Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

The single most satisfying metagame or gameplay loop of a third person game is found in a RPG called Mass Effect 2 wich is the Vaguard charge + Melee + Shotgun rinse and repeat all the encounters, in ME3 is gets even more interesting with that Nova stuff or whatever the name was, can't remember since I didn't played for long that one but ME2 yes that one I probably was close to 100% it.

That is more fun to whatever the pure so called TPS offers like Gears games, the overrated to hell garbage game called Vanquish etc.

That I found it in a "RPG" is the controversial thing for me lols.

Pretty much, but Indie games and some great studios like Valve/NaughtyDog make me believe.

Yeah, there are great Western Studios. Sadly, most Western games just lacked the fun and being less too serious stuff that they once had. I even enjoyed the Crash Bandicoot days of ND more than their recent outputs (including TLOU
raises ultimate flame shield!
). Probably I'm just not so in-love with chasing realism in games, which is why most Japanese games are my escape to reality.

People complaining about the lack of games for the PS4 and Xbox One have bad taste, have amnesia or are 10 years old. Console transitions have always been like this and always will. There has always, from every single leap from one generation to the next, a year time frame where it seems that few games are released. People forget that the games they are eagerly awaiting are still in development. It simply takes time. It's not like they've had finalized tool sets and dev kits for five years. They aren't going to makes games on old platforms either. Most of you hate the idea of last/ cross gen titles anyway. So just be patient. Hell, no one told you to buy your PS4 or Xbox One day one. You made that decision knowing damn well what was available and what wasn't. By this Fall and beyond there will be plenty of games to play.

Stop making so much sense.

The only thing good about Mass Effect 3 is Javik (no controversy here), the Citadel DLC (again, most people agree) and the Extended Cut synthesis ending (yep), everything else was between decent and terrible.

Is that even controversial :^)

Well, if we base this on general acceptance of the games on the larger markets like US then yeah for me it's controversial. There have been a lot of articles/blogs before about why Japanese games tend to be less received sales-wise especially last gen, where FPS, 3rd person shooters and open-world sandbox games were the hottest genre.

On GAF, where many enthusiasts are excited for the next Persona/Tales games, then it probably is not. :p

Actually, that's the common opinion.
That being said:
I prefer Brawl over Melee

Same here. I have 0 interest in the competitive part of Smash, I just want more characters and more stages. Brawl gave me that, so I was more than fine with it.

Linear games>>>>open world sandbox games

Not a controversial opinion at all. Most open world games are all filler, fetch side quests and boring areas to make the map feel bigger.

Fallout 3, New Vegas, Elder scrolls, Skyrim and Saints row 3, are the only ones I've enjoyed enough to get all achievements or most of the trophies.

Dunno if this is controversial.

Korea makes some really good games, some that could easily top if not be better than the western and japanese output but are so plagued by f2p bullcrap it ends up hurting those game massively.

Zelda II is the best Zelda ever!

Zelda2_Screen1.jpg

Halo 4 had the franchise's 2nd best multiplayer, apart from 3.
Reach was sheer and utter garbage!
ME3's original ending was brilliant!
Aside from level design, DA2 was one of the best games made; brilliant writing!
Skyrim is a broken and under baked piece of trash, nothing remotely good about that game, except for the music.
And TERA:Online targets pedophiles with their playable "Elin" race option.

Hate steam/valve and think they are overrated. Anybody content with letting a company have a monopoly is a bigger fool.

I agree that linear >>>>> open world sandbox 9 out of 10 times.

Gta are vastly overrated games except Chinatown.

EA is not the worst gaming company they are simply on par with others except for the BF4.

Elder scrolls games are just terrible open world games. They make a good exploration and picture taking world but as a game they suck. The combat, characters, story, quest and character models are subpar. The only good thing are the mods, so effectively you buy a game to fix your self and you cant fix the combat.

The only nnumber I care about is 1080 as long as it is 30 and consistent.

The best rpg combat is dragon's dogma. DD more polish be the best thing in a long time.

I think a lot of gamers especially mmorpg suffer from a terrible case of nostalgia.

The witcher 1 >>> 2 except graphics.

Japanese development Sting are great.

Nomura (kingdom hearts and ffxv) games are great. Like his art designs.

All old ffx games are overrated. Ffx is the best and ffx money grab.

Casual/hard core there is no reason to draw walls around yourself.

I hate the term gamer and it serves no purpose other than draw attention. I am a guy who happens to likes games.

I didn't care about TLOU that much, it's a good game but it wasn't a mindblowing experience for me, Uncharted 2 is still my favorite PS3 ND game.

I really dislike realistic looking graphics in games and I prefer those that are focused more on art style than realism since they tend to age better as time passes at least for visual standards.

Same here. I have 0 interest in the competitive part of Smash, I just want more characters and more stages. Brawl gave me that, so I was more than fine with it.
I'm a competitive player and to me Brawl > 64 > Melee, and I think the Brawl hate from the Melee-only people is childish and cringe-worthy.

what's so brilliant about different colors and the fact that your choices made in the trilogy didn't matter at all?
Your choices did matter in the form of war assets. I loved the endings because even though they were very similar the way they played out, each choice points the galaxy in an entirely new direction. Furthermore the final three choices have alot to do with the themes that resonate throughout all three games. Themes about fatalism, recurring cycles, relationship between man and machine, father and son, creator created. All those are there to certain levels, and despite how much of a badass your character becomes by the end of the trilogy you still can't make things exactly the way you want them, which plays into the themes above.

At anyrate that is why I liked it, but I can see how one would be disappointed expecting the last 3rd of the game to branch out entirely based off your decisions.

Glad to see other people who think like me. What about the Extended Cut ? I think it made it a lot better.

you'd be surprised, seen games like uncharted and the order called movie/ on-rails etc etc.

Japanese games >>>>>>>>> Western games.

Or conversely:

Western Games >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Japanese games.

I honestly don't think I've ever played a Japanese game I have enjoyed :3 That's not to say they are bad, just that they are not my cup of tea.

I think the 2008 Prince of Persia is the best one in the series and I was really sad they didn't continue the storyline.

I don't care for Super Mario Galaxy.

Loved every mainline Super Mario game since the first one for NES. Super Mario 64 is one of my favorite games of all time. But I just didn't like the gameplay of Galaxy. The level design felt so disjointed--it completely ruined the game for me.

I thought EC was unnecessary. People wanted EC because they felt their was no resolution for their favorite characters. What many didn't/don't understand is that the majority of ME3 was spent saying goodbye and resolving the issues pertaining to your squadmates, bringing about that resolution. As for the ending, most the main issues like the Genophage were resolved at that point and numerous other questions about varying stories and characters were alluded too; hinting at a resolution, but their ultimate fate being decided by your choices during the final few mins.

You might ask "What happened to Commander Bailey when Harbinger and his pals attacked the Citadel?" I forget where but either in the codex or side conversation it is mentioned that the Citadel has numerous "safe houses" of sorts where people can go to incase of trouble. Implying that it is very possible for Bailey, a man with knowledge of the Citidel considering he worked for C-Sec, to have known and gone to one of these "safe houses". So unless the Citadel exploded when you chose "destroy" there is a decent chance he is alive.

Things like the above don't need to be explained in a slide show or narration in some forced epilogue. Bailey had his own resolution though ambiguity, leaving it up the the player to decide
weather or not he survived.

Hope my rambling makes sense. :)

You fucking baka gaijin, western """macho"" men have nothing on the superior kawaii culture

No seriously though, Japan produces so much shit it's incredible. I'd say some JRPGs >>> Western games (or anything, really), cause I really really like the stupidly extravagant and melodramatic stories Final Fantasies, Kingdom Hearts and such game series have.

But I'd never ever say Japanese games >> western games

e: especially the cutesy stuff is so disgustingly annoying, but i doubt that's a controversial opinion

Loved sonic hero's (dont understand the hate)
Loved Sonic unleshed, colors, and generations.
Loved Skyward sword (playing without the motion controls in zelda feels weird now)
Super Mario Sunshine was a decent game
Sonic adventure 2 is not the best of sonic games, but i liked the music.

just a few

Skyward Sword >>> Majora's Mask >>> Ocarina
Like it that they gave some life to the characters for once and gave them a real beginning, like the motion controls and how responsive they were(no I'm not joking), liked the overworld(underworld? since it's under the clouds) more than any other Zelda game.

Jrpgs blow away wrpgs. It's fine for characters to have emotion to them or internal/external drama, not everyone has to be an emotionless husk military man or about choices.

Yep, makes perfect sense. I just felt that the synthesis ending needed an extra scene (which was provided by the Extended Cut) to actually see what happened when people and machine became one.

AAA Games are a dieing industry. Crazy high budgets, no room for error and more and more by numbers games with no heart. Longterm I see AAA in its current format dispearing and PC and Nintendo being the only platforms left because that is where the creative and good games with a soul seem to come from anymore.

  • The Fallout and Elder Scrolls games are horribly overrated
  • Final Fantasy XIII was actually pretty good
  • The Dark Souls games are overrated

Majora's Mask is the best Zelda, and Wind Waker is bad, but not the worst. Phantom Hourglass is.

Also I love SM Sunshine's graphics, but absolutely hate its gameplay.

I try to keep an open mind and like video games no matter where they're from. There are many Western games that I enjoy and I'm very happy about that. But sadly, I find it a lot harder to find Western games that I like and enjoy.

The gameplay is fine. But the aesthetics often really isn't enjoyable for me.

As long as a game is cute or cutesy I like it. Well, gameplay is important, too. But cute aesthetics do a lot to make me like a game. I don't care where a game is from, as long as it's cute and fun. But unfortunately developers from the United States don't seem to make cute games as much as Japan.

South Korea does, though, and that really makes me happy.

e: especially the cutesy stuff is so disgustingly annoying, but i doubt that's a controversial opinion
It is. Or it should be. :<

Cutesy things are my favourite thing in life. And you find that disgusting.

I don't care what nationality something is from because I think that people of every nationality can make wonderful things. But cuteness is my greatest joy in life.

WRPG and JRPGs are stupid as hell terms and I hate the fact they exist. Do we freaking call Devil May Cry a Japanese Action Game and God of War a Western Action Game?

People who bring up 'cutesy, moe, loli blah blah blah' in JRPGs are typically the most ignorant of genre and fail to recongize WRPGs just as numerous faults.

People who overly worry about how a game looks rather than how it plays are the people killing video games nowadays and are the reason games look so nice but have the most shallow gameplay.

People who talk about "It breaks my immersion." sound dumb as all hell to me.

I view the competitive Smash community with contempt because their itemless, stage banning, small character pool sucks half of life out of what makes Smash well Smash bros. The fact they then have the nerve to sit up and call themselves experts and champs is laughable to me. It'd be like a team calling themselves the best at CoD, but only with certain weapons, perks and killstreaks removed from the game. A video of a 'casual' Smash fight will certainly get more people to buy and or be interested in the game than watching Fox and Falco edge guard each other in Melee on Final Destination for 5 minutes.

I love Watch_Dogs.

ALSO,

Borderlands has a bazillion weapons, but they all feel like weightless nothing guns, and I could never understand what they meant when people were telling me how funny the game was, it didn't have anything that made me laugh or even chuckle slightly.

Disgustingly annoying, not disgusting, probably worded it pretty weirdly.

I don't hate cute stuff, I love kids for example but I just hate... Most of 'Japan's cute', I guess. The high pitched voices and the stupid mannerisms and so on. I loved it when that certain someone realized that certain other was her father in Steins;Gate, it was just so goddamn adorable I couldn't contain myself, but I hate all the kitten maid stuff in the same show. Just makes me cringe.
