Iwata skipping E3 for health reasons - Polygon

Hopefully it's not something terrible. As much as I think Iwata needs to retire from Ninty, I wish no harm on the dude and he's always been great to watch.

Get well soon!

[Iwata] *laughs*

He should retire or leave the company if he can't attend the most important event of the industry if it was duo possible stress that he might face as suggested by some here, you are the CEO and being paid millions so you face these issues not to run away from them.

If he was sick though i hope he gets better.

Your first paragraph is a pretty silly thing to say. We have no idea what health stuff Iwata is going through, neither are we in a position to state what a CEO should have to endure because we made up a fictional paycheck amount in our heads.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. The fact that he went to see a doctor before flying speaks volumes honestly, how many people do that unless there is something of concern?

I hope it's just something minor, but my spider sense is seeing red flags... :(

Many people see a doctor before flying across half the world into a different climate... I love all the telepathic doctors in this thread.

There's been several threads about why the Iwata Ask's segments have been slowed down recently. This might help explain why.

Can we not take potshots at the guy's health?

Stress related illnesses are a real concern, and there's no doubt Iwata has taken a lot of heat these past few years in regards to the company's poor performance. The added stress accrued over that long period of time could add up to a fairly serious illness whether its chronic headaches, stomach ulcers etc. We don't know what his illness is at this time, but saying it could be derived from added work stress doesn't seem like a potshot. Of course we shouldn't spend time speculating on what his illness is, but its just human nature to try put pieces together, using conjecture, to hypothesize.

There are FAR more reasons to be ill than just stress, and I find it sad that a bunch of users here are automatically thinking that's why and using it as a platform to take potshots. People get sick, even nice guys like Iwata...

...Man.
Nintendo surely knew the reaction to their lack of conference last year. They did rent the Nokia Theater this time around. I wonder if the initial plan was to have a normal conference, then Iwata's health issues forbid it, and had to go the digital route instead?

Hoping the best for Mr. Iwata.

Isn't this very reason why they hired another satoru in the first place, so they had a spare just in case? Shibata time!

But seriously, it's never good to hear of someone being ill. Hope it's something minor.

I hope he gets better, but it shouldn't be a huge deal that he isn't there. They're not doing a physical press conference, and all of the other press events they have will be hosted by the various directors and producers.

I don't blame him for skipping the sickness death-trap that is E3.

The cheap concern is almost as bad as the incendiary comments. That said, if he's sick it's probably pretty severe if he's missing E3 over it. If it's stress-related it makes me wonder if missing E3 won't compound his troubles, though. Missing this sort of major event, whatever the reality of it may be, does not make your company or your leadership looks strong.

Yeah, we don't know Nintendo's rules either. For all we know he's grounded because they heard a rumor last year of Reggie's after hours hookers and blow parties

It's never something you want to hear, but it could really be almost anything even just a bad flu, I don't think anyone should be overreacting to this. If there's enough concern expressed, I'd almost bet they may end up issuing an additional statement in the coming days.

Really dude? You don't know the details of why he's skipping out and I'm pretty sure it is serious if he can't go to E3. Enjoy your new tag along with the OP's.

I hope it's nothing serious.

The article says he "will be actively involved in all of Nintendo's activities at the show", maybe he's going to take part in the Digital Event anyway?

Damn. Must be serious if he can't even travel.

Get well soon Iwata.

Not really? Could be something as simple as a bout of flu, I know I've not even wanted to crawl out of my bed with that and I'm 26.

Shouldn't look into it too much.

Hes a CEO of a huge company, its in the company's and his duty to ensure his health all the time.

Before clicking thread: Hey I wonder if this thread is shitting on Iwata for his health. Nah, not even GAF would do that.

After clicking thread: I don't know whether to be happy I was initially right or sad I was initially right.

One of his eyes looked weird in the last few Nintendo Direct videos. People with eye problems are sometimes advised to avoid air travel. Something to do with blood pressure.
