SSF4: AE transition from GFWL to Steamworks is a complete mess

-Introduced lag which wasn't there before and a box pops up in every match saying waiting for opponent.
-Region lock which means you can't see players from any other region regardless of the option you choose.
-Messed up Audio Levels where the announcers voice is way too high.
-Everyone has their mic on by default with no option to turn it off.

So don't be so quick to uninstall the GFWL version yet.

It's a mess but can you even play over GFWL anymore?

Didn`t Capcom confirmed that they would release a solution for that problem?

PS: I am looking forward to the release of the Ultimate-Version of the game. Had the chance to play it and it feels great. (Xbox 360)

Odd , i have not had any lag so far and the region lock was in place even on the GFWL option and is even on the console versions i believe.

Hit Alt+Enter.

How do I transfer my GFWL version to STEAM? I have no idea where to find the key for my version.

If it's a digital GFWL copy then you're SOL. If you have a retail copy then you can just enter the GFWL key on Steam and you will automatically activate the game on Steam.

I can't even play. It gives me no opponents and all and apparently Puerto Rico is now a "unknown" region while in GFWL it fell under USA. Generally matches were good unless people where from the West Coast.

They broke the game for me :(

Capcom sparing us from your coconut net. It's been, like, 2 years since we've played each other (on 360) and I still remember the lag.

Not that I see. Yeah, digital version.

Yeah, I'm gonna get it today, thanks.

Where did you buy it from? You should really try to see if you can find the GFWL key. Because of the transition to Steamworks, all of the SSFIV: AE GFWL keys redeem on Steam.

Apparently not the digital ones. I just bought the inferior version. I'm set.

But I usually have lagless matches *sniff*. I just Custom Search and if I see Yellow or Green Bars its usually a good connection. If it falls to 1 bar then its a shitfest. That method usually works for me when battling online against randoms.

Just booted it up and tried out a few things. Didn't notice any difference in announcer volume though I've already lowered the volume settings to be pretty low anyway. All my saves had carried across just fine too and my DLC costumes were all included (I bought the game through Steam originally)

Even after being prompted and transferring the save file from GFWL no achievements were unlocked on Steam at all. I think it maybe checks the status of them when you complete any part of a task that goes toward that particular achievement. I went into the trials mode and did a single fireball, which got me the achievement for 100 special moves, completing a trial and completing all of a characters trials (I haven't done all trials on the PC version yet but I suspect that would have popped too).

The one ranked match I played, as Dan vs Gen, was relatively lag free. A few non-UK players showed up on my search for a match too. When I won the match I got ten achievements all at once:

Don't really have time to play much more to see what else differs. I thought I might have to delete my save file otherwise the early achievements would remain locked but that doesn't seem to be an issue.

Still plenty of time to unlock everything before Ultra on PC I guess. And still time for Combofiend to buff Dan's crouching taunt to do a little damage.

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet, when a match starts in ranked, the game seems to change the audio levels of other things running on my computer. Maybe this is just me, though.

You can still mute your own mic, it's just that tons of steam users have voice set up and it's automatically enabled. It uses whatever your default mic is (in Windows) along with it's currently set volume level.

You can also still mute opponents mics, you just need to make sure to do it before you hit 'Ready' in the lobby.

Apparently an oversight that the millions of Xbox live users don't seem bothered by.

What?

Oh okay, good.

The problem is that setting it to push-to-talk in the Steam settings does nothing at all.

The muting your own mic option was never in the game; it was always part of the GFWL home tab and it's still there in steam too.

So far, apart from the achievements I already earned not being completely in sync, there's little difference between this and GFWL other than it starting up a tiny bit quicker because it doesn't load my GFWL profile.

The main thing I'll miss is all the lovely ragemail now that it's not as convenient to send.

Online lag is about the same as before. Performance is massively improved on lower end systems. I could just about maintain 60fps before the patch, with everything set to lowest. Now I can actually set stage quality to high (so it's not just a black background) and still get 70+ fps on every stage.

The game also loads much faster, no more waiting around for gfwl to sign in. The announcer issue should be an easy fix. I've played with people from all over Europe so I'm not experiencing this region lock you're talking about.

All in all, I'm very happy with the patch. 1 or 2 little fixes and it will be perfect.

I think it was pretty much a given that a big update like this would need a patch or two.

I wish this thread had been made yesterday before I bought this game on a Steam sale.

Don't worry about it. It's only been about a day, and they're bound to iron this stuff out.

This is why we have to wait 2 months for Ultra on PC

But seriously I've played at least 25 matches on the patch and haven't noticed lag.

It's not even just online that is effected. Something feels really off when playing in training mode. Like, all the timings that I'm used to for my links suddenly get dropped all the time.

Online is just impossible right now, not even worth trying. Just constantly waiting for other players. At times, I can hold back for 10 seconds and still get hit in the face by fireballs.

I'm getting these exact issues. The sudden "waiting for opponent" lag in every other match is unbearable.

It's really bad for me. I can barely connect to someone, so I usually open a lobby myself. But then people seem to time out during stage and character select.
About 1/2 make it to the game, and about 1/2 of those lag horribly or lose the connection at some point, with a lot of "waiting for players" messages inbetween.

I really hope they work on this, it has changed a lot more than I thought it would. GFWL has never been that bad.

To the region lock problem: I heard it limits players to the download server you selected in Steam by accident. Maybe choose another one if you can't find other players.

The performance actually has improved a little, I get a solid 300fps in the benchmark now, I was around 250fps before.

Capcom is motivated to do a garbage job to push people towards Ultra.
It is more likely that they are using AE as a beta test for their Ultra netcode. The second ultra is released AE online will be pretty much dead anyway, no reason to actively make it worse.

Actually quite the opposite. The more problems they iron out now the better they can get it for Ultra.
