Mario Maker Rumor Discussion Thread

BREAKING NEWS: Nintendo is making a Mario game.

Fucking boring.. This could be one of the shittiest E3 ever for Nintendo (and that's saying a lot) if that's going to be their bomb.
who said that this would be "their bomb"? It's likely one of their smaller projects like NES remix was.

Do each of those booths represent a new title? Because you have Mario Maker (which this thread is about), Animal Crossing (a game a year old already...), Pokemon (the upcoming remakes), and Kirby (maybe for Triple Deluxe).

Jumping the gun, much? If anything, this is probably one of their smaller projects.

Really hope this isn't the unannounced 3DS title that has the 90 Minute presentation along with it. This seems like a small eShop title rather than a game they'd devote a full blown presentation to.

The Villager, Pikachu, and Kirby pictures are Smash Bros art work. You can see the logo in the lower right corner of each picture, and a Smash Bros logo on a sign atop the Villager banner. That's probably a huge area where all the Smash demo stations are.

I think the real news here is that we see Villager, Pikachu and Kirby on the larger signs. Obviously they're labeled with the Smash logos but...well.. I think we're due for a Animal Crossing on the Wii U, A Pokemon game on the Wii U and a Kirby game on the Wii U.

Those are the Smash Bros renders. So no.

...Although there likely will be a Pokemon
x Tekken
game present. :P

I think the Villager, Pikachu and Kirby sprites are from officially released artwork of Super Smash Bros 4, so they're likely for that game. Makes sense that there would be a lot more kiosks for that game as it's probably Nintendo's most popular game at this E3.

Damn cool if true. The possibilities of create extremely hard levels ala Super Mario Bros 2 are insane and if it has a level share function the game could be literally endless.

Small eshop title?? Really people?

Small eshop title isn't what will save wiiu. This would be a full blown title for sure. Prob the one moto be working on to use the pad

Who is saying anything about this saving the WiiU?
Who is saying anything about this being a WiiU title?
Who is even saying this is real?

No one's saying this is going to be the Wii U's saving grace. And if Miyamoto's big new idea is a level editor, holy shit would there be a meltdown.

I'm more than OK with this. 3DS/WiiU cross compatibility with NYC figures for maximum fun.

It would be amazing if Nintendo would let us buy the game once and get it on Wii U and 3DS, although I doubt that will happen.. Hopefully the levels would be playable on both versions (making massive assumptions about it existing and being on both systems here) at the very least though.

I applaud Nintendo's further emphasis on digital titles - most likely follows the same concept as NES Remix.

This will surely be revealed as one of their digital games for Wii U/3DS.

Listen, it is real. The picture doesn't looked shopped, the ceiling is clearly the ceiling of the convention center, and you can even see the sheet Nintendo has used before to the left. More than likely someone setting this up leaked the picture.

For reference here is a picture of setup at E3 2012. On the right is Nintendo's booth with the cover around it, which looks similar to the one of the left of the picture in the OP. Perhaps the picture in the OP is just a small section of Nintendo's and Mario Maker is just something small, and the big secret stuff is to the left there.

Sorry but nothing out of their E3 conferences has legitimately excited/surprised me ever since the 3DS reveal. Which makes it very hard for me to get hyped anymore. They did have some really exciting Directs in the past (e.j. January 2013) but still.. those aren't E3 conferences

I am saying if is real it needs to be those things.

No, it doesn't. The Wii U does need big titles, but small titles by small teams that don't take a long time to develop are a good way to keep people satisfied without wasting many resources while bigger teams work on the bigger games.

If true, please don't have this be a "big reveal" sort of game. This looks like one of those games you give a minute to then move on. This is NES Remix levels of uninteresting. :(

A level editor isn't going to save the WiiU...
If it's real, it will be just like the NES Remix games. Just more fleshed out.

It could be anything. For all we know it could be a $60 Wii U title that is so good you will feel like Miyamoto yourself making Mario.

The judgement this is getting from one blurry pick where you can't even read the text underneath is pretty hilarious. Speculating is fun, but dismissing or downplaying a product based on one picture is just too much. That isn't speculation, it's jumping to conclusions.

So! Question:

Why would they have this demo, by itself, at the start of the Smash demo stations?
It looks like someone just made and images an posted it over the character that should have been there for Smash (Likely Mario).

Depending on the features and how they handle sharing I think it could be a cool little thing to play around with through online communities, but that's about it.

I agree, that way we can have something to play while waiting for the big retail games. No way this is gonna be one of the "BOMBS" from Nintendo at E3. I'm sure this title is more of the casual digital-only title ala NES Remix, wich is excellent.

I think this is a great idea. I'm sure plenty of you are aware that the original Super Mario Bros. was planned on graph paper. So, a level editor makes a lot of sense, having a standard graph outline layered over the Wii U Gamepad, drop and place objects, enemies, etc.

If they pack this with content then it'll be great! I could see this being good.

I wouldn't bet on its authenticity. But in any case, if they do something like this, I certainly hope it's not restricted to the elements of the first SMB, as shown in that banner. Much better would be to allow the combination of elements from 1, 2, 3, and World, as was done for the fantastic eReader levels on the GBA (if you haven't played these, including the JP-only ones, you're missing out on some of the best 2D Mario since the SNES).

I would take a wild guess that unannounced conference would be for Mario Maker if it's real.

I never even thought about that. Wouldn't that mean that this is for 3DS? That would be weird since they've been hyping up games that take advantage of the GamePad and this would have been a good one.

As for the legitimacy, the poster of "Mario Maker" looks real, but it's placement is bugging me for some reason, it doesn't look like it fits there.

lol what? We haven't even seen the thing and "it looks ok but [rant]" ? At least let them confirm this thing first.

By saying "it looks ok" I'm saying based on what info that we have that "it looks like it might be fun". Also, I'm not ranting, I just don't think a game like this would need 90 minutes. I'm basing this on next to no info mind you, but I think regardless of its content a lot of gaffers would be mad if come Wednesday we get a 90 minute roundtable on what appears to be a level maker.
