Iwata skipping E3 for health reasons - Polygon

If he's not outright stopping work it's probably nothing too serious, but serious enough to prevent him from traveling.

Get well soon, Iwata.

That sucks, hope it's only stress related so he'll get well soon. On the bright side, maybe he has time to read some forums/press reactions from E3 this time :).

Man, that's sad. I was looking forward to his speech. He speaks slowly but it seems so calm to me, I've always liked that. Get well!

There's been several threads about why the Iwata Ask's segments have been slowed down recently. This might help explain why.

Probably has a ton of stress considering how Nintendo's business is doing.

Time to bow out, Iwata.

Can we not take potshots at the guy's health?

Nah, I hope Iwata feels better soon.

Oh no, get well soon Mr Iwata. For all the flak he has got for Nintendo's poor performance I am sure he is busting a gut to turn things around and I really hope the stress of things isn't affecting his health, although I kinda hope it is just stress and nothing more serious.

I recall Iwata skipping E3 2012 (at least he did not appear on stage during the conference), but he did go to E3 2013 despite the lack of a traditional press conference. Although, the company did meet with retailers in closed conferences during E3 week.

You know not having a live keynote does not look so bad now.

As much as I want to know the exact illness that is clearly personal to Mr. Iwata and it is not my part to speculate.

Hope Iwata gets better. Also hoping Sakurai is feeling better as well with his wrist (or was it some other part of his arm) I think it was.

A lot of the time it feels like people forget people involved in the game industry are mortal, that they're actual human beings that age, get sick, get old.

Not saying anyone has that mentality in this thread, nor is that mentality necessarily bad. A lot of gaming figureheads from the 90's or 80's are now in their late 40's, early to mid 50's, or even early 60's. The next 20 years for this industry will be very interesting and sad regarding old and proven talent retiring or passing away.

Is there a better feeling than reading an assholish comment and then noticing that the poster is already banned? No, there is not.

On topic, however, I hope it's nothing too serious. He's been a total fuck-up for awhile but he's a lovable fuck-up.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. The fact that he went to see a doctor before flying speaks volumes honestly, how many people do that unless there is something of concern?

I hope it's just something minor, but my spider sense is seeing red flags... :(

Yeah... I just wish him the best and a speedy recovery, whatever it is.

I'm gonna miss the edits of the picture between Iwata, Shiggy and Reggie. :(

Hopefully it's not long term and he recovers fully.

Hope he gets better, I'll miss his, Miyamoto and Reggie's E3 shenanigans.

Yeah, and it's more fun to have him and company fool around on the show floor. A truly passionate guy for video games.

But we'll see him still on the Digital Event. By next week I hope he's already doing fine.

Man, hope Iwata is okay. I don't think he's been a good leader for Nintendo recently, but nobody deserves poor health. Skimmed the thread, and apologies if I missed it, but does anyone have guesses as to what health condition would let you work full time, but not travel overseas? Only thing I know about would be some kind of thrombosis - I don't see why "stress" which was mentioned would keep you from going to a convention.

I assume the digital event was already taped, so the main impact will be no Iwata interviews coming from E3 - still a bummer.

He should retire or leave the company if he can't attend the most important event of the industry if it was duo possible stress that he might face as suggested by some here, you are the CEO and being paid millions so you face these issues not to run away from them.

If he was sick though i hope he gets better.

Eh, people will just photoshop Iwata into every picture of E3 they can, LOL! Iwata photobombing Xbox presentations. Iwata in the crowd for Sony's opener. Iwata in line getting food. Iwata playing Forza Horizons at a booth....
