SSF4: AE transition from GFWL to Steamworks is a complete mess

my biggest issue is the dumb steam cloud. if you disable it you cant play online and when you enable its such a a huge file being uploaded at 10kb/s that it takes ages to finish

EDIT: yup, reinstalled game, and ever since i disabled stea cloud i have not been able to recover it and amke it work, thus i cant play online. disabling it prevents me from going online, if i enable it, it gets stuck at synchronizing steam cloud in menu and nothing happens as steam cloud is broken with this game.

Nice, so it ain't just me. Me and my bro are on the same network and still experienced lag. Thank god 360 will get AE for free too, cause steam fucked up.

Im not lagging, but I had 1 fight where it said "waiting for opponent" like every 2 seconds.

BUT, the matchmaking is soooooo much faster. I dont have to press 10000 times to search again to get someone.

And I find the announcer pretty hilarious.

@joffocakes They do. I think. Saw 1000 popups for achievements when I carried over my savegame. I dont care for achievements so maybe it was something else from steam

Seems inconsistent. One of my friends had the same thing I had where achievements would pop up for, say, 100 ranked wins when he fought one match but the similar Endless achievements stayed locked.

Seems strange.

Just played my first match online. Definitely seems rough, but loads much quicker than the GFWL version. I like that it pulled my setting from that version. The match got choppy here and there and I unlocked 5 achievements after just that one. I don't know if that was a glitch, or if STEAM just heaps those things on you. Just seems like a patch or two could fix the little issues.

For some reason the DS4 program is messing around with me, it was working fine yesterday but now I can't do light attacks and Circle has changed to X even though the button layout is fine in the options... :(

It is unplayable with someone who is ~500km away. Unbelievable bad. IF we can start the game its a slideshow or in a "waiting for host/other player" state until we both drop. Its disgusting.

It still remembers all your stats, but to get the steam version of your achievements to unlock, you need to do one of each 'thing' again.

So:

Fight one match: all the fight x number matches achievements unlock
Do one trial: all the trial related achievements unlock
Do one ultra finish: the do x number of ultra finishes unlocks.
Finish the single player with one character on medium: the achievement for beating it with all characters unlocks.
Watch one replay
Create one endless lobby,

and so on.

This does mean you'll have to do some of the achievements that were one-off things again, like the hidden bosses ones, and the number of wins in a row ones.

So I got the update today and transfered my GFWL save to Steam. The ladder points are all reset to 0. I assume that's normal with Ultra coming? Do you guys have the same?

Online lag is about the same as before. Performance is massively improved on lower end systems. I could just about maintain 60fps before the patch, with everything set to lowest. Now I can actually set stage quality to high (so it's not just a black background) and still get 70+ fps on every stage.

The game also loads much faster, no more waiting around for gfwl to sign in. The announcer issue should be an easy fix. I've played with people from all over Europe so I'm not experiencing this region lock you're talking about.

All in all, I'm very happy with the patch. 1 or 2 little fixes and it will be perfect.

Batman Arkham City also got noticeable framerate boosts after GFWL was removed. Apparently GFWL's anti-cheat mechanism had a major performance impact.

It's a 15+MB worth of save files for God knows what reason and for some yet another stupid reason it uploads at ~10kb/s. But it seems that it only needs to upload everything once, since the save folder is full of very small files and only modified files need to uploaded after the first time.

Dark Souls got fucked up for me after last gfwl update or patch and nothing was working so I said fuck it and uninstalled it along with all the mods. I was pretty much at the end and the end sucks anyway. LAST game I ever do with GFWL. RIH.

GFWL > Steam

Pretty sure this is a crime. Get him.

Knowing Crapcom, I expect Ultra to work fine and SS4: AE to get maybe one patch that sort of fixes some of the issues.

Man that sucks.

Also, apparently any free keys they gave away weren't recorded in whatever database they refer to when authorizing all the GFWL keys for steam or something. So people who got free keys can't activate the game on steam. They've apparently fixed the issue for keys given away at EVO, but people like me who got them through other means (ex: capcom-unity stream) just have to email customer support and cross their fingers.

I've only experienced the lag issue with someone known to have a shitty connection. It is way worse for him than it used to be however. Nowadays, we can't even finish a match with him. Not sure if that's due to the game, or his ISP sucking worse than normal.

KOF13 is probably the best fighting game on Steam right now, too bad people don't seem to want to play it. The netcode is awesome. That isn't really the point of the thread though :p

I played in an endless lobby with some friends last night, and the connections were kind of all over the place. Some matches we had 2/3 to full bars with no issues, sometimes we had the same connections as the matches that were fine but we would get lag anyway, and every so often one or two of us would completely lag out and have a red/no bar connection in the lobby. All on the same connections the whole time. I really don't get it. Oh, the worst part was running into a glitch where one of us would be unable to exit the match results screen, which locked the other guys out of readying up for the next match, so we'd have to alt-f4, etc. Overall it was fine, but the kinds of glitches we ran into were just dumb.

You can't mute mics? That's a hilariously dumb oversight.

You can in GfWL/original and it's still there in Steamworks, but it's bugged. The release was really rushed to transition it it seems. :/ Hopefully they're ready for "primetime"/Ultra in the next month or so.

Having a horrible time. Sound crackles and lags, 360 controller isn't even recognized by the game anymore. Friggin weird and a real bummer.

Well, shit. How big is the community on PC? Is it like super small?

edit: in regards to KOF 13
Well, it's KOF, so...
Small but active enough. Best bet is to find people to add to your friends list and ask them to play.
Pretty much this. In my experience most of the KOF community is pretty interested in getting new people into the game, so they're really understanding if you're kinda nooby, etc.

First post at Gaf.

I didn't have the game installed anymore, so when I downloaded it today, it doesn't give me the option to import saves from GFWL, only to create a new save. Should have known better, at least I had almost nothing unlocked. Oh, well...

Their intent of not doing the change with SFxTK still stands, right?

.

KoF is not the best, even with Capcom's cluster fuck upgrade of AE it still better than KoF, KoF netcode is ok at best, and the interface is terrible, why can't we link up once? it always have to link up after every fucking match...

Well, the Capcom devs did warn us that the transition to Steamworks would be rough at the beginning and that it would take some time to get everything working as intended.

You aren't thinking of KOF console netcode, are you? Even when it was on GFWL, I had better connections/matches in KOF than I did Street Fighter. opinions/anecdotal evidence though.

There are some issues that are really bothering me about this new patch.

  • Can't mute the background music, which is driving me insane.
  • The announcer's voice is really loud and he's talking way more than he used to for some reason.
  • Can't mute your own mic nor anyone else's.
  • There's a weird kind of constant delay in endless now that wasn't there before.
There are a lot of other issues as well from what I've been hearing, but I haven't run into them yet as I only play with friends in endless. Either way it's a complete mess right now and I can't believe I'm about to say this, but the GFWL version was far better. I really hope they'll sort it out and soon.

PC gamer, I don't know the issues it had on consoles but when i compare KoF to AE they are miles apart in the online department...AE wins easily..

i sometimes get the waiting for opponent sign too afterwards they can move for 5-6 seconds and im stuck it happens in random matches but other than that everything else is solid for me

the only other problem is that I've only run into around 10 good players since i started playing 3 days ago i always get paired up with people who are barely starting the game if i set the matches to higher skilled i don't get as much so i left it to any skill level

I'm sorry, I really can't take you seriously about this, especially since you said that AE is still better even with all the shit that is broken in it right now. I've pretty much only ever set up lobbies in KOF though.

I know which game slows down when its netcode needs to think (and right now it completely stops, too), and it ain't KOF.

The framerate took a huge hit after the transition, but it was already patched. Everything else seems to work fine to me.

So basically you just jumping on the PRO KOF bandwagon while AE transition to steamworks is buggy, so when all is fixed what's your excuse for KoF being just OK?

Not what I said, thank you. If you read, I said that my experience with KOF's netcode was already better even when AE was running on GFWL. I'm not talking features, by the way, I mean get into a match, and how smoothly that runs. I wouldn't give a shit about the AE netcode before and after if I didn't like playing it.

AE's netcode may not be great, but i think its by far the best one in fighting games that are not ggpo. KoF netcode for me was ridiculously bad. Sf x tekken tried buti didnt play much of it. Mk and injustice are just plain out broken on pc. AE was the one that gave me the least issues.

Also, i finally found a fix to the steam cloud issue, so if anyone has an issue, follow this awesome guide and it will fix it for you.

Finally! A method to DELETE files stored in Steam
