I have zero expectations, but if I had to guess, I'd say somewhere in the range of 5 new characters overall: three veterans and two newcomers. Could be more than that though. Really depends on how much of the roster they want to keep secret.

I expect another 3 newcomer reveal
Pac Man/Mii/Palutena
and the full starting roster announced. Of course, depending on when the 3DS version is releasing.
 
Holy crap this game is fun. K wasn't sold on the mushroom cup, but star cup is just too good. Already unlocked Morton and PGP too, so I'm all set!

People were complaining because they thought that the fact Ike was back meant Chrom wouldn't get in. Someone would moan about it for sure.

I assume it will only appear in matches with more than 2 players and that it'll hit the player with the least % damage/greater number of stocks.

I personally think that each franchise that had a "throphy quiz" in the April Smash Direct will have a new representative. FE, Zelda, Metroid, Kid Icarus.
Yes, I think Sakurai would put an obscure clue like this in.

That's a popular theory, but I don't see it coming to pass unless Sheik and Zamus being standalone counts as newcomers.

It kinda feels like the inverse of the Ness/Lucas situation from the Dojo days. Back then, it seemed like the newcomer Lucas was an exact clone of the veteran Ness, and people assumed that Ness had no chance because of that. Now, it seems like the potential newcomer Chrom would be nothing more than an exact clone of veteran Ike, and, since Ike has already been confirmed, people are now acting like Chrom has no chance in hell.

Chrom ain't getting in. If you're really expecting a FE newcomer, smart money's on Robin, though I'm still thinking that it's going to be just Marth and Ike again.

I feel like we've had this debate twenty times already, but the "smart money" is definitely on Chrom.
 
I'm not even as hardcore "Chrom Only" as Ryce is and I know that he's the favorite to take the FE:Awakening newcomer role. People love them some main characters and coming off the game that "Saved the series™" there's no shortage of defense that make him the most likely pick.

I'm just hoping for the Sakurai Clause* to kick in myself.

Betting on Chrom would be the easiest Avatar bet ever, although it has competition with that guy who bet that Palutena won't be in the game.

Yeah, i'm on episode 3 (haven't had much time), but it's pretty well made. I'd love someone to go back in and edit people's names in every time someone is talking so I know who most of them are. Thanks to the smash tournament trailer, I know a few of them, but not all. Even though they sometimes say their names, it's hard to remember.

I feel like Link, Zelda, and Donkey Kong are locks to be left out in the invitational. They're known quantities, usually mid or low tier, and don't have character specialists to represent them like Bowser and Samus do.
 
Keep in mind that the players will get some chance to practice with the game beforehand as well. I'm sure that getting a feel for characters might change some players' minds on who they want to use.
