No apology. Nothing. Suddenly I became worth his time when I showed him I was willing to walk the fuck out.

I am acting very defensive now, because I can't stand some of the ignorance in this thread. I'll continue being unemployed and in debt, and you guys can continue letting people run all over you. I'd be very curious to see if anyone here against me could even be remotely considered successful.

People who don't agree with your entitlement aren't ignorant, quite the opposite, actually. You've got some growing up to do Thacker, take this as a lesson, hope it didn't screw you over long term, and move on.

As someone that struggled to get a job for a while, don't think you should just be patient for these kinds of things? For all you know, servers could be exploding or something. What is the harm in just waiting?

My job is a contract to hire position, and I'm still in the contract period right now. My boss was supposed to talk to me first thing this morning about going full time hire, but then some stuff went wrong with one of our applications and he was in meetings about it all morning. I ran into him in a hallway and he told me he would find me later. I told him I understood.

Then guess what, it was even BETTER. He took me to lunch with someone from the contracting company I got the job through. It was a nice lunch, all paid for, and I'll be a full on hire once the contract period ends!

I know that experience. I was contract to hire as well after 3 months. After 3 months nothing happened. I let it slide a week or two. I brought it up. They say we are slammed so they dragged it on for like another 2 months. That starts to fuck with your head like the deal isn't going to happen.

All is good now. Still there after 4 years and got a hefty raise last December out of the blue.

I don't necessarily think you did anything wrong OP. Go get what you're worth. Nobody knows the urgency of needing a job more than an unemployed person. I can't judge you in your position.

Guy who's had no reliable employment in his life is giving negotiating tips. Love it.

Uhhhh he's absolutely right about giving someone your salary history though. It's like when you're trying to sell a car and someone says "Okay what's the lowest you'll sell it for" and you fucking answer. You just gave up the game before it was even played.

This is true. If this had been a job at a large corporation like GM... HP.. IBM.. etc... waiting longer would have been more acceptable due to the promise of the benefits and the reputation behind the company. Working in a small office with 8 people when the boss while busy, obviously doesn't have time to even give you a decent conversation and sorry that he's running late it not a culture or workplace I want to be a part of. GAF obviously can't relate because they are only seeing it through my "entitled" word... but I promise anyone in this thread that if you had not been upset at what I was sitting in than I highly advise you get a backbone and stand up for yourself at some point in your life.

Says the guy with no job. nor prospects nor anything.

Okay I am going to stop trying to give advice because at this point I am convinced you are just trolling.

If you are not trolling, please try and consider some of the advice in this thread about examining your entitlement and learning and growing from this experience. Good luck.

This is a cartoonish way of looking at salary negotiations.

I find it hilarious that a guy who openly admits to being unemployed and in debt is challenging others to be considered more successful.

The only thing you're successful in is being ridiculously entitled. And I hate to use the word entitled, but damn it fits here.

Like for real, bro? I gave a few accounts of my boss and my interview. I love my job, I have a great boss and I'm happy.

That makes me successful.

'd be very curious to see if anyone here against me could even be remotely considered successful.

I'd consider myself successful, perhaps not in terms of income but in terms of what I do for a living and what I get out of it... working with kids and making an impact on their lives.

Obviously you're making an [ i m p a c t ] too, here on GAF. Backfire threads are the best.

What kind of fucked up job market is there where professional courtesy and basic respect between professionals in a mutually beneficial relationship is "entitled".

No fucking wonder our economy is like it is now.

Thacker, I really think you're a bit of a whack-job. You have absolutely no reason to give people advice, especially talking about back-bone. 95% of people in this huge thread are telling you that you are wrong, and you still keep making excuses. There is plenty more I would like to write up but I see you have ignored some great comments in here so no way am I wasting my time on this.

It seems as though you were ready, willing, and eager to see every little thing possible as a personal slight against you or your ideals. No wonder this thread blew up in your face.

Need to get over the us vs. them bullshit. If you go in with this ultra negative mindset about employers, you might as well not even try.

You're acting "entitled" because you threw a fit and walked away from a potential job instead of acting like an adult and either a) waiting, or b) asking about the delay and then waiting some more.

I bet you make fun of the people working at McDonald's since they have shitty jobs.

OP, I work for one of the three companies you previously mentioned and I have been involved with interviewing potential candidates. You need to listen to what everyone else is saying.

I was only two months into my 6 month contract (which apparently ends August 31 because I took over for someone else that turned out to be a bummer). They seemed to have good impressions of me the whole time so far. I hadn't had much interaction with my boss, just the other people that are "my superiors" that were working with me. I did run into him a few times over the last few months and he said they told him I was doing well.

No one's ignoring anything. The great comments became personal attacks as they always do on the internet.

Most people know they'd have felt similar to the way I did in my situation, but because of my entitled attitude they want to show me what's up.

Internet psychology 101.

I'm going to approach this differently.

I have a question for you:

If you're so adamant about not putting up with bosses and shit policies, why haven't you started a business?

I would think it's feasible and much cheaper than say starting a business in NY, but it's clear you hate authority so why not be the authority.

Is it that expensive to launch a business in IT in Atlanta? Couldn't you get a bank loan and promise future wages to the bank in exchange for a loan? Or say talk to family and friends and ask for a seed investment?

OP is clearly mentally troubled. This doesn't surprise me though given his history. Hope he gets the help he needs.

I don't think it was related at all to you "showing them you were willing to walk out". As stated in his email, he gave you some forms to fill in and was going to come out and meet you at around 3:45. Since that's pretty much exactly when you left, he probably did come out of his office to meet the minute you left!

.

Forgive me if I'm picturing this wrong;

He asked you if you were coming back. That's it. It's a question. Actually, not a question, an opportunity!

You probably would (actually, you definitely would have) gotten your ill-sought apology from the busy owner of small company had you actually gone back, or replied in a less stupid manner that's probably making it's way around the internet now. You probably would have gotten a job too.

HE KNEW I WAS FINISHED AND WAITING at 3:00 WHEN THE RECEPTIONIST WALKED IN HIS OFFICE WITH THE COMPLETED FORMS.

ok. fuck.

I'm not trolling, I'm being trolled. I see this now.

upper management can become busy with day to day obligations

head back, don't make a fuss over any of it

the day doesn't end for some people until 6, so leaving at 3:45 is just odd

The day doesn't end for some people. Period.

Also, you were told to show up at 3. He new you had 15-20 mins of paperwork/tests/etc before he could see you. So it would have been totally reasonable for him to plan on not meeting you to 3:20/3:30. Still makes him late, but much less so.

I have an interview of my own in a few hours. This thread is... Interesting.

Don't follow the OP's example. Understand that shit happens and they take time out of their normal jobs for these interviews, especially whoever is interviewing you, which is likely going to be your boss/the boss in general there. My boss is busy all the time and maybe is at his desk 10% of the day, if not even less than that. Don't believe me? I've seen his Outlook calendar, he's usually quite busy, and I totally understand that.

What kind of fucked up job market is there where professional courtesy and basic respect between professionals in a mutually beneficial relationship is "entitled".

No fucking wonder our economy is like it is now.

Our economy is bad because a secretary didn't offer you a glass of water? Because you had to wait for someone to get to your interview?

Who the hell do you think you are? That 'ordeal' you went through is absolutely nothing. Nothing.

Pisses me off in all honesty that a 30 year old can be such a brat about having opportunities that many people would go through absolute hell to have. Nope, 45 minutes taken out of his internet boarding schedule? He's too good for that.
