Pach-Attack: E3 Nintendo Assumptions.

Well...

Nintendo acts like a dinosaur most of the time, but they are definitely paying attention to how they could potentionally fix themselves through popular media. TV shows, YouTube/Twitch footage, figurines.

What's-his-face didn't talk about that, but this year, Nintendo's strategy is likely to be less archaic.

We sort of agree on this then, if I was Iwata I would not be charging you tubers to show Nintendo content or taking their money, I would be paying them to show WiiU games...

It's a pretty logical assumption to make, especially since all this gaming stuff is a fun side gig for him.

Sure, but then to go further and "predict" that Smash wouldn't even be playable at E3, when it's playable all over the country?

Dude should have done at least do a little research.

I guess not all of us are as forward thinking when it comes to converging media.

I'm glad Nintendo is waking up a little bit. I expect them to really switch up their "we're not competing" stance during e3. I think they want to start being more inclusive and transparent with fans.

What's-his-face has nothing to say about that when it is actually a discussion worth having.

Iwata wanted family friendly games with local multiplayer for The Wii u's initial holiday but that failed. (And I'm kind of happy it did) This year we know for a fact e3 will cater to the "hardcore." X, Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros, Zelda and Miyamoto's new IP will be there. :/

This. A thousand times this. I think he should give up his E3 pass and give it up to a random Gaffer.

It's a logical assumption that the Smash Bros tournament uses Brawl. I mean, how they can have a tournament for a game no one has played before?!

People aren't really confused about this right?

Be one of the first to see Super Smash Bros. for Wii U in action! Join us on Tuesday, June 10th as 16 highly-skilled Super Smash Bros. players take each other on in the first-ever public tournament featuring the new game.

This event will be livestreamed on both Twitch’s E3 channel and Nintendo’s Twitch channel, starting at 4 p.m. PT. The tournament will also be shown on Nintendo’s YouTube channel.

Want to attend in-person? Here’s how >

He's just a toxic person in the gaming community. I don't know why we give him a platform and the go and amplify his voice. All he does is make people mad and stir up fanboy fights. I stood next to him two years back for an hour waiting to get into the Xbox press event and he was unbearable to listen to as he rambled about what he'd thought we'd see or what the other guys were doing. For someone who should have some actual insight into these companies, he's pretty clueless and has a lot of terrible ideas.

Thing is, when he's not in his porch, this old guy's day job is getting Freemasons to invest in Cuba. Or something. I suck at analogies.

Long and the short of it, Pachter's job is getting people to buy into companies, and that includes investing into videogame companies. He actively works in this industry, and advises people on what shares to buy in what company. If he can't be bothered to do a little background reading, that doesn't just make him seem ill informed when he's spouting off, it makes you wonder just what he's telling people investing in videogame companies.

Bingo. We ain't his paymasters.

In addition, with Nintendo even Ubi's abandoned them outside Japan (and it's headed that way there too...). Plus it's this wierd scenario where him and alot of Nintendo-indifferent over the last 10-11 years are now right for the wrong reasons.

This is why the huge gaps in knowledge on even Nintendo's biggest upcoming games. This is why he's constantly on Nintendos case for everything BUT the litany of shit they've been fucking up on. This is why the fairy tale of 3rd Party/Smart device Nintendo is now within the realm of possibility and their avaricious warbles are finally starting to gel with reality.

Of COURSE he's going to keep tooting this message as he's BEEN tooting this message to them for years, and now it's been "good advice" for his paymasters and ya darn right he'll be playing that up now that reality shifted underneath him to put his position into "at least plausible" territory.

"You Nintendo fans are not voting with your wallets"

Only line that matters... and is absolutely, 100% true.
This is what's Nintendo's problem: They need customers other than "Nintendo fans". Presuming from the start that only advocators are buying Nintendo products and making points based on that is useless.

I own a Wii U, 3DS, Wii, N64, Cube and SNES. Been playing and buying Nintendo since the 80's. Point is, people aren't buying the Wii U, and the 3DS is in decline. Rabble rage all you want, but his point is still correct. The market is voting with its wallet.

it's only dumbass bollocks that lack a proper indepth analysis, a conclusion a five years old could make

And a good day to you as well, good sir.

Can't tell if you are agreeing or disagreeing. But as Currygan said, I'm a dumbass bollocks (whatever that is, is it like some kind of cow?) with the intellect of a 5 year old.

Why does this lame have a platform, how many years must we be trolled...

Because you'll watch it.

Who pays this mummer to begin with?

He does this for free.

Pachter says Nintendo Directs are never interesting but 9 times out of 10 they have always contained new footage and information on games I'm interested in, new game reveals, etc. They are very rarely disappointing. They're just geared towards gamers and not analysts/press/people that want a free concert.

Hmm that's a bit harsh, but i think if Nintendo had more to show they would be at E3 on stage.

Oh & it The Pach is reading this, here is my WiiU.

Sorry to say he was pretty much spot on here. Nintendo fans are not voting with their wallets.

Not sure if he was even trying to make this point or not, but it made me think: If the The new Smash Bros tournament is ready to the point where they can have a tournament, why is it not already out? Maybe they're working on extra modes or something, admittedly I have not kept up with the development of the title as I'm not interested in buying it.

The idea that Nintendo fans are not buying Nintendo products is ridiculous. Nintendo's problem is that only Nintendo fans are buying their products, and that's not a large enough market to sustain the Wii U.

As far as being disparaging of Pachter, that is the voice of experience. He's been consistently wrong about Nintendo since the early days of the DS.

As for all the people crying for Nintendo to go 3rd party, it's a good thing old man Yamauchi is dead, cause he'd have sooner shut the company down than ever allow that to happen (that's not hyperbole, he literally said that during the life of the GameCube). That being said, it's still pretty unlikely. Nintendo isn't hemorrhaging money nearly as hard as SCE did during the PS3 era.

Scary thing is I think I would prefer that.

I don't understand. Why would non-Nintendo fans buy the Wii U? Do non-Sony fans buy PS4s or a non-Microsoft fans buy Xbox Ones? Aren't the distinguishing characteristics between these consoles and the most common determining factors for purchases the first party support and platform exclusives?

I think when someone says "Nintendo fan" or "Sony fan" they're talking about someone who is very into the company. They're not talking about the casual consumers who make up the majority of the install base. My sister owns a Wii, but she's by no means a "Nintendo fan." Like Pachter, she would have no idea that there was a Smash Bros tournament at E3.

She also wouldn't even know what E3 was. Or Smash Bros. I think that's the difference here. I think the point the guy you quoted was making was that only the hardcore fans bought the Wii U and that what's needed is the remaining vast majority of casual consumers. But they're apparently not interested.

I am not a Sony-fan at all (modern Sony), but I bought the PS3 for Demons Souls and some other exclusives, and will buy the PS4 sooner rather than later because there will be games on it I want to play. Nintendo needs to attract customers in the same way.

For people in the known (neogaf)? Yes.

For the avg Joe many factors:

Trends (games and console brand)
Friends
Other factors.

That's what carried the wii. And what they lost with the WiiU.

Yeah I have heard him say the same shit to Nintendo fans before, and I don't quite understand his point.

Does he think there are infinite number of Nintendo fans that will buy a Wii U? Who does he think are the people that already bought a Wii U already are?

And that was hyperbole from Yamauchi, besides he could afford say that back in the days when Nintendo made profit.

He does this for free.

As someone who is getting in to film production, I don't see how he does this for free. Filming something like this no matter how short takes a lot of time to set up and I would figure a guy like Pachter wouldn't exactly have so much free time to do this as frequent as he does.

That's a good question.

Actually, your question is resonating more than it should.

Hmm.

I actually want answers now, because that's the best question nobody's asking.

Are all stages done, all characters?

Aren't they just going to use a few characters and stages in the tournament?

I voted with my wallet.

But I do think it is very difficult to convince friends to get a Wii U, they'll just ask me to stream them the single player games and they come over for multiplayer games.

He is doing it for free.

The GT staff who are involved in filming it are not.

He obviously enjoys doing it. It is probably along similar reasons for why some people appear as guests on news programmes etc, it maintains a high profile for you.
