Pach-Attack: E3 Nintendo Assumptions.

He doesn't need to. He's an analyst, not a gamer.
Also, having a tournament for an unreleased and maybe unfinished fighting game is a ridicolous idea.

Well letting the press into parties etc. helps you getting attention and therefore being likeable and getting coverage I guess.
I'm not agreeing on this one (they'll lose for me but because of their blindness)

How is the invitational a bad idea? Also, the party thing is a stupid reason to say why someone "loses" E3. I think making E3 into a contest is stupid but at least wait until after the presentation before making some sort of declaration.

It's hard to take him seriously since all he does is complain about absolutely everything possible. I would imagine that this guy doesn't have many friends.

he is spot on about the fans, I am tired of listening to fools talk about when this game comes out and a price drop I'll buy a WiiU but they get angry when the media says Nintendo is doomed

I enjoy Pach's comments; however, whenever one dedicates a segment to Nintendo for E3, one needs to research as to what the company is offering throughout the event, and for the above video, he has failed to so.

It's disappointing as there are many things Pach could of talked about such as Nintendo's recent initiative for NFC figures - will the market and fanbase respond accordingly?

Could Nintendo's emphasis on promoting digital content lead to a reveal at E3 where Gamecube games, in conjunction with their recent announcement for Gamecube controls for Smash, is a possibility?

I mean he is an analyst, shouldn't we be hearing such comments and not rambling on about Nintendo's party and Maroon 5 meeting? C'mon Pach :(

Watched this a few hours ago. Eh I'm not gonna get mad but people acting like he's on point are hilarious. He's way of the mark it isn't even funny...actually maybe it is funny? He made me laugh in any case.

Isn't a Nintendo Direct a digital event? They seem one in the same to me
We don't know. Last year it was explicitly called a Direct, not the case this year. They wouldn't do the change for no reason.

So, i saw the rest of the vid. He makes some points, but I don't like his tone. I like to think that most vocal fans of the company do indeed vote with their wallets, I know I do. Most people that talk passionately about Nintendo buy Nintendo, I don't think that's too far-fetched to think.

In case you're reading Mr. Pachter, here's my vote, and then some.

Also, having a tournament for an unreleased and maybe unfinished fighting game is a ridicolous idea.

Showcasing your biggest fighting game for a few hours live during E3 with top competitive players is a bad idea? I'd love to know why.

I can't take him seriously at all, which is a shame because I think someone in his position could provide some interesting perspective.

I dont think it's bad by any means to have a Smash tournament.

No it's def not bad but it sure will be weird unless they give time to the partecipant to master the game. The ones interested in the tournament are the ones who probably watch Project M and Melee streams so a couple hours of guys trying the game for the first time wouldn't be what they need to make the game a huge fighting game with a big community.

I should ask Milton and Kamran on FBGAF what they think about it.

The people that are going want to be there and they will be given time to play the game beforehand.
It's not a real for money tournament. It's a fun thing. It's really perfect for everyone.

The Smash Tournament is going to be the biggest thing at E3 period. It's fucking huge and I'm not even a Smash fan. That's going to be the most hype thing at E3 with the loudest cheers and the craziest atmosphere.

The Smash community is smart enough to know that these guys aren't pros at the game and these guys will have enough smash experience to at least have an idea of what they're doing after a bit of experimentation at E3. They'll be happy enough seeing the game be played for the first time.

I dunno, the video was funny. And I'll admit I don't have a Wii U (usually play on my friend's) but I'll defend Nintendo and their quality of video games because...well...they're still high quality.

I think this video proves though that whenever Pachter says something about Nintendo, he doesn't actually do his research haha

Wait, he seriously thought they were having a tournament on the Wii Smash Bros game that came out 5 years ago?

I don't think it's a bad idea, but it is kind of ridiculous to think about. Most tournaments for games have millions of cumulative hours of the game being played by thousands of different people. This, aside from the developers, won't have more than a couple hundred by about 16 people.

Did Pachter buy a ton of Nintendo stocks short and is really worried they're not going to crash in time?

He's practically waiting for the stock to crash so that he can buy more at a low price lol.

Haven't seen it yet, but based on the reactions, better not try because it might ruin my good day.

Worked for Capcom and Double Helix

They did?
While I was typing I thought it worked for Super Mario Bros 3 too.

Anyway
It's not like he thought it was stupid, he was just surprised I guess
I'm not Patcher, I just found he was on point on some things. I don't even know if he is covering the whole industry with his job or just 2/3 companies, I think he said it somewhere in the last videos.. I'm not his lawyer tho so whatever.

Excellent post. I think it is a shame that he cant make a video like this.

I dont think it's about mastering the game. They will go in fresh and try it out. Besides the competitive folks they bring in will adapt on the fly.

Yeah, it's a really smart move on Nintendo's part.

The point of the tournament is not to be a serious tournament, it's to show the game. It's why the items are gonna be on for the first rounds, they want to show as much as possible. Nintendo also wants to show that they now acknowledges the Smash Competitive Community.

Right, because no one is playing this tournament for anything other than fun.
It's a showcase for a new game. For fun.

"Won't be able to to play it anyway so that's weird..."

...aside from that whole Best Buy event thing and possibly a demo version on the show floor, yeah, totally not playable for anyone yet ever.

I'm not one to rail on an analyst for making lousy predictions much, but if you're going to rant, at the very least you HAVE to be somewhat informed about what you're ranting about, and it just felt like there was way too much he had no idea about.

The stories were kinda' funny though.

he is spot on about the fans, I am tired of listening to fools talk about when this game comes out and a price drop I'll buy a WiiU but they get angry when the media says Nintendo is doomed

Those are rarely - if ever - the same people.

Didn't know smash was that popular. Personally don't know anyone who plays it. (Not that that anecdote means anything) just surprised when people are saying this is gonna be the hypest thing. Neat for the fans I guess.

Hey guys, he can have his opinion and his perspective. No need to hate.

I don't really want to watch the video because I've heard enough Nintendo hate/disappointment from other places.

I agree with Pachter that it's not going to be anything special, the fact that they're not having a live press conference pretty much confirms that they've already given up on the WiiU.

That's not an excuse to make up numbers and lie about facts. He's an analyst. It's against his job.

He doesn't mention any specific numbers in the video though. Are you saying he's lying about just how many Wii U's are out in the wild by poking fun at the number of people who speak out compared to their actual sales?

Just for a point of reference, Melee is pretty much always the most watched game at EVO.
The Smash games have a deep history and a very large and loyal fanbase.

They seem to be doing more at E3 than all the other companies.

So it's okay to make assumptions when he flat out doesn't know what the details are? That's quality analysis right there. So it's bad to invite hundreds of fans to watch pro players play a tournament of the 2nd biggest game for Nintendo this year and stream it? Yeah no reason to get people excited about the game at all.

"He's the angriest analyst you've ever heard.
He's Pachter the angry, shrill, incorrect tuuurd!"

Eh. He's an amusing enough character. But it's time we replace Wedbush's Wacky Suit with an anthropomorphic Honey Badger holding a boomerang.

/sarcasm

Thousands, actually. (3000)

So, Nintendo isn't doing a conference this year either?

They are. It'll be live on Twitch, YouTube, UStream and NicoNico. June 11th 9AM PDT.

I agree with Pachter that it's not going to be anything special, the fact that they're not having a live press conference pretty much confirms that they've already given up on the WiiU.

No it doesn't. They think it's a better way to get the information out.

Why would Pachter lie to me?

Well, he lied about the Direct getting less and less views in that same video, so...

No surprises from Nintendo seems like a pretty safe bet, folks are overreacting over Pachter not remembering exact Nintendo Direct viewers and calling out WiiU's slump.

4 guys is a far far cry from "not remembering" 2+ million...

yeah, why would you do actual research for your own damn job when you can just make shit up
