Divinity: Original Sin |OT| No, it's not coming out for consoles and shut up about the ps4's touchpad.

Port begging annoys me.

Given the one time the PS4 was mentioned was 2 months ago it seems a bit silly to bring it up. Why try to start an argument?

Except most people these days have never played U7

Most people these days won't play Divinity Original Sin, either. Nor will most people play any game, even the best selling ones.

However, the target audience for D:OS is mostly familiar with Ultima. Also, it's fine to make the comparison for those who aren't aware of it as well, just as a historical lesson.

imo

It'd certainly draw some attention.

No such thing as bad publicity etc etc etc :p

Yeah, all five of us. That's the problem :(

No need to be antagonizing :p

I think that's the problem, all six of us that still remember and love Ultima will love this, but the rest aren't even aware that it exists.

This.

We should go for a click-bait title, like Kotatku. Then Larian studios will port the game for the PS4 because of the attention = everyone wins.

I'm putting together the OP, the only hold up is deciding what will go into the media section. Most of the screenshots/gifs/movies will come from official sources, mainly due to a large part of the game not being available even the Beta, and I want to showcase the breath of content available in the game.I know more than a few members are holding off on playing too much of the Beta as to not spoil the final game. But for those that are a bit further in, if you want to show case your characters and an interesting environment/aspect in the OT; please PM me or post a screenshot in the thread. :)

Divinity: Original Sin |OT| Sheep, Stats, CO-OP, and Bread. The choice is ultimately yours.

It's a bit hard coming up with a title that has broad appeal yet also caters to current fans of a property. I much prefer choosing titles that favor the latter.

Heh, in that context its smart.

And I've little history with Ultima(I should change that!) but I'm really looking forward to this. Just seems brilliant. Although of course my opinion means little for general excitement because I am also usually in these threads :P

This may be blasphemy, but I'm pretty sure this is going to be a better game then Ultima VII.

Ultima VII was an amazing sandbox world saddled with some pretty awful gameplay systems. D:OS looks like an amazing sandbox world with fantastic gameplay systems.

We need some mod approved inflamatory OT title to rile folks up into clicking. Something like that EU3 thread that got so popular :D

Divinity: Original Sin |OT| 720p on PS4 and it has already outsold Second Son based on Steam pre-orders. Also it is an RPG.

Divinity: Original Sin |OT| Nirolak, charlequin. Baby I know I did you wrong, but it'll be different this time. I promise.

That's my two cents.

Ignore this consolites, it not cinematic enough

Ultima is not an obscure title. The series sold millions. Total unique account figures weren't released for Ultima Online, but that title alone had up to 250,000 paid subscriptions monthly.

Divinity Original Sin made explicit comparisons to Ultima in its Kickstarter ptich. It raised over $1 million,. Garriot funded over $4 million for Shroud of the Avatar solely on name brand.

So ignoring the deprecation, the audience is aware of Ultima and calling attention to it when some portion of the audience is not is perfectly acceptable. Those who are not can go look up the history. There's nothing wrong with that, just as reminding people of Doom and Quake is appropriate when speaking of the roots of the FPS genre.

I'm not arguing in favor of putting "Ultima" in the OT title, just dispelling an erroneous view of Ultima's significance.

Yeah, maybe I'm underestimating neogaf's awareness of Ultima.

Divinity: Original Sin [OT] If you haven't heard about this game, blame yourself or god

Divinity: Original Sin [OT] Sinatar confirms: better than Ultima7

Divinity: Original Sin [OT] Teleport in for Surprises!
I like this one a lot, but just because I know what it refers to.

Was that me bringing up the idea that it'd be nice to get some of these indie RPGs on consoles if they don't need to compromise gameplay design severely, AFTER they make bank on the PC originals akin to older PC ports before the Xbox?

Well, that's more "I think this might be a neat idea" than strictly port begging given I pitched in to the Kickstarter and it runs pretty well on my PC in beta anyway, so I won't exactly be heart broken if it stays on PC, haha.

EDIT: Oh nope that was someone else. Well then!

Does loot impact your character's appearance, or is it just a static model?

Yes, they change the appearance of characters. But a small change in stats between two otherwise equal sets will not always guarantee new armor/weapon/item models.

Divinity: Original Sin |OT| Buy this game. You owe Durante for fixing Dark Souls.

Might as well go all the way like Lord Panda mentioned

You should show the sneak animation in the OT, it's hilarious.

Finally decided to give this game a shot. I think my guys were still level 1 when I ran into this fight with a few orcs that jumped out of a ship. This is still in the first area, right after the tutorial dungeon.

They wiped the fucking floor with me. I had no chance to win that fight at all it seemed. This is with a fighter and a wizard.

Try using a Witch instead of a Wizard. The summon should help you manage a fight against multiple enemies.

Remember to use consumables, food is pretty good in this game, and also abuse the meatshields let the allies you get in that battle tank.

I always like to buy DRM-free, but do you guys think that the steam integration (friends and so on) helps with the coop-mode?

I've found that the only way to manage this fight is by
hitting the oil barrel with a fire based projectile. The oil barrel is labeled with a red skull and bones. Causes a huge explosion that kills all the enemies make sure you are standing far away as possible. The game starts you off with a fireball spell, save it for that.

You could get the boxed Limited Edition which comes with 2 Steam keys and DRM-free download (and other goodies like a cloth map) so you could try both.

Thanks but I'd like to buy digital. (And frankly I'm uninterested in extras, I'd gladly spare myself the increased price they require).

If it's like Dragon Commander, it will be DRM-free on Steam!
Meaning I could find the game .exe and launch the game directly from it (or a shortcut to it), completely bypassing steam?

(This is how it works for some old games, like X-Com Apocalypse).

Question for folks who already played it - how CPU intensive is it? I'd like to play it, but I'm not sure if my ancient Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz will be enough for it. As for the rest, my PC has 4GB RAM and GTX 560 Ti. Anyone have any ideas how it would run on it? Anyone with similar specs tried the beta?

I have a laptop with an i5-2450m 2.5GHz 4GB RAM and a shitty laptop graphic card and it runs flawlessly on high.

I have a couple.

I backed this game since KS (physical collector) and must have played about an hour or 2 each major update that was released, each time I was blown away by how good the game was becoming .

It really feel like a modern Ultima (7) can't wait to play this , I hope there won't be any delay.

I fought off playing because I want that old RPG feeling back that I haven't experienced really since the BG days and I started playing RPGs with Ultima II on a C-64!

Ditto! For me it was Ultima 3 on an IBM PC jr.
I've thought a few times about playing the beta, but successfully stopped myself from downloading it because I want to go through the release version.

I have the same CPU and RAM with Crossfire 4850s and it runs great. Loads are weeeeee bit slow but nothing to really complain about and it's only the launch load. Larian has done a great job of optimizing, so performance has gotten better as the beta advanced.

My suggestion for an OT title:

Divinity: Original Sin |OT| Co-op Bickering with a Bucket on your head

Yeah I should have done that but I was too curious, Il do this for Pillars of Eternity won't play until it's done.
But I really did not played much I was mostly messing around with interface and stuff at the beginning of the game.

First CRPG for me was a Ultima 7

You almost certainly won't play PoE until it's done, IIRC they don't plan on doing early access ;)
(Of course, that's unless you pledged for a beta tier)

Divinity: Original Sin [OT] The Harbinger of PC Next-Gen cRPGs.

Boom...

Then there's going to be Wasteland 2 in August.

And then Pillars of Eternity.

And finally Torment: Tides of Numenara.

I need to change my pants now.
