Mario Maker Rumor Discussion Thread

I think I found possible evidence to call it a fake. Has Nintendo EVER re-used hands in thier promo arts or renders? Because...

Did some cut-outs and over-layed it. Not only does it look identical, but the hand seems to be the EXACT size of the one on this google image-found image I found by searching "nintendo land balloon trip breeze"

huelen10 is on the case

1. That is a doctored screen.
2. Here is a real framegrab which you can get from my "pak" a few pages back. Let's zoom in 2000%...

You can download the pak, or look at the trailer in Sega's FTP for the proof. Also, a quick reminder, I did not get these grabs for this or the smile, I am just still trying to find proof for the model/sprite thing. People from various places are still curious about this, and I want to help, that's it.

Edit: Seriously guys, grow up. I don't remember Graphics Horse getting this shit when he did the things a graphics horse does. I know it's not the same, but even so man, even so.

Oh fuck.

A game where you can create Mario levels? Sign me up! Wanted this since forever. As long as you can share them online, which considering nintendo's track record with level editors, you will, then this will be awesome.

Too bad its the first Mario. Would be cool with all the features NSMB games have to offer, but they likely want to make more NSMB so this makes more since. (Just hope they do one for SMB2,3, and World!)

So ready for this.

I find it very suspicious that the demo station in the foreground cuts off the hand at the same place the hand ends in the original picture.

Awesome detective work! The reuse of the hand is very interesting.

Some thoughts:

-This feels real to me
-It's likely to be a full-featured, retail game
-Judging the graphics and scope of the game by one piece of artwork is a mistake. Nintendo frequently uses retro Mario graphics to represent the franchise.
-Thus, I would expect more than just 8-bit Mario. All sorts of different tile sets/characters/music etc from the various ages of Mario. Would not rule out 3D Mario completely, or at least the character model.
-This will be Nintendo's big DLC/NFC game. Someone mentioned wanting a Nintendo Maker...well, I have a feeling that's coming, just as additional content to this.
-I suspect this has been in the works for quite a while, as evidenced by the quotes from Miyamoto and Reggie about LBP, and Mario Paint.
-I would go so far as to say this game may be one reason why the Wii U is what it is. Nintendo tends to develop hardware with specific software in mind, but we haven't seen that with Wii U to this point.

Of course, it may not even be real. Just some thoughts and speculation before E3, and isn't that what makes it fun?

Edit: lol Huelen for the win. Pretty good fake though. Or someone in Nintendo PR is lazy.

Yep, but it's still of the same "kind" of thing going on. Nevertheless, should this be real (and I hope it is, don't want to be a killer of dreams), the stylus gives it away that it is indeed a Wii U game. They have never confused styli for systems when promoting games in any press material that I've ever seen.

If it is fake then the question arises, what the hell is on that wall?

Still looking legit to me. They reuse that hand for all the Wii U stock art, dont they?
(and reasonably speaking, the Wii U stylus is longer than 3DS stylus, right? that looks like a wii u stylus, so it should be a wii u game then)

the one thing that seems weird is that i *think* nintendo moved to using lights to display artwork this big ever since 2009's stuff was leaked via photoshop.

Of note as well is that there has been a "Action" Mario title every year for the past 5 years:

2009: NSMBW
2010: SMG2
2011: SM3DL
2012: NSMB2, NSMBU
2013: NSLU, SM3DW

This seems like a perfect way to continue the trend while also adhering to Iwata's supposed promise of there being only one "New" title per system. That alone tells me it's real.

But about the game itself? If it isn't realized to it's fullest potential (Tilesets based off of all the 2D titles, Assets from Yoshi/Wario/DK, ability to mix and match mechanics, ability to create assets/events/actors) then it's going to be shit. People have been tinkering with the 2D series for ages now, albeit illegally. There have been amazing creations made with this stuff (You've seen that video where a level is automatically played to that one NicoNico Tribute piece, right?), so the big N is going to have to play hardball if they want people interested.

They did for most things.
Projections. And even the things that didn't use lights weren't put up nearly this early.

I... think you're overhyping this.

So if it is a fake then what is up with the polygon journalist tweet? Is he just making shit up?

yeah. unless they went back to making prints after four years of not doing that, i think it's a pretty big mark against this picture.

Also the fact that the booth is open in any way, when in years past it hasn't been.
And that the ceiling is lower than normal.

These 2 e3 shots are more proof that this is fake

SPECIALY lack of Nintendo writtings anywhere, color of the floor and size of the ceiling

Would be awesome if true

Gut feeling, it's probably real, probably an eshop game, probably came out of an experiment for what to do with the Gamepad and they came to this and decided to release it.

so, uh... i guess it's not without precedent to reuse this hand

though it's the entire gamepad itself that's reused with just the screen changed
Well, they do usually keep all their assets as layered renders so they can use things how they need them.

One thing's for pretty much certain though: Should it be real, this is a Wii U title.

If this isn't real, E3 won't be as exciting for me.

The ceiling has the same square boxes at the top, and the floor gets eventually covered iirc (it doesn't stay cracked cement).

And the big Nintendo writing is on the outside of the booth usually, while the games would be on the inside.

Doesn't eliminate the possibility that it could ALSO be for 3DS' though.

Would be really surprised if this were fake. Seems exactly like something Nintendo would put out right about now. And since others have shown that they have indeed reused that hand multiple times, that's a non-issue. If anything, it makes it more believable; a fake would go to the trouble of not reusing a hand from nintendo's official shots.

I guess people can stop worrying about this getting a 90 minute roundtable because its either a Wii U title or fake.

The art looks weird man, all those floor tiles and that lacking title make it look so non-Nintendo. Nintendo usually rocks promotional art. It just looks like a Game Maker 6 fan game. Hopefully I'm wrong, though.

Really? The floor in the Mario Maker pic looks like a gray/white tarp. You can see there are tarps on the floor in the back of the second pic. The ceiling in the Mario Maker pic also looks a lot like the ceiling in the first pic. At least to me.

The top one is probably a different hall
The bottom one does lend credence unless they set up the Nintendo Booth in a day

The ceiling of the first pic matches what's in the "leak", and these are 1-3 days old, so they could've been set up by now (I'm honestly doubting that they'd be able to get demo units and posters already up so soon, but who knows)
