Batman Arkham Knight delayed to 2015

What you call greed, most people call wanting to stay in business.

You're not going to get the games you want on an install base of 10 million. It won't happen. So either you pare those games down or release them cross-gen and they're not going to pare them down because then those games don't sell.

Worked fine a the beginning of the last gen when the install base was small. Now we are getting half-cooked current-gen titles just so publishers can squeeze every last drop out of the decade old consoles... for shame

Everything you mentioned except AC is cross-gen, even open world Farcry 4 is cross-gen,

Publishers are ruining the beginning of this gen because of their greed... :(
Budgets increased and some were really weary of where the industry was going to go. Of course that can create a chicken/egg scenario, but at least cross-gen helps encourage adoption rather than actively antagonizing people for wanting new hardware. I still find it disappointing and occasionally frustrating as a gamer anyway, performance was getting pretty bad in the last few years and some games like FarCry 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition are exactly the kinds of games that'd benefit most from cutting last gen out of the loop.

Although... my view on Destiny there is somewhat tainted by the fact we found out as much as we did as early as we did, and it was clearly targeting last gen consoles initially without next-gen really being factored in except for after the first game or so. Which I think might actually be the case with the rest and Destiny would've been shown off along with them had the Infinity Ward lawsuit not forced their hand. So a lot of those games may've been going full steam for last generation systems, next gen actually came out and had quick adoption, and it was too late to change gears to full next gen so they go cross gen. Though I bet FC4 was still developed on short enough notice to have cut out last gen.

EDIT: Actually ShockingAlberto kind of shows the issue there with how many sales they actually expect these days... and highlights how the industry's digging itself into a terrible catch-22: to really push next-gen systems you need to blow a huge budget, but to justify that budget you need to sell to as many as possible. Well, you can still make amazing looking high end games without necessarily breaking the bank, just that you have to hack away at some of what are modern expectations, and I don't think the game industry on average actually CAN sustain the sales figures many expect anyway.

No lie, I'm distraught over this. The ONE game. The ONE game that I was really looking forward to. That isn't to say the others coming this year won't be good, but with this one it's almost guaranteed to hit all the right notes w/ me. Sometimes it really sucks being on GAF. Ignorance is bliss.

I've paid attention to too many games for too long, delays are disappointing but never able to drive me to despair.

Shame, but at least it gives a little bit more breathing room to the other games in October.

Probably will work out well for WB too. Never understood them publishing Shadow of Mordor and Batman potentially within a couple of weeks of each other. Kind of reminds me of Watchdogs and AC last year.

I can see Farcry getting pushed back too. I feel it.

I feel like holding your breath for a 2014 Smash might be a dangerous game. It might happen, but this is a series from a creator that will, and often does, demand delays. And for a game that's first version is supposed to be landing in just a few months, Sakurai has this unnerving habit of writing about them still deciding on important aspects in the daily updates, as if the games are still in a bit of flux, instead of mostly in stone.

wait smash hasn't be locked in for fall yet? so it might fall into 2015 too?*

Man. It'd be great to have at least one game to look forward to this fall.

Same, I hope what they show of AC: Unity and Farcry 4 can alleviate this...
Even Destiny could get me hyped again if they have a great demo planned that looks nothing like the last gameplay they showed...

This sucks, this was going to be my year end game. I still can't understand how can they delay a game just a couple of months after it's announcement. That's poor planning.

Another game that got announced too early. Next year is going to be an absolute bloodbath if all of these delayed games are released in close proximity to each other. The publishers will not have anyone to blame but themselves.

edit: well that's what I get for not reading through the whole thread.

This a good thing, it is a win for everyone, too many games coming out this fall as it is, allows consumers to purchase other games they were interested in, gives developers a longer time to work on the game until they feel it is finished, and will probably allow them to make more money.

Delayed to 2015? Am cry..well time to play Asylum and City until this one is on my PC or PS4. Hopefully the extra polish makes it even better.

Ha, I haven't lost perspective but this really is upsetting. I won't go as far as to say I bought a PS4 this early only to play this, but it definitely factored into my decision. I just wish developers would stop with the premature announcements. It's like false advertisement. Just be straight up. We complain about how mum Nintendo is with their release dates but I'd prefer that over constant shuffling. Man.

This isn't so bad as long as it doesn't get hit with successive delays. Bioshock Infinite got announced in 2010 WITH A 2012 DATE that STILL slipped. If it hits within roughly a year that's completely reasonable, it's just many of us are starving for something that could REALLY show off next gen without keeping last gen in mind or being a console exclusive.

Admittedly I was really hoping to see Witcher 3 this year, but that being delayed didn't surprise me. This doesn't either really, but it's more disappointing. Still, I can't recall if Arkham Asylum had a smooth announcement-to-release progression, I know Arkham City did and so did Arkham Origin though that was kind of a cash in appetizer anyway.

I'm bummed but I have about 15 games coming out from September to the end of the year that I want (hopefully none get delayed).

All I know is, 2015 is looking GOOD.

Kind of sucks, but honestly just Destiny and Dragon Age will probably eat up most of my limited fall gaming time anyway.

Wow, so we were all right expecting this to drop next year? ....Well, why didn't they just announce this as a 2015 tittle then; people would be pissed about the game being delayed and the game can get much more polish.

I guess 'next-gen' truly starts next year; a large amount of next-gen only games are coming then (Order got delayed, the Division is along way off, DriveClub got pushed to this fall AND now this game got pushed to next year).

Either way, the game will turn out great due to Rocksteady being a killer developer; both City and Asylum were amazing tittles :D. Looking forward to this when ever it launches :).

feels like the wole 2014 is delayed to 2015 now.
what IS coming this year anyway?
dragon age is the only thing comes to my mind that im remotely excited about

2nd most hyped game after Metal Gear and both in 2015? Good thing I held off that ps4. So I can wait, but I was still hoping for an oct. release.

Really sucks to see this delayed, purely for selfish reasons as it was one of my most wanted games this year.

On the bright side at least the publisher is giving the developer the time needed to polish it to perfection. This needs to be a fitting conclusion to an amazing trilogy.

Call of Duty. Assassins Creed. Battlefield. I no longer question why people keep buying the same shit every year. They are just buying what actually comes out when they want to spend money and have time to play games (the holidays).

The positive here is that by the time Destiny starts getting inundated with Activision DLC plans, there will be a landslide of games to move on to.

:(

If the game needs more time, it needs more time, but damn I was looking forward to this. Oh well, I'm still going through a PS3 backlog, and my PS4 backlog is building up even before buying it. All in all, now I have more time for everything I've already purchased.

Here's a question, as i recall Warner Bros. has released all their Batman games in the Fall, October. What are the chances Arkham Knight is delayed until the fall to get their holiday sale going?

I would imagine they may release this in April

It did well for Injustice.

Unfortunate but October was stacked anyhow. Rocksteady could also polish it up nicely with the extra time.

Possible, but unlikely. They probably needed additional time to get the framerate solid and bang the glitches out. If they release the game in the Spring or Summer they've got the whole period to themselves where they can sell Watch Dogs numbers.

....Or maybe not, since supposedly 2015 is packed with games.

Just as long as DA: Inquisition doesn't get delayed, I can deal. Inquisition is my Fall Game. I will be so bummed if it gets delayed.

Beginning of last gen is not the beginning of this gen. Lots of things separate them, such as the mysterious passage of time.

Seriously, Smash is going to end up being January 2015 for Wii U fans. Winter 2014? We already had that--Winter is December to March. Is Smash this year's 3D world?

Hmm? 3D World shipped last November.

Anyway, I imagine that Nintendo will do whatever they have to to get Smash U out by the end of the year, even if it means cutting corners. I doubt they have anything else handy that could take its place as the big holiday title.
