Btw I'm just curious. But am I the only one who has gotten far more interested in seeing how newcomers play than the actual newcomers themselves?
With brawl I don't think I ever *really* paid much attention to newcomer playstyle, it was just like ... "yeah the character I want is in!"
But after seeing megaman, villager, rosalina, mac etc I'm like ... Wow so many of these characters are so fresh and unique. It really makes me care a lot more for the unannounced newcomers to actually play awesome no matter who they are.

I mean vega can do spiderman stuff, but vega can screw off a cliff.
Its interesting playstyle wise, but who they are is paramount for me. The characters are integral to these types of games.

Nice catch. I wonder why, though; Sheik doesn't have a sword or anything that would make mirroring difficult.

Why you gotta hate on, king boo for smash tho?Obviously I wouldn't want dumb characters that don't belong in smash.if you read this, insert any dumb character you love.
I do feel like as long as a character makes sense, I'd easily give up some of my favorite character picks for a char that "belongs" in smash who has a solid moveset.
I hope "[player] is free on a steam sale" becomes standard Smash tournament commentary from here on out

What is this?
Not sure if you're serious but I'd honest to god prefer King Boo over crap like Wonder red & Geno.
Probably included for 3DS since percents will be on the bottom screen.
It's not like Brawl is any different. There's stuff like glide tossing, chain-grabbing, B-reversals, DACUS, RAR and wavebouncing, not to mention all the things carried over from Melee like DI/SDI and meteor cancelling.
Melee's barrier of entry is nowhere close to anything I'd consider high. Hell, wavedashing is easier to do that dragon punches.
Honestly, I feel like it's a lot harder to get good at Brawl. The barrier for entry feels lower, since less people play it (therefore, you have a smaller number of good players). But in Melee after you get a hit, you can often control the situation for a while. In Brawl, you're generally stuck returning to neutral every single time, meaning you have to keep relying on your mental game to get hits in.I don't know what to tell you if you don't think Melee's barrier to entry is much higher than Brawl's, competitively speaking.
EDIT: Before anyone jumps down my throat claiming I'm a Melee "purist" or whatever, I do enjoy playing Brawl more than Melee.

It's probably just harder for me since I'm not used to it though. I've played in Melee tournaments for years, but only recently tried entering Brawl a couple times.

Yeah, not familiar with those three, but the rest seem great. Glad to see Milktea up there, seeing as I thought she was retired (her Twitter bio has been changed to "competitive Smash Bros. player", dropping the "former", so that's probably telling). PC Chris seems odd, he's only recently got back into playing - guess the documentary helps.I peg PPMD to take this shit, he's the best player on that list easily.
Not surprised to see Mango absent, afaik he's not really interested in anything outside of Melee and he's pretty, er, wild. M2K is a bummer, he's a damn good Smasher across all 4 games but his stage presence is probably an important factor to consider. Hungrybox is the most conspicuous absence, though.
The real news here: D1 and Prog. Awwwwww yeah.
i wonder if any character will have a "crouch" stance like that..it would make for a pretty good screenshotYup, my thoughts exactly. This change came from a necessity for the 3ds version. It's probably really tough to tell if you're at high percentage or if your enemies are (especially since they're changing the speed at which you climb back on stage to not reflect your percentage anymore). Very smart way to indicate information to the player without needing to look at your percentage.
Also, gear 2nd (I have to assume sakurai or someone on his team is a fan)

Really though, anybody could take a tournament like this. PPMD is a god at Melee, yes, but this is a game he's never played before. He's essentially on the same ground as everyone else.
The tourney will go to whoever is able to intuitively grasp the new mechanics the fastest and/or gets lucky with their character pick. We have no idea who is god tier/shit tier yet.
I got only 2 gameplay issues with brawl:
1. it's waaay too floaty, annoyingly so.
2. Most veterans play like total ass.
We have a supposed list now? This get debunked yet? I honestly doubt it's leaked in full... but I'd be ok-ish with this. Lack of M2K is jarring, but PPMD is there, as are plenty of interesting players.
Well, the idea I was getting at is that the mental game is way, way harder than Melee's (or Brawl's) button pressing. It may take hours to learn the muscle memory, but the mental game is something you can't even really practice at home at all. I'm talking more about the barrier from beginner to intermediate though, rather than the starting entry barrier. It's sort of a separate topic, but I feel like it's a bigger hurdle. You're right in that Brawl feels like more of a mental game than Melee does, to me at least. But that just proves my point. In Melee you have to spend hours and hours and hours perfecting your muscle memory to pull off all the tech skills you'll need to compete.
Yes, Brawl has it's own share of tech to learn, but they're all easier and you spend so much time in the neutral game that it doesn't feel as crucial.
Is there any evidence that this is fake yet? Looks scary close to that other roster that was proven fake. But it has Ridley so it must be legit.

Sakurai: (laughs)
I hope this visual effect starts at +150%, because I dont want to see it, and I never go over 150% in a match ever /badass.

I can't actually read his name. What does it say?Yup, there a lot. Look at Wario for starters.
It says Mario Bros Wario, but it should clearly say WarioLand Wario. FaaaaakeDying early doesn't make you cool.![]()
I can't actually read his name. What does it say?
That's a shame if it is fake. I was looking forward to playing as Ramsey. I think Goku's name is spelled wrong though, so that's probably the giveaway.
A remake of the Melee intro video with Valve characters. What is this?
One Piece invented smoking bodies now?
Read that as crotch stance lawl.i wonder if any character will have a "crouch" stance like that..it would make for a pretty good screenshot
Only recognize the Portal ones.Smash intro but with valves characters![]()
