Mario Maker Rumor Discussion Thread

Noticed what appears to be an ad in the background of this pic. Hard to make out what it is, but I think Mario seems fairly clear. Possibly Donkey Kong and the Brain Age guy as well (or at least some sort of face), but those are more guesses since it's so damn blurry.

I see Zangief's head on the left and Iwata in a red leather jacket on the right

ehhhhh....

why are you so sure this seems like a cheap eshop game

Yeah, this sounds like more NES Remix stuff if real

Ah, I love this kind of threads. It sure gets you in the mood for what's to come at E3. This right here is one of the best parts of it, that's for sure.

As for Mario Maker itself, I'm not sure how to react. For one, it seems like a cool idea, but just that; I don't see how it can, by itself, be something that makes me want to purchase it. Something about the poster seems odd to me as well, but I don't know what exactly.

A Nintendo leak? This is a first

I betting its real btw... why someone would fake this game? Its not like some huge shit, is just some quirky Nintendo shit.

They get an E3 leak just about every year, actually.
2009-NSMBWii
2010-Goldeneye
2011-Project Cafe, general Wii U info.
2012-Gamepad revisions and NFC.
2013-Most the contents of the Pokemon X and Y details we got.

Yep, I don't know what the thing on the left is but I definitely see Iwata's head, possibly a Mii on the right. Maybe it's indicative of Miis in Smash? Although I can't exactly tell if it's close enough to the Smash set up to even be a part of that game's display or not.

What is the thing on the ground to the left of the guy in the background? Cause, what I'm seeing what with my tired eyes and mind is really kinda creeping me out.

Looks like the severed upper torso+head of WW Ganondorf to me. I'm also tired and losing it too it seems, haha.

Yeah...I was gonna say that looks like a torso with no arms or lower half with a really big head and sunken-in eyes. O_O I need some sleep.

Add DKCR for 2010. It was leaked a day or so before their presentation.

I know the length of this reveal won't effect the overall time spent on other things, it's just that Nintendo has a history of spending too much time on specific things that I myself find incredibly uninteresting. I'd rather a briskly paced E3 event if it meant I avoided a long explanation of something I find super boring. The F2P aspects people are now mentioning are even making me less interested.

Am I supposed to be expecting entirely different or am I not supposed to guess what it is? It's a game called Mario Maker, has a hand adding something with a stylus, and features retro graphics (like rom hacks). Combined with the fact NES remix 1/2 were moderate successes, it makes it a pretty obvious assumption as to what it is.

Is Mario Maker a standalone game? How big is it? Which genre/s (Mario tends to do alot)? Will it be retail? Which plattform/s? Will it incorporate NFC, and if so, to what an extent? Is part of a ongoing series? What about multiplayer?

You seem to be so utterly convinced, enlighten us.

Certainly seems plausible but I lack any faith in Nintendo's competency at this point. My big thing will be to see how "online" this is. It wouldn't surprise me at ALL if this is a full-featured Mario editor that you can share with all your friends locally!

If this has legitimate, straight-forward online functionality with no dumb jank I'll be very impressed.

*Imagining making a Mario level while using a Link nfc to use Zelda 2 Link in game.*

Trying to warm up to the idea. Could be like that Super Mario Crossover game. Convincing photo, nonetheless.

Ever since the Wii U announcement I thought Nintendo should do a LBP style Mario game. No need to have a complex editor, dumb it down with pre made blocks and contraptions and a grid so you can see the jump height and width. Perfect for kids to play around and thanks to the touchscreen it should be fairly easy.

I originally presumed 3DS game but looking at the demo stations I'm guessing it might be Wii U. The black square would be where the monitor will be placed and the blue design tends to be the colors they use for Wii U. If it was 3DS, I'm guessing those stands would be red.

I'm guessing eShop. It looks to only have one or two demo booths. I'm interested by the concept either way.

Why are you so aggressive? I said the concept is uninteresting to me and that I hope it doesn't get a long explanation when it gets revealed. I didn't say I knew details or anything, I just used common sense to guess what it is. What I think it is, is a rom hack maker with online features for sharing. I find stuff like that boring.

No need to get angry at me for no reason, especially over a game that may or may not be real.

Eh, could be a cool eshop title. I doubt that it's their presentation game, though.

Man, I hope this is the only leak we get. If I have to learn about Zelda through a grainy photo instead of an epic trailer, I'll be sooooo sad. Unless I just don't go on the internet for 4 days lol.

Mario Maker sounds like a cool idea but until we know more, it sounds like it should have just been a mode in NSMB2 instead of an all new game. I hope it's real and amazing, but I haven't really been impressed by a 2d Mario game in a long time.

If this is a leak, I don't think its accidental.
When has Nintendo ever intentionally leaked anything and more to the point why would they do so in this case? Nintendo loves having surprises, they have nothing to gain by intentionally leaking this.

If I were to guess who would be developing it, I guess it would either be EAD 4 or NST. Both have been free for about a year now and have experience with Mario. Didn't NSMBU have a coin editor or something?

Good point. If this was Nintendo's bomb as some are clamming then they would have more display space for it.

EDIT:
Also I don't see why people think its a 3DS game when Nintendo did say they want a Mario utilizing the Gamepad and that set up looks to be a Wii U one.

If its that head looing object in the upper right its not Dr. Kawashima (Brain Age) since the hair is different.

I'm confused, not angry. You seem to be completely convinced and bored regarding a game you never saw... it is an achievement.

You basically took it to a whole new level.

At the very least I could see them allowing you to use QR codes like Pushmo with this style of game.

The first credible E3 rumor always gets me excited for the event, makes it feel really close.

This seems awesome, hope it's true.

I'm just speculating on the game, much like most of the people in this thread. All signs point to it being some level maker + sharing game. I just find the idea of making levels and sharing them to be boring. I didn't like it in Little Big Planet and I didn't like it in Modnation racers (or the multiple other games that have the concept). I just don't know why you felt the need to be passive aggressive and demand I "enlighten" you by detailing the game (one which may or may not even exist). I'm just speculating in a rumor discussion thread.

Also that SPM screenshot is totally irrelevant. I didn't criticize the game , let alone to a "whole new level". I said I find games like that boring and uninteresting so I hope they don't spent too much time on it. If there were a new racing game coming out, and I didn't like racing games I'd say something similar.

This could be neat with NFC. Buy a Samus figure and make your own 2D Metroid, buy Link and you can open up tile sets so you can make your own side-scrolling Zelda 2, something like that. But, we'll see if this is even real or not -- and if it is, how far they're actually going with it.

If this is true, a challenge/gamble system could make this into a bigger deal than the idea of a Mario Level Editor on its own would seem to be.

I'll touch on my idea briefly. What if players could challenge each other online with their levels, placing bets with coins that are required to make levels more complex/challenging?

Player 1 and Player 2 are engaged in a challenge. They have swapped their most difficult levels, and a 5 second countdown is now in motion to kick off what will feel quite a bit like a race (old school 2D Sonic multi). Here's where the Gamepad gets put to some good use. Not only does the Gamepad serve as a surveillance camera that feeds you your opponent's gameplay live, but a custom level can consist of many objects that can be manipulated through touch. So although players would be focused on the obstacles they are faced with at the tv, they'd also find it important to look at the Gamepad in hopes of triggering traps.

>coins gambled
>the wealthier players can afford to build more complex levels and raise the stakes on challenges
>this is how players move up on the leaderboard with the game becoming more and more difficult
>full replays can be saved and uploaded (just copy USFIV)

Now I'm excited!
