ridley? Wanna be him? 9.99"
:p (no I am not endorsing 9.99 per dlc character, nor paid dlc)

So, as we're probably getting an Ike update for the POTD tonight, any thoughts on what it might contain? I'm trying to think of how they may be updating him like they've done with so many other veterans. I hope they don't make him any slower so they can power him up, as, even though he's strong in Radiant Dawn, he's definitely not a slow guy.

Either an Aether, eruption or quick draw change.

Hopefully he will inform us that either his Aether now has horizontal & vertical range or that his quick draw now penetrates through opponents and has follow through.

I could easily see the super armor from his up b, being shared with his side b.

Ha, how the hell could they justify powering him up? I have K.Od medium weight characters at 40% with c-sticked f smashes on many occasions.

Anything more and he will be encroaching on Little Mac territory.

Since Kirby's new fire hammer was actually planned for Brawl, I wonder if Sakurai's going to change Ike's neutral special to the shockwave. Sakurai changed it for balancing reasons, but this is a different game with different priorities.

Oooh. Do you happen to have gifs of these unused Brawl moves?

WOAH! I didn't know that. Source? I just want to read the details for myself.

That would be incredible and would change his game up completely for the better since he has no safe approaches really. He could mix in shockwave with aeirals to close the gap.

Even if it doesn't become a thing, we could always see if becomes something within the customizable moveset.

Previous E3 countdown images: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=113180848&postcount=101

I really don't see any series having more than 5 characters.
Also Kid Icarus should be in the same column as Metroid since the originals had the same producer (Gunpei Yokoi!) and director.

Pokémon and Zelda are the only franchises in my roster that have more than 5 characters (with 6 each) There were already 6 Pokémon characters in Brawl (if you count Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard separately), plus Mewtwo and Plusle & Minun were planned... I don't think 6 Pokémon characters is too much at all. And likewise, I don't think 6 characters is too much for The Legend of Zelda, either. Mario, Pokémon, and The Legend of Zelda are Nintendo's big three. The Mario franchise already kind of has more than 5 characters anyway if you count the related franchises like Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Wario.

I just want a vertical layout with the player boxes 1 and 2 on the left, and 3 and 4 on the right. Then, a giant vertical setup of all the characters.

Edit: This is what I made for myself in Project M (sort of).
