Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

So wait, who's NOT playable? Sheik and Ike? I guess that means no newer characters will be playable unless its for the special bracket?

EDIT: Welp.

This except only 1 Gamecube controller, my wallet is cry ;_;

Diddy, Ike, Yoshi, Sheik, Lucario, Toon Link, Peach, Luigi, King Dedede, Charizard

The excluded chars, for those interested.

Amsa is coming, yet no Yoshi =(

KDJ, yet no Sheik =(

At least we'll be able to see Ken rock red Marth. I know I will at Best Buy. Speaking of Best Buy, GAMECUBE CONTROLLERS PLS

I'm hoping Pac Man/other unannounced character is playable and they're just keeping it a secret, but I kinda doubt it.

Awesome news. Will buy the Smash-branded controller if it's available.

Outside of Geoff hosting, that's pretty hype.

I knew DJNintendo would be there, he'd always retweets announcements related to the invitational :P.

The organization of the tournament is weird, with FFA and items on, but whatever I'm still excited. I hope they all get a proper format to talk about their impressions after so we don't have to go fishing. I also hope they get plenty of practice before hand.

GCN controller adaptor is super cool too. It's introduction, along with D1's, was hilarious.

So I'm guessing each group of 4 presented are the same ones fighting each other? So it'll be 4 rounds then, 8 games. At ~5 minutes each, that's 40 minutes of gameplay. Not bad, gives us plenty to work with until the game comes out.

Overall, pretty awesome.

I wonder if the gamecube controllers will work on other games? Will they be like 'pro controllers'? They can't work like Wii remote + classic controller, since they have no home button. Will they only work on games that support the gamecube adapter?

DOES THIS MEAN GAMECUBE VIRTUAL CONSOLE INCOMING!? :p

I mean, it's POSSIBLE it's only in there for smash bros, but nintendo at least usually INTENDS to use a peripheral for more than 1 game.

Gonna call it now: special edition wired GameCube Wii U pro controller will be announced just before the invitational at e3, and used by the players during the tournament.

Along with Meta Knight and Captain Falcon.
MK and CF confirmed for E3 announcements? :P

Tripping by attacking doesn't let you use it for the attacker's benefit like how random movement tripping does. And it does take something away from the game, its conssitency.

Eh? One, how would you know about Smash 4. And two, if you're talking about Brawl then yes it very well does. Fox D-air, into trip, U-smash is one of his best kill moves. MK d-tilt, into trip, grab, is one of his safest pokes.

That and you are assuming the player needs to guess to take advantage of a trip. How about they just react to the new possibly "random" outcome? Brawl players already do it. Very much in the same way that Street Fighter players react to 'Counter Hit" and adjust their combos accordingly.

You know I was planning on getting work down here, but not with this news, damn you NeoGAF
Who am I kidding, I don't get work done anyways :P

Btw, this likely confirms this isn't what Zelda Williams was talking about.

Also, DJNintendo tweeted that he's repping Bowser. Don't know if he's hoping to nab him or if their character's already been selected though.

Once you pick a character, no one else can pick it.

Once someone picks fox, he/she uses fox the entire tournament, and no one else can use fox.

16 players, 20 characters, 4 will not be picked.

Have we ever gotten Pokemon game reveals at E3? They always show them after they've been announced, but I can't remember any specific reveals from it.

They never showed ANY new Pokemon stuff at E3 until last year, and while Pokemon ORAS has technically been revealed already we are getting our first look at the game at E3.

The rules make sense in the context of showing off the game. Also, if everyone has to use a different character (and by extension, some have to use completely new ones) I have to imagine they'll be given time beforehand to get familiarized with whichever one they're using

Lets make this a guessing game lol.

Mario and fox are almost guaranteed to be picked.

Until Reggie, Sakurai, Miyamoto, and Iwata show up!

Who was the peoples champion by the way?

Yeah, I can't predict which 4 won't be chosen. Maybe bowser, DK, olimar, and zelda?

It just seems like they want to show as much of the game as possible within the situation.

100% this. They want to put on a good show and show off the game, even if it makes the tournament less fair. Maybe having the items/random chance might make up for a selected character not being all that great. Who knows.
