I am no sure how I feel about this series yet. Story and cinematography are good. But the acting is really hit and miss. Green and Dalton are giving great performances. The rest of the cast ranges from okay to cringe-worthy amateurish (
Proteus was a train-wreck
). It's like they ran out of money after paying Dalton and Green and went cheap for the supporting cast.

Can't say I agree at all. I thought Proteus was fine. Hell think everyone is pretty good with the possible exception of Hartnet. And even he isn't letting the side down that much.

The true mystery of the show is, is Josh Hartnett slipping in and out of his cowboy accent purposefully to show that the character is occasionally faltering in a facade that he wants to present to the world, or is the show just being that sloppy with it?

Honestly, his sporadic deep-voiced "darlin' " and associated act is throwing me off more than anything from Billie Piper.

Felt like a bit of a step back from the previous two episodes (the pacing felt out of whack), but still a great episode. Piper is still unintelligible in her brief sex scene.

The Frankenstein stuff was way interesting, but I felt the way they cut it messed with the pace of the episode. The actor playing the Monster/Caliban was excellent though. I wonder if there's more to his story considering at this point he's willing to just straight up murder Proteus.

The thing with the wolves and Ethan was... interesting. Definite confirmation that he's a werewolf? Thank God there was no Dorian Grey in this one. That guy annoys me.

Is the black guy just a Magical Negro in this show or what? What's his character? Just Malcolm's baller manservant?

i just realized
that would make him an american werewolf in london

also wasn't he on his way to paris

Hahahaha, great catch.

I'm loving this show. That Irish accent is horrible though.

And I loved Frankenstein monsters, both of them too bad what happened to Proteus though.

Another great ep.

Thoroughly enjoyed this exchange between Caliban and Frankenstein "Love? I could never love you." "I do not want your love, demon." threw that shit right back at him. So fucking good.

according the preview, van helsing will be teaming up with Dr. Frankenstein next episode

This show keeps getting better and better.

I tried watching this just because of her and I couldn't take more than 20 minutes. The photography was kinda cool but it just felt really really boring to me.

The pilot was kinda bland, but it picks up the pace in ep2. Haven't watch ep3.

Loving the show... loving the classic characters from literature being brought to life.

I did not pick up that Ethan was/is a
Werewolf
. I just thought that him being from the American West, he knew
how to pacify wild dogs, since he would have to deal with wolves and coyotes out in the west.

When they first showed the preview for this weeks episode, I thought that the dude chained up WAS Renfield, but I guess I was wrong.

I love that they are seeking out Dracula, because Mina was with Johnathan Harker, and those are two main characters from the book, so it should be interesting to see where this all ends up..

I also loved Frankenstein's first creations backstory... it was so well put together, that it makes you hate Frankenstein and like his creation. I am glad that his first son, ripped proteus apart.

Anway, I can't wait to see where this season takes us. Should be a lot of fun!

She's just super intense all the time.

Probably because she's always getting possessed by spirits, lol.

I...don't think you can do what he did with wild wolves and coyotes in real life.

I am glad that his first son, ripped proteus apart.

Why? Proteus didn't do anything to deserve that. He was a good monster.

All the acting in those show has been great so far to with Piper being the exception. I'm gonna take a guess and Hartnett's character isn't a born and raised cowboy and became one later on in life.

The Monster kills Proteus because he knows it will upset his father. Proteus is also Frankenstein's feelings of failure in regards to the monster given life. The monster isn't gonna like him just because of that.

Great episode.

Though I'm dreading to hear the conclusion of the Monster's story. You just know that actress is gonna die horribly one way or another.

Maybe her corpse will end up being Lady Monster.

Agreed. This epi sealed the deal for me. A rendition of Frankenstein's monster where he isn't a shambling moron but instead a creature filled with such eloquent venom is better than I could have imagined. Hopefully the rest of his story is of the same standard.

And it gives me such hope that Dracula is built in the same fashion, just a proper sinister villain, a proper return to form from what vampires have become in this modern age. If anything can deliver that it will be this show.

The pilot was kinda bland, but it picks up the pace in ep2. Haven't watch ep3.

There's a crazy gun show at the start, then they are killing vampires, Eva has a crazy moment, and the show ends with the reanimation of a dead man. If this is bland for a show then I don't know what can be considered exciting.

The actor doing the crazy gun show was uncharismatic, the fight against the vampire was messy and then the big vampire was defeated in a matter of minutes with 1 stab. Eva and Proteus only became interesting in ep2.

messy as in body parts everywhere?

Did you not notice it was Eva that put herself in front of it that gave it pause?
At the time it seemed weird..but now in retrospect It certainly foreshadows the idea that its her the Master wants, and why it hesitated thereby allowing Malcom the opportunity to slay it from behind.

I think they're doing a great job..better then I could have ever hoped for. I think this has the best Frankenstein screen portrayal I've seen since Boris..

This show is fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. This is what I hoped that Dracula series would be like but it bored me to tears.

If you don't like the show just say you don't like it. There is nothing wrong with not liking it. It isn't bland though.

I absolutely love how they're handling the relationship between Frankenstein and The Creature. In fact, the whole Frankenstein storyline has been great. It's such an interesting, and unique take on the story.

Is it weird that's the major thing in the pilot that made me think he's
a werewolf
. I sounded like a madman to my gf trying to explain it.

I found myself enjoying the first episode more than I thought I would, especially as the pilot episode is a show about nothing.

Seriously, it's all set up with no pay off. They set up the narrative strands that will be picked up later in the season (presumably) but they never do anything else with it. What was the episode about? Characters drift in and out but there isn't a self contained story within the actual first episode.

Anyhoo..., yeah I liked it. The general consensus seems to be that it continues like this for the next few episodes at least so I'll give the second episode a try for sure.

About nothing? The first episode establishes that in the show's world the paranormal is real. We learn there is a serial killer in London and it isn't human. We know that the American is running from his past. You learn that Eva's character has powers, but they don't reveal all of it yet and this is purposely done. The main thread for this season is Dalton's character looking for his daughter who was taken by vampires and we learn this in the first episode. We also learn that the vampires want to bring about a huge event that will favor them.

The first episode introduces characters and for some of them it establishes what their motivations are. In the case of the American it doesn't lay out his motivations for the season, but you are given important information on his character. Green's character is mysterious, but that's her role.
